I can understand no AC adapters, but not even the cable REQUIRED to charge the thing...?
Don't worry, soon there won't be a product in the box. It'll just be the legalese booklets and the sticker.

"The all new virtual remote for the Apple TV, the packaging now reduced to a slim envelope with a QR code to link to App store download for the iPhone remote app. Environmental achievement of the decade".

I’m a huge Apple fan, but today has been frustrating for sure.

New iPad only works with a lightning pencil but the iPad is USB-C. Granted the pencil comes with the adapter but still, rather frustrating.

Now they change the Siri Remote to USB-C, which is great, but won’t even include a cable? Really?? It’s not like they can say “oh you have tons of those laying around” when this is their first switch from lightning to USB-C.

This is the same thing they pulled with he iPhone and said “oh you have a ton of those AC chargers at home” knowing full well they are USB-A and you just changed to USB-C to lightning for the iPhone.

At this rate, iPhone 15 will launch with USB-C next year and no charge cable.

EU forces them to switch to USB-C from lightning? Don’t worry, they’ll just not include a charger at all and make up that lost mFi revenue they got off lightning.

Very frustrating launch of USB-C for Apple. Change it across the board and include the cable for at least a year. Don’t half ass the change (iPads but not iPhones, some iPads and not all, Siri Remote but don’t include cable, iPad is USB-C but the only way to charge its most used and sold accessory is via a dongle). Just a complete mess.

I love Apple and their products and it is fully expected that we pay an “Apple Tax” to get a better experience, better quality and things that “just work”. This is the opposite of this. It’s a worse experience for the end user and stuff doesn’t “just work” when adaptors are needed.

And the argument “if this is what is stopping you from buying the Apple TV…yadda yadda yadda” doesn’t hold water. It’s not stopping anyone, most likely, but it is nickle and diming your customer base when it is very clearly not necessary. This is a poor look for Apple any way you slice it and as much as I love them and their products, I am glad that even on an Apple rumors/fan site - they are getting dragged for this.

What's really hilarious is that all of the people who have for the last 3 years been crying/complaining at Apple to make their iPhones/iPads USB-C, because everything else that they own connects via USB-C, miraculously don't have a single USB-C cable in their house.

Astonishing!
People need something to complain about to give them meaning, especially if their lives are boring and without struggle. Believe me, if they had anything actually important to fight through (oppression, poverty, illness, heartbreak, family drama, whatever) they would not be so pressed about a piece of plastic and copper in abundance!

The good news is you can pick up two USB-C cables on Amazon for $7. That'll give you a spare next time disaster strikes. :)
I'm thinking of one of the multi-port kind, as I still have some devices with Micro-USB.

I have a boring, no-struggle life because I think Apple should include a cable? You sure paint with a broad brush.

Well said and so true!

I'd also add complaining on a public forum gives people a little burst of feel-good power, something that's otherwise lacking in their life.

Sadly, that burst of feel-good power dissipates quickly, and needs to be replenished daily.

As I’ve said a million times if it’s not about cost then it should be a free add on while ordering any Apple device. You want a phone charger free you want a cable free. That solves the problem. It’s not about cost right?!
The people defending Apple for the "environment" BS never have a reply to this, it kills their entire argument.

I have a ton of USB-C cables so no biggie for me if I purchase one. But for those users who don't have a USB-c cable, this is almost criminal. Selling a product with no ability (out of the box) for the user of said product to recharge the product.

The type of people putting environment in inverted commas, never fully understand the concept being put across though.

Apple may well be saving cash. And they probably could include some kind of free offer - though it would somewhat negate the point due to people just getting it anyway cos ‘free stuff’.

Regardless- not including an abundant cable that many people own and if they don’t, will cost a few quid v’s including something that isn’t necessary for everyone shouldn’t be such rocket science for folks.

Apple is really starting to be anything but customer friendly. Is this bubble gonna bust? It certainly has a major crack in my case
Europe certainly isn’t showing iPhones 14 and Watch 8 much love after the price hike.

And no, it doesn’t matter if it’s justified by inflation or not.

Our salaries haven’t gone up to match Apple’s price increases and essentially no other tech brand has hiked its EU price because of the weak Euro.

I’m struggling to see what I’d gain by upgrading.
I know people have trouble with this concept, but you don't need to upgrade every time Apple releases a new product. This release was about bringing the manufacturing cost (and therefore selling price) down more than anything. Unless you really need HDR10+ (Samsung TV owners?) there is really no reason to upgrade from a 2nd gen ATV 4K.
