By now people should be well aware that there will be no Macs at this event and likely it will be at some point in October. Expecting anything else is foolish.

I wouldn't say that exactly. There are rumors of new iMacs and updated MBAs. Im not sure this is going to satisfy those who are anxious for a new MBP though.

And there's one very good reason to introduce a couple of updated Macs here -- the removal of the headphone jack is going to cause a lot of hand wringing, and one area that is going to cause some alarm is the Macs which only have 3.5mm jacks and USB for audio.

So I'm predicting based on the rumors, that we will see a new iMac with a Lightning port added, and USB-C. There will also be an updated MacBook Air, with a Lightning port added, and possibly one or two USB-C ports. They might even update the new retina MacBook with a Lightning port at the same time as well. That will signal to developers that they can expect Lightning support to come to all new Macs down the line.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how good of an investment are Beats headphones? I've heard many say they're cheap quality and over priced.
It depends what kind of music you listen to. Any treble or midtones get drowned out by bass, so if you like to hear subtlety in your music, you may not like them. I recently tried a pair out and found that my favorite playlist sounded like junk because everything was drowned out by droning bass.

Yeah it still surprises me why Apple hasn't fully absorbed the Beats property yet. I get that they've got Beats One for the radio station, but the link to Apple is not made clear when it comes to Beats headphones. Why aren't they branded Apple Beats yet?
Strangely, I don't mind Beats One for the radio. It's just the headphone hardware that needs rebranding IMO. This became clear to me after seeing the rose gold and white headphone image in the story, it's an Apple headphone.
Someone retouch out the the Beats logo please! :D

I agree, I've never been a fan of the Beats sound in general, though some of their headphones do sound better than others like any manufacturer.

By removing the port, Apple does not have to include a component and the associated manufacturing labor. That decreases production cost. Since Apple does not lower the price of products that have fewer components, that means they get a larger profit margin.

Cash grab then. As if their margins aren't big enough. Makes a mockery of their crowing about user experience.

lol they have to fill the time somehow for what looks so far to be a pretty lackluster event.

The only reason I will be watching it live is because I want to see what excuse Apple comes up with for removing the headphone jack. If they weren't removing the headphone jack or if this reason was leaked, then I wouldn't be watching the event live, rather watching the archive at my leisure.

So you really believe with the large amounts of leaks, videos...ultimately proof of no headphone jack, that there is still a chance of having it in the iPhone? Do you? Pretty much confirmed already....
That may be the case, but the word "will" is a certainty. 100% confidence. It's used on this site all the time and it's inappropriate to do so.

So basically Tim realized that the beats purchase was not profitable so he said ill just remove the headphone jack so they have to buy my beats now haha. Still thinking profit over product is the BEST... IDEA... EVER!

beats was purchased mainly for beats music.. the headphones were a throw in ;)

It's getting more and more confusing.

Apple buys Beats, now rumored to offer new wireless (and lightning-wired) headphones when the new iPhone comes out.

Apple has been rumored to work on their own completely wireless ear pods (AirPods) for quite some time now, at least a year or more. There is pretty good evidence re the name etc. And those ain't gonna be cheap.

Bragi, a German company btw., has a BIG announcement scheduled for the 5th, in Cupertino. Rumor has it they are being acquired by Apple. Maybe, maybe not, but something is strange about the timing and place of the announcement.

Just some thoughts:

Why would Apple buy a headphone company when working on their own premium head phones. They'd cannibalize their own sales.

Are the rumored AirPods indeed Beats ear pods?

Why would Apple buy yet another headphone company (if they indeed were to buy Bragi), and in particular the one with the first truly wireless ear pods (that have been in production for quite some time and been sold since the beginning of the year), when they already HAVE one headphone company? Wouldn't two different brands (or even three, including the Apple one), get way too confusing? Why would they buy them when they were working on their own AirPods? Do they try to take out the competition? Did they never really work on their own ones?

Questions, so many questions. I, for one, am certainly looking forward to next week's event. I've been in the market for the Dash for quite some time now, but did want to wait to see what Apple comes up with ... don't like the idea that the AirPods might be Beats stuff, at all, though ...

Pretty excited about this...my wife's cat just chewed up my last pair. Although they're no "hi-fi" grade cans they are quite good for the morning jog.

This is going to be a lot of announcements...Beats, iPhone, iOS 10, Apple Watch 2, watchOS, macOS

iPhone will take 10 minutes, iOS 10 will take 8-10 minutes, Apple Watch 2 will take 5 minutes, they already covered watchOS in June, mac OS will take 10 minutes, Beats will take 30 minutes. There's your event.

Macs, until recently(because of the lack of updates), were growing and making as much revenue for Apple as iPads. Apple chose to push the iPad Pro agenda.

If anything was in decline, it was(and still is) the iPad.

Holy crap... so true. If there is a sharp decline in mac sales it's because the model line has stagnated and prices have stayed the same.

We don't know their thought process of course, but they have followed the perfect blueprint for deliberately destroying market demand for macs.

Why am I not surprised? Removing the 3.5mm jack is just Tim's ploy to make more money off Beats. Guess "tax dodging/selling underpowered and outdated Macs/selling overpriced products/not updating or fixing things that need to be fixed and just adding more emoji to iMessage" isn't bringing in enough money.

someone's jimmies are rustled!

In terms of how they will hold up over time.

I'd give beats studio a 4 of 10. This is of course only based on my experiences and friends that have the same or similar model.

I could go into a long rant and will provide specifics of asked. The short version is the hinges will break, headband likely crack and ear cushions for sure need to be replaced between one year from purchase or so.

The sound and battery life is still great but beats look.... Beat.

Owwww look..... Here is a set of new heaphones that will work great with the new iphone that comes without a 3.5mm jack.

My problem the wired version will have a proprietary connector making them useless for anything but idevices . No thanks.

The 3.5mm version is better, even if you have to use an adapter. At least that way you can use it with other Apple products

There's an awful lot of "X is true" / "X will happen" on this site when when folks ought to be saying is, "I believe/bet X is true / will happen". Happens so much in the comments it's hard to fight the tide. It's sad when it happens in headlines.

So basically... wireless Beats and Beats with a lightning connector, not worth more than 5min of stage time.
Good thing, too, because the broadcast is scheduled to run from 10:00 to 10:05.
