Last Thursday I placed an order for a BTO 15" MBP through the Dutch online Apple store. Initially the expected delivery date communicated to me was the 25th of February. Now today I received an e-mail stating 'the demand for my item is unexpectedly high resulting in some delay', new estimated delivery date is March 8th.

So unless Apple is short of (BTO) 128gb SSDs, I guess this means the new MBPs must be really close (and I will likely be canceling my order and getting a new one;). I would personally go for before March, the 1st of at the latest.

Seems like a strong indication the update is due early March. I see no other reason why Apple would postpone a BTO order.

I have been told that Apple has in the past sent people the new model when they order the later one this close to the change. Or at least give them the option.

No sure but it has come up before.

Out of interest, you say "delivery date is March 8th". As in it gets to your house on March 8th? If so, does it give you a shipping date as well? I guess the best explanation is MBPs released on 1 March, a couple of days to BTO the machine, and a couple more to get it to you.

It's things like this that I've been waiting a long time for. Retailers can be out of stock, and it means very little. But when people start getting unexpected delays on purchases directly from Apple's online store, it's pretty much a cert.

As Apple knows there's a good chance that you'll just send an old one back if you get it around the time new ones are released, they will likely send you a new one of better specifications at similar cost. Or, ask you which one you want when they are finally released.

Okay everybody, I'm now convinced that the new MBPs will be released in early March. In my country (Hong Kong) the current MBP, to be exact, the 13-inch base model, the 15-inch base model and the 17-inch base model's shipping window has been pushed to 4-6 business days. Other models are not affected at this point.

I believe that it indicates that a spec bump is imminent: Apple will phase out the base models - obviously the 13-inch will say good-bye to the C2D CPU.

Swedish Applestore still ships within 24 hours. Either they are sloppy updating the timetables, or we actually buy less MBPs up here in the north than the rest of you..

Maybe it's because of the keyboard? It's not like they are going to sell swedish keyboard MBP anywhere else. Maybe thats why they still have everything in stock? They have bigger stockpile of swedish keyboard MBPs because they can't use any other country specific setup...

If you look at non-mac online store on the other hand the MBPs are running low.
ONOFF 13" - 2 weeks 15" - 2 weeks 17" - 2 weeks
(thats the base models. They have other options available)

El-giganten 13" - 5+ in stock 15" - Expected Feb 28th 17" - Not Available
(Small numbers of 13". MBAs have like 25+ or 50+ available)

Macoteket 13", 15" and 17" - Delivery March 29th
(That is the base models. Some models other than base have a delivery time of March 1st and others has an unknown delivery time.)

Dustin 13", 15", 17" - Not in stock.
(In fact no models available)

Yes, I do keep an eye open on those stores...
Oh, can't write this post any longer. Must go back and refresh macrumors. :D

Dick Smith in Australia and NZ have 10% of Macs this week. There is limited stock of MBPs at this retailer.

Dutch online apple store has all on stock (24 hrs), and all custom configs on 3 business days. Nothing unusual.

Though several online resellers in the Netherlands are out of stock for most models. All stores either say 'unknown delivery time', '10+ business days' or '2-4 weeks'.

One indicates an expected date, currently march 8th, but I noticed it's just defaultly set to today + 2 weeks, as yesterday it stated 'March 7th' and at 00:05 it stated March 8th.

No exact dates, as I'd expect, as Apple doesn't seem to announce delivery at least before they have sent out invitations to an event.

Let's hope we see the invitations on MacRumors in the next few days (usually 7 to 10 days before an event, I figured that out by checking the invitation dates for the past few events).

I think all we can do is wait for the invitations, which should happen any day now..

Apple doesn't need to organize an event in order to introduce the new MBPs. The last time they were updated the store went down and several hours later people were able to place orders for the new machines.

Once announced what are the time lines to get a new MBP in your hands ? From the apple store or any local retailer like best buy or future shop ?

What are the usual shipping times when it's business as usual? 24hrs?

The stated expected shipping date is February 25th. Yes shipping of BTO's takes insanely long, but that was the case previously as well.

(notice the 25th is a couple of days after Tuesday/Wednesday 22nd/23rd!!! OMG!! ;) hehe)
