So, wireless headphones aren't new. Ear buds aren't new either but doing them right is a work in progress. With current bluetooth and battery technology, I can't imagine anything Apple offers goes beyond what is already available. Unless Apple has something new to offer in this area -- I have an open mind here -- I'm not understanding this one. Beats this or that is just one more to the growing mix. What am I missing here?

Apple, this marketing move will NOT make me buy a pair of Beats headphones because they are crap. It will however pretty much ensure my next phone will be an android phone, which will work very well with my Shure headphones.

After trying a cheap pair of wireless headphones I can say with confidence that I am totally ready to cut the cord.

Just need ease of use, ease of charging and a decent sound!

I feel the same way. I've had too many instances of wired headphones getting caught on things, too, and since I usually have my phone in my hand it's almost gone flying!

I know they're not expected to announce new Macs next week - but seriously if they do an announcement for Beats headphones, and nothing to do with Macs, I swear this place is going to go into some kind of meltdown.

By now people should be well aware that there will be no Macs at this event and likely it will be at some point in October. Expecting anything else is foolish.

Ok, so you're saying that you're going to buy an Android phone because the Beats headphones they are releasing in a couple weeks that you've not used/seen reviews for suck?

Do you usually decide to not watch a movie as soon as they announce its going into production?

Why am I not surprised? Removing the 3.5mm jack is just Tim's ploy to make more money off Beats. Guess "tax dodging/selling underpowered and outdated Macs/selling overpriced products/not updating or fixing things that need to be fixed and just adding more emoji to iMessage" isn't bringing in enough money.

Seriously?

When you consider that Apple's iPhone sales are in a slump, with even more dire predictions for next year, how many sets of headphones and MFi licenses do you think Apple will have to sell to make up for the loss of just one phone that somebody doesn't buy because the headphone jack has been removed?

Because there's no doubt that Apple will lose market share if they do this. I wouldn't be surprised if this move costs Apple millions of customers looking to upgrade this month.

So again, you all are saying Apple's plan is to hemorage more high dollar iPhone profit losses all to make a fraction of the revenue on inexpensive license fees and headphone sales?

If this affected every single iPhone user, maybe there would be the volume that could potentially make up for the losses, but even that seems like a stretch. The reality is, no where near 100% of all iPhone users are buying aftermarket headphones. And by all accounts Apple is still going to give away Lightning headphones which are likely used by the majority of those who do use headphones (so no profits there). So now we're looking at a small but substantial subset of iPhone customers who will buy aftermarket headphones and/or adapters subject to these MFi licenses. And it's this minority percentage of iPhone customers you're suggesting will justify the loss of millions of other iPhone customers who buy a Galaxy s7 because it still has a headphone jack?

I've gotta say, I don't really follow the logic there.

No, I'm looking at what is happening. Apple are dropping the 3.5mm jack so they can sell more beats headphones. I'm giving their marketing department two fingers. I won't be buying an iPhone with no headphone jack.

Am I the only one who would rather deal with the slight inconvenience of a cord connecting the earbuds over the 99% chance of losing one of them, rendering the pair useless?
In addition the controls are much more convenient on the cord than they are on a bud itself.

My thinking is that these things may have some kind of magnetic inductive charging/data cable, that allows them to be used as wired headphones when they run out of power. So, while the cable is not needed, one may be able to be added very simply, by just clipping one on magnetically, that actually serves a greater purpose.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how good of an investment are Beats headphones? I've heard many say they're cheap quality and over priced.

Oh please, people have been saying this rhetoric ever since the March event. "There will be no Macs, expect WWDC" "There will be no Macs, expect September"

At some point this crap does get old, and people are right to be mad. I guess everything is hunky dory if all you care about is iPhones, iPad Pros, and Watch Bands.

GET RID OF THE BEATS BRANDING AND JUST MAKE THEM LOGOLESS APPLE PRODUCTS!

Yeah it still surprises me why Apple hasn't fully absorbed the Beats property yet. I get that they've got Beats One for the radio station, but the link to Apple is not made clear when it comes to Beats headphones. Why aren't they branded Apple Beats yet?

it's just an overall feeling that Apple don't really care for customer loyalty. Not just with the iPhone, but the way they are handling product updates for the entire Mac range too. Go into an Apple store and computers are pretty much an afterthought - it's all iphones, ipads and watches. Everything is becoming low-end consumer-orientated, which matters if you use Apple kit to run your business - there's no roadmap and very little reassurance for anyone wanting to form any kind of IT strategy using Apple kit. Personally I like one platform from desktop to mobile and Apple are bit by bit dismantling the product range into something that I wouldn't touch with a bargepole if I were starting my business today. In a nutshell its about trust, and I no longer trust Apple as a brand.

Isn't the PC market declining? Apple know where their profits come from and that's what gets attention.

Soon whattaya gonna do after Samsung copies Apple?

With all the beats deals in the past couple weeks and products sold out. I expected it.

Love the sound of my studio 2.0. Build quality is trash though.

This is exciting to me. I love my Beats headphones and would jump on some true wireless ones, ala Bragi, in a heartbeat.
I love mine too, but the bluetooth on thme is crapiest i have ever used. If my iPhone is in the side pocket of my pants and i'm going to the gym on my bicycle the sound is cutting off.

Why doesn't Apple just improve the quality of new Beats headphone products? Is it because it would reduce margins? I thought Apple's DNA was that they don't sell junk.
How do you know they're not?
Isn't that what the article says?
They are coming out with *NEW* Beats?
