Wait or buy a 13" MBA

Good thing I did some research first. I'm trying As hard as I can to wait.

Waiting would be the best thing you can do right now. Best buy is already showing an SKU for $1199 with release on March 11. While Best Buy has gotten its intel wrong before, this is pretty good evidence that the MBP update is very close. Add on the fact that Apple's stock is SERIOUSLY running low in everywhere but the US, it should happen within the next 2-3 weeks. As long as you have a working computer right now, it won't hurt to wait.

Of course you should wait!! Those people who say just buy are saying it to make themselves feel better. Sure the current model 'can' do everything you need but you will feel stupid buying now when the new model comes out and for the same money offers better everything. It's like buying a car, who wants to buy an older model when they can get a new model refresh for the same money. Always, always , always improvements in the new model.

Wed morning can't seem to google anything yet for today
Lol

This is tough, I'm without a laptop this could deff be a long month or so. The only thing that is keeping me going is the new stories that are popping up everyday.

My laptop broke this morning. It has had trouble charging for the past few months, but at least it was still largely usable. Today, it officially has stopped charging at all, so once the battery runs out (within the next 2 hours), I am officially computer-less. However, I have been following rumors of the new MBP since early December so I think I'll suffer and hold out. My university has plenty of computers in the library that should sustain me. But I do hope the new MBPs are only a few weeks away...

Here's what I did... Bought a dell in the meantime .. 21 day no questions asked return policy ;) it's doing it's job well

Hopefully the refresh will take place during that 21 day window.

Of course, you can always return in that window, and then just wait.

Oh man, Working retail has trained me well to HATE retail renters... This is the reason why companies try to charge restocking fees... Thanks!

Side note, Can't wait for the refresh to happen, Hope its soon, and hopefully these rumored AMD based graphics MBP's will not be another lame "kinda-powerful" chip like the current 330's, I want to at least enjoy some gaming on the MBP I plan to buy, And as it stands, My $700 Alienware M11x beats every apple notebook in the GFX department which is just sad...

That thought crossed my mind, but I was worried I'd get screwed over with the return policy. May I ask where you got it from? I'm very much into that plan...

I feel your pain, but you do realize that if you keep it plugged in, it will continue working?

hmm.. I just got accepted for Apple finance for a new MBP.
Havent recieved the contract yet... Wondering should I hold off?

The question is though - Is this refresh just going to be a CPU upgrade?
Or are we going to see a total redesign? ssd, battery, case etc?

Wait.

No one knows, although most are doubting we'll see a total redesign.

This is the magic question. I would assume no less then Sandy Bridge, updated GPUs, and probably different storage options.

I bought a MBA from Best Buy last week, but if the new MBP's have similar specs to the MBA I won't think twice about bringing it back and swapping it out.

Well if by similar they will possibly add in SSD drives and then a new-er GFX processor to make them SCREAM then yes, Similar... But I call that WAY different, and waaaaaaaay better for the $$$.

The question then comes down to, Do you need that performance vs the portability that you get with your MBA?

That's pretty greasy.

meh it could work both ways. I'm sure people have done that and ended up keeping the system b/c they liked it. Or something happened like they forget to return the system in that window and are stuck with it etc etc. It's how trial offers work..forgetting to cancel the trial etc. Why doesn't everyone do this? because of this issues listed or b/c they don't have the money to be "tied" up into something else.

Must wait...must wait. ;) this is going to be tough for me.

Well I didn't tell the whole story really. I sold my late 09 mbp17 (3.06ghz128gbssd8gbram) planning to get an i7 model but the mouse acceleration playing games drove me mad so I decided to try out a pc machine. I opted for an alienware which has been amazing so far (2820 CPU 256gb SSd 8gb ram and gtx 460). The specs blow away what the new mbp will come out with for gaming anyways but i am more than happy to sacrifice much for osx, lightweight, and long battery life.

So I a way I AM testing this new alienware out but in fact it's the only pc I would consider over a Mac. As of right now it's a part of the intel recall so I have no choice but to mail it in for a refund. Then I'll get another and 30 days from then gives me 50 or so odd days for apple to release anything or I'll be keeping the aw r3.
