Gratz, i'm loving this thing. Don't forget, this is not a glossy monitor. You will have barely any reflections and its easy on the eyes. Been reading/surfing the web 3 hrs a night and have had no eye strain.

I'm really looking forward to getting this monitor. I already took the HP w2408h out of the box and put it on my desk, but I don't think I'm going to keep it. I haven't even turned it on yet (waiting for HDMI adapter). I think it might be a bit too big and I have a window directly behind me that I think is going to cause a glare problem. I think I've decided I'm going to keep the Dell regardless. I just wish I would have thought of this before opening up the other monitor to avoid restocking fee. That or just try to sell it.

I couldnt have delivered this info any faster. I got an email through dell business for deals etc. I just happen to find this monitor (NEW) labeled on it. Did research the next 24hrs and ordered it.

I have both the ACD and this 2209WA. I see no sparkling unless i have my eyes 6 inches from the screen lol. I sit back about 1 and 1/2 feet from the screen and have not seen any of artifacts u describe.

On neither the ACD nor the Dell? Well, I guess I'll have to see who else I can ask...to me, it's immediately noticeable on any matte ACD. Thanks for checking, though.

I understand what your saying, if I look hard enough I can see what your talking about. Its just not that noticeable once I start working.

Ah, OK. Well, would you be able to rate the strength of it on the Dell relative to the ACD, anyway? I'd really appreciate it. :)

Got the Dell

Well after reading reviews and talking to one other person here in the forums I bought this display and have to say so far, that its really nice, I am returning my ACD because of the waste of a 600 dollar display sitting on my desk that is never going to be used for what it was designed for, that and peace of mind from some one complaining about the budget.

Seriously its a nice display, I wear glasses and sit about 1 to 1.5 ft away from it but will be farther once I pick out another desk "IKEA", I have a 2nd display being delivered today by FedEx Ground which was a cover my butt kind of thing incase this one did not make it here on time before returning the ACD at lunch time. Not sure if I am going to keep it and run duals for what I use a computer for is kinda an overkill, although I am putting myself through a private pilots course and flying XPlane on duals mite be better, not sure cross that bridge when I come too it.

All in all its a very nice display, the adjustments on the side are great, that part I love, so freaking easy, at least someone with a BRAIN listend.
Brigthness is ok, mines at 70%, and I have it on the preset for "Cool" it works thats all I know. I know that I did NOT like the way apple had the anti-glare, matte finish on the ACD's that really screwed with my eyes but in the long run adjusted too it.

One thing I found out from the Dell rep, who was really GREAT, these all ship from Tennessee, no where else and if it dose say on the listing ships with in 24hours than it will BUT that also depends on what time your order was placed. And I called the Business line, somehow my acct was pushed into the business side of the house, I dont get any price breaks either.

please update on what monitor you actually decide on!!

I received the Dell today and I'm impressed. I'm loving it. It's crisp and bright. No dead pixels or bleeding (that I can tell anyways). I haven't done any calibration yet and honestly, I'm not even sure which I would need. I'm by no means an expert at colors and monitors, but I know what I like when I see it and this I love. I didn't even do a side by side comparison with he HP w2408h. I knew I didn't want it and sent it back. I like the size of the Dell better and matte screen (I do like glossy, but I have a two windows in my office, one of which is directly behind me) and I'd rather have an ISP panel. So there it is and I'm happy.

IMHO outstanding display

Like the title says , one fantastic display, I went through the setup on the display and picked the predetermined color and brightness schemes that were eye pleasing to me. I do not think I am going to use the Apple Color wizard, no need, and for what graphics editing I do , its not needed for me.

Just buy it

My Review

I got this monitor (the 2209WA) at the end of last week, so I thought I'd add my review. This monitor was definitely money well spent. I just finished writing a paper for a graduate engineering class I'm taking, and being able to put my open Pages document next to a .pdf of a Nature paper and be able to read both was extremely helpful (especially when compared to my unibody macbook's screen). The colors are beautiful and the viewing angles really are 178/178. At EXTREME angles (standing a foot or two above the monitor, looking down from 18 inches away) I do notice that the blacks become a little less black, but it takes a lot more than just moving around in my desk chair to get this effect. I don't really have time for games, but I tried Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, and FEAR on this monitor. They all look great, with no perceptible ghosting, so I'll buy the response time Dell publishes. The stand adjusts in every way imaginable, which is very handy. I also like that there are 4 USB ports available on the monitor when it is plugged into a USB port on the computer: I keep my external hard drive and a logitech keyboard plugged into the monitor at all times. Also, Dell's warranty for the UltraSharps (and maybe the regular monitors) is unbeatable.

Could this monitor be better? A higher resolution would be nice, but 1680 by 1050 is plenty for my needs (and I wouldn't want to shell out double the price of this monitor for a 24 inch IPS display with 1920 by 1200 resolution). Also, the brightness controls don't really seem to do the trick when there are no other lights on: even with brightness all the way down in completely dark conditions, the screen looks too bright, so I use the free ScreenShade program available for Macs to dim the monitor a bit more. When there's any ambient light around, though, the brightness is fine.

Overall: This monitor was an amazing deal at $278 (no tax in my state, shipping was free, and Dell gives student discounts). I have absolutely no regrets about buying it and I look forward to using it for years to come.

Glad u like the monitor. I've had no issues at all with it. It tackles any game I throw at it. The color and clarity are outstanding. Honestly, can't believe this thing was only $300.

I waited for over a yr to replace a top of the line CRT. Well worth the wait.

Worth the price savings?

Quick question:

I've been eyeing the HP LP2475w for quite some time. I love what I'm learning about the 2209WA. My question is regarding resolution. What exactly would I be losing by using the 1680 x1050 resolution of the 2209WA vs. 1920 X 1200 resolution of the HP LP2475w?

Is sacrificing 2" of screen space and a lower max resolution worth the major price savings ($300)? I'd be using the monitor for extended web surfing and writing in m.word, along with video editing (with my MBP).

Like I've posted elsewhere, the Dell IPS monitors have always been top notch all around. I've had my Dell 3007WFP-HC for over a year and a half now, and my 2007FP (in portrait mode) S-IPS monitor for over 2 years now, and they're still going strong.

Glad to see this thread is still going strong, and that everyone likes the monitor so far.

okay well then can you recommend an isp panel that is 24inch and under 300...?

Nope, no such beast exists. Prices have yet to drop to that level. Hopefully in a couple of years, though. We'll have to see how this e-IPS technology does.

Aye... I'm going to hold out as long as I can until I can get a IPS 24" for a reasonable price.

Any comments on the life span of an LCD monitor.

My 17" Samsung 172x has been going strong for 4 years now without any noticeable deterioration. I've yet to find a slimmer or better looking bezel either, which helps me hold out when new stuff gets released every year.

Have you tried Nocturne? A friend who has an extremely bright monitor uses and likes it.

Just bought two of them, they should be here tomorrow! :D

Cool, once I get my new desk, which is going to have to be constructed, because I cannot find anything I like that my long legs can fit under I am going to get another display card and add 2 more MAYBE. Waiting on the Dell Rep to get back to me on pricing, I know of others locally that want this so we are putting together an order of 20, FedEx Ground is going to love me:D

Sorry to get off topic, but if you're looking for a desk made for a tall person, check out the Galant series from Ikea. The desk legs are height adjustable. I'm 6'5 and a have a big frame, and i have tons of leg room under my desk :D

Thank you , I did just that and even showed the wife, and she's like
"you want a simple desk like that , for that money"
I just rolled my eyes and didn't say a thing.

Which one did you get and which set of legs

PM me your reply , I just thought about the off topic thing, long day and the eyes are closing already
