One thing no one ever mentions is that USB-C cables (just like their Lightning cousins) don't last forever. I'm always buying replacement Lighting cables as they fail, sometimes because they're frayed, others because my twin boys enjoying sucking on them. They don't contribute towards 'e-waste' - I bin them when they're buggered and replace them. I for one never rue the arrival of a new device complete with a charging cable as it's always going to get used eventually. I think this is a bad move by Apple but one I fear we're going to see more of in the future...

The new Apple TV 4K introduced today ships without a charging cable for the Siri Remote, forcing customers who need one to purchase one separately. Previous models of the Apple TV included a Lightning cable in the box for charging the remote.

The new version of the Siri Remote announced today is equipped with a USB-C port for charging instead of Lightning, but there is no USB-C cable included in the box with the new Apple TV 4K. Apple also no longer includes a charging cable with the Siri Remote when purchased separately for $59 through its online store.

Apple today began selling a one-meter USB-C cable with a woven design for $19.

Apple stopped including a charger with the iPhone 12 and newer and touted the environmental benefits of the decision. However, iPhones still ship with a Lightning to USB-C cable so that the device can at least be charged with a Mac or other device, whereas the Siri Remote now ships without any included charging accessory.

The new Apple TV 4K is available to order beginning today and launches Friday, November 4 in the U.S. and more than 30 other countries. Key new features include the A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ support, a lower $129 starting price, up to 128GB of storage, a thinner and lighter design without a fan, and the updated Siri Remote.

I like Apple but honestly this is ridiculous.
I understand that they wanna be as environmentally friendly as possible but what about people who don’t have any USB-C cables? These guys have all my purchase records from years back. They should atleast look at people’s purchase record and figure out if that person already has a USB-C device (that once came with a cable).. if not, cable should be included FREE OF COST !

Like many others, entirely missing the point. It’s not about, cost it’s about waste.

I'll restate what I said before. I'm curious how many customers will be unaware that this ATV model doesn't have a cable to charge the remote.

I have a Samsung remote that has a USB-C port as well as a solar panel for charging. I only charged it by wire, when it was new.

This is the kind of attitude I’m sick of on this site. Making stupid excuses for bad behaviour in the most thoughtless way.
The other way around is also true. Seeing people complain so badly on a 5$ cable not being included in a product that is now 50$ cheaper with twice the storage is laughable at best.

Personally, all these included charging cables (Lightning and USB-C) I collected over the years are still sleeping in their original boxes to this day. USB-C is meant to be the one cable to rule them all in tech, so people will probably get one anyway if they still don’t have one yet, and they can use it to charge more and more devices

I don’t hesitate to call Apple stupid when it does stupid moves (like keeping iPad 10th gen with support for gen1 Apple Pencil + adaptor, which is a very stupid decision in my opinion). The included cable removal is not as bad for me. We may disagree, and this is why this very forum exists. You point of view is not more or less legit than mine or other ones.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but a lot of the charging cables provided by Apple were not great anyway. You can get like a 3 set from Amazon for a decent price and they last a while. Even when Apple was giving the charging cables, that was something I did occasionally. I do think the whole lose the charging cable for the environment is ******** though.

Apple gonna say that people has USB-C cables at home, as Apple started selling USB C notebooks since 2016 and most of the Non-Apple profucts people have at home are USB-C.
Soon Apple gonna be like Ikea. Assemble it yourself!

Out of all the outraged comments, I am curious to know who actually doesn’t own at least one USB C cable…
And for these people, might be a good investment. Future proof. Better than shipping with lightning still…

You know what is sitting in a drawer of mine and will likely go to a landfill/recycling unused? The MagSafe cable that was delivered with my MBA M2.
I don’t need a proprietary single-device cable in my backpack. I have usb c for iPad and the Mac, headphones, other stuff…
Also, MagSafe was nice when our device lasted one hour on battery and we had to be plugged most of the time. I don’t need to charge as much these days.

If you're buying an Apple TV and don't have a USB C cable in your house already, you likely have no business buying an Apple TV.

What's really hilarious is that all of the people who have for the last 3 years been crying/complaining at Apple to make their iPhones/iPads USB-C, because everything else that they own connects via USB-C, miraculously don't have a single USB-C cable in their house.

Astonishing!

While I didn't care (or complain) about iPhones and USB-C, for the life of me I cannot find the one USB-C cable I had. lol

Everybody realizes that the two new models of apple tv are cheaper now right? $129 and $149 vs the old at $179 and $199… IF you need the plug or cable, you can buy what you want with the $50… or save it if you don’t… thanks apple!

Class action 3,2,1…

First they break out the “Wi-Fi only” from “Wi-Fi plus Ethernet” model, now this??

This is a bad couple days for optics.

The first trillion dollar company: nickel and dime-ing people over nonsense.
