Nintendo doesnt rely on their awesome hardware. They rely on their first party exclusives.

No matter how powerful Apple makes their Apple TV, its still an uphill battle. Apple would need to buy big name studios and IPs to compete with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. And even if they do, its not an easy task.

I hope they dont even try. It would make the Apple TV more expensive and less competetive in the space where it should be.

And what is interesting ... will Apple finally after years of ignoring the problem of ATV4K inability to playback 24.000 content without stuttering (which are the numerous releases of European cinema masterpieces and more and more items on Netflix and iTunes) will acknowledge this fact and FIX IT. After thousands of complaints. Any cheap Android box can do that, but Apple for some magic reason DOESN'T WANT TO, ignoring not the frequency, but the demands of hundreds of thousands loyal users. It's a SHAME, Apple.

While I want them to fix 24.000 as much as anyone, trust me, I bought a 2019 Shield TV Pro primarily for Netflix because the problem annoyed me so much, I think you're wildly inflating the number to think "hundreds of thousands" of loyal users have demanded it be fixed, let alone even know it's an issue.

Well... Not intending to argue about exact figures, but what amount of users should produce 700,000,000 population of Europe and why on the Earth they should be happy with stuttering movies as huge part of all European movies are mastered in 24.000 (and most of the best ones)?

I didn’t say the issue didn’t affect the number you said, I said that number haven’t “demanded it be fixed”, and truthfully, probably haven’t even noticed it being an issue. Hell, the vast majority of Apple TV users were fine with the much worse issue of judder induced by 3:2 pull down of 24p content displayed at 60p for many many years, and still are. The average consumer just doesn’t really notice these kinds of issues, we’re not the average consumer.

OK, you might be partly, PARTLY:) right, a lot of people never saw plasma's blinking, and even 50 HZ old tv... But I still want my 24.000 :)!

No hardware to be announced tomorrow so the wait continues for a new model.

Apple really should have jumped on a new model when they launched Apple TV+ and now this pandemic with everyone home more than usual.

It's likely to happen any minute now. I've been waiting for a new Apple TV for a while, but I bit the bullet on a Roku Ultra 4k earlier today.. Go ahead Tim Apple, make me shake my fist!

Heck, I finally got fed up with Roku. It's just not fast enough for me. YouTube TV in particular is reason enough to get Apple TV 4K. Roku takes 5-6 seconds to load channels, even on blazing fast Internet connection. Apple TV 4K loads the channels almost instantly. Very noticeable difference in the user experience.

Major negative for Apple TV is the horrible remote. But I managed to pair my Roku remote with Apple TV box and it works very well. The Roku remote was already setup to control the volume on my HDTV and it's still able to control the TV volume even after pairing Roku remote to Apple TV box.

Grumble. I've got a new 4K TV and a 1080p AppleTV but no way am I buying last-gen hardware when a new box is forthcoming.

Same.

I got mine when ATV3 was discontinued. I love the voice search and app availability. I was so tired of punching in all the letters to perform a search.
I’ve still got an Apple TV 3 in my dining room and my Apple TV 4 is in my living room. To be honest I don’t really see a point in upgrading to the 4K model or the new one. The HD one runs fine and I don’t have. 4K TV just 1080p ones. The games I run on there have no issues. After the keynote I didn’t really do anything new in TVOS that would make me worry if the HD didn’t get updated.

Yea, that dork Jon Prosser claimed the refresh was just around the corner but what does he know? Im considering biting the bullet and just get the 4K. Its a good box
I think they are ready to go.
If Apple’s stock didn’t rebound couple weeks ago, products would have been flying out of the vault. Would rather on 3rd quarter numbers if need. Sure Apple feels no need right now.

A bit frustrating that the new box isn’t released. Seems a no brainer for Apple.

Supply lines have been restricted due to countries the world over shutting down. Most likely the reason apple had no hardware to display this WWDC.

Now I feel like folks posting in the iPhone thread wondering if they should wait for an iPhone 12 or buy an SE now.

I have a 4th gen that we use heavily. Buying a 4K just doesn’t seem worth it in terms of an improved experience. My TV is a Sony 4K but it doesn’t have HDR. Looks pretty damn good as is. I’ll keep waiting for the new box.

DV and HDR have a bigger impact on picture IMHO. Good idea to wait.

Two reasons:
1. Thinking late summer or Late Fall we’ll get an update!
2. The change to new broadcast support video transmission change is not yet finished in USA to support 4K transmissions is future of 2022!

Well I'm in the boat of wanting to standardize our TVs on the same platform. We have an Apple TV 4K on our living room TV, but in the bedroom running Android TV and in my office running Roku, and soon will be adding a TV on our new screened in porch. I don't actually mind the different platforms but it drives my wife crazy. So I could potentially be buying 3 of them and not wanting to buy old tech.

Apple does have them ready. They are just waiting for them to become outdated before they can put them on the market
