How are they broken? They've worked fine for me.

Well, 4 times now (Actually lost count might be 5 or 6 now) all of the items popped out of the folders and ended up in a random order. To top it off randomly all of the items on every page reversed. Everything from page 1 ended up on page 8.

I have also lost a few applications. The icons don't show up anymore, I have to use spot light to find them. I am not even full on pages anymore, they are just gone.

I've had the old GM on my iPad for a few days, and it seemed like I had to reconnect WiFi everytime I unlocked it, even if it was just a few seconds after being connected and then locking it. It's annoying enough to warrant fixing that bug.

And hopefully it's to revert the physical switch back to a screen lock. Because it's seriously EXCEPTIONALLY STUPID to make that switch; it makes NO sense to have an instant mute-switch on the iPad, and it's not nearly as convenient to double-tap, slide and push the button. I used the switch all the time to instantly prevent unwanted rotation with one hand; now it's not nearly as easy to do it with one hand.

OMG the horror!

Agreed. Actually, beyond exceptionally stupid. Going back to Screen Lock.

Nov 24. :apple:

It should have downloaded in ipsw form.

Try googling iOS 4.2 and gumball tech

No. The download link (circled in red in the MacRumors article in the beginning of the thread) is a DMG file.

Gumball tech doesn't have the 8C134b yet, only the 8C134 from November 1st.

Gumball tech has 8C134b (it's under "News" for some reason), I'm downloading it now ;)

I'm on the side of sense and obviously want Apple to take their time and get it right, but bloody 'ell don't some people go over the top about it!? The only official word from Apple was "November" so you're getting pissed at Apple over internet rumours of dates which have no solid connection with any official announcements? (and no I haven't spelt rumours wrong I'm English...) Also getting irate because Apple released a GM as a private release and bugs have been discovered, and as a result being rectified before release to the general public? Makes no sense to me to be annoyed in any way...

Yeah it'll be great when the update comes and it works brilliantly, but for the time being it's not like you lot complaining haven't got iPhones and iPads etc that work perfectly well at the moment with the current iOS is it?!

I've been following posts from people who took the golden master when it was originally released and immediately noticed the WiFi issues within minutes of installing it.

I continue to be surprised at how poor Apple's quality control is. I don't expect software to be perfect, but I would love to know how some of these obvious and critical issues make it into a golden master.

I've been running the GM since release and have had zero problems with WIFI. The tag of GM just states that this will be the final build unless a critical problem is found. Do you really believe they would have tagged it as GM if this WIFI problem had been so easy to notice, the fact that it took them this long to reissue a new GM tells me that this was a problem that affected a few costumers and was non obvious. Now if they had not sorted this out and reissued a new GM then you would have reason to moan about the QA, but since that is not the case, well...

For those non-developers who want 4.2, without a UDID I managed to download the ipsw off the Internet and installed it... I did nothing else, people should try it, i love 4.2!

Mmmm... I got my iPad jailbroken last month. I got folders, multitasking, multiple clipboard memory, settings shortcut, any video can be played in my emails and I can free memory any time to work flawlessly .... I really will wait until a compatible version show up for this iOS. Once you go jailbreak you really have a tablet computer that works... Otherwise you just have a big iPod. I learn that in cold turkey.

I noticed this (or a) issue last night when loading web pages, I'd have to tap a link several times for it to load -- otherwise it might just sit there with the activity indicator spinning but making no progress.

Gosh, this thread is getting funner by the hour.

We've got a supposed developer/microprocessor designer who wants it, wants it now... And that the GM IS alway the public release, even though there plenty of historic precedents suggesting otherwise. I'd hate to be using something this guy has developed!

We've got the 'changing that switch thing on the side has destroyed my life' crew, who are still sulking over their dignity injury of having to re-learn how to use a function that's used maybe... Once a day. Oh the pain!

We've got the usual rabble of 'this delay is seriously damaging my iPad use', as though their ipad has been magically rendered useless by the mere presence of an update somewhere in the world.

We've got the 'mac rumors rumor is always an official statement' crew, who also are suffering a dignity injury, because suddenly because of some rubbish statements, an on-time product is 'late'. As though sulking is going to make apple engineers work harder, faster, and better in order to get them their prize in the next 24 hours. Bloody gen y and their 'entitlement'.

Keep it comin' guys. It's hilarious.

I on the other hand use my iPad for critical work functions. It might be hard for those who always need to have the 'latest and greatest' to understand, but I need this to work, and retain my work without problems or issues. Even when it is publicly released, I intend to hold off while you 'early adaptors' find all the bugs, and sulk at the instabilities. To those of you who throw your hat into the ring and fail your computer on my behalf... I thank you.

After all, it is you who probably found the wifi bug for apple to fix!

But seriously.... If you're using something that's not a public release, you've got no recourse for complaint. Be that release a 'golden master' or otherwise. You took the risks, you 'knew' what you were doing, and there's no written guarantee from apple about the stability or the functionality of their GM release.

So suck it up.

Well, I'm curious to see exactly what is different in the "b" version.

Maybe our App updates for the GM release will all be approved by the 24th too. :D

Makes sense for them to keep in it in the oven for a bit longer if they're getting reports of reproducible wifi bugs.

GM or no, I think it's better they don't ship it with anything show-stopping. Impatience is one thing, but I bet the noise would be a whole lot louder if they'd shipped this and had to deal with a whole bunch of annoyed customers with wifi problems.

OK so the "8C134b" build fixes the WiFi issue. But what I want to know is does it break the Airprint hack?

YouTube

Sorry if this has been mentioned (didnt read whole thread).
I love the iOS 4.2 gm (I'm typing form my iPad right now) but the only issue iv had is with the YouTube app. It will say either the video isn't there or it can't be played then I go back like 1 minute later and it played fine. Plus when one of those messages appears I need to close the YouTube app because the screen goes black and no controls pop up. This has happens for a good 1/2 of the videos iv watched, and it really annoying. Hope this fixed it.
P.s. I also am very happy they fixed the podcast downloading (stuff you should know, tech stuff, ect.) issue with iOS 4
