Gave it a try using a HDMI-DVI adapter. Was extremely pleased with the results.

IIRC, you can't get a separate audio cable out when using HDMI on the 360, so hooking it up to this Dell might mean you'd be without sound? Could be wrong though...

Soooooo after a huge debate, i finally decided to get the sp2309w

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dell/SP2309WOB/

i guess now they raised the price to 299 but i paid 280... but i LOVE it... i have it on a LCD arm and its fantastic. great colors, huge resolution, (i blacked out the dell logo so i dont have to look at the stupid silver dell logo)

but over all it was a great choice.... and would suggest it to any one looking for a good screen for under 300

Dell is having a sale at the moment, $206.10. I finally bit the bullet and bought one to go along with my 2005FPW S-IPS.

You beat me to the punch. I saw this last night and bought one. That was too good to pass up. Just one little hint: Don't mix up your billing and shipping addresses. I have been going back and forth with Dell today to straighten that out.

Company name??

Man, that's a great deal. But...

What should l write to fill out that column? I do not own a business... I am just a local public school employee.

My problem is that my billing and shipping addresses are two different addresses. I am having the monitor shipped to work, but my card has my home address. I accidently put my work address in both lines, and my card company rejected the order.

Of course, when I contacted Dell to fix this, I have been getting the run around. I finally broke down and called them, and a rep re-issued the order. When I got the confirmation email, it was for a completely different monitor. It was for the E2209W, a non-ultrasharp model with a TN panel. I am now trying to cancel THAT order, and get the correct model. They are telling me that the 2209WA is no longer in stock, and they can't send me one. My frustration level is rising rapidly.

Anyway, for business name, you could just make up something like "yourlastname consulting". They don't check.

Thank you, Steve. I would like to hear what the other people did. I hope they won't give me a hard time about business name.

Oh, and did I hear the 2209wa is currently out of stock? That's a real bummer. Sorry to hear you had to go through all that. Sounds like a real pain...

So far we haven't heard from anyone actually using this monitor with their macs. I have a new unibody macbook pro and have heard some complaints of fuzziness of text etc on 22'' monitors that have this 1680 resolution (instead of 1920). Also, if you search around the web, people are also having trouble getting mac os to recognize this monitor at the native 1680 resolution. Can anyone who has one report?

I actually have two 2209WA's connected to my new Nehalem Mac Pro @ 1680x1050 resolution. They are very sharp, good brightness, vivid color with no gradients. I researched different monitor setups for quite a while and came to the conclusion that this is the best deal out there regarding price vs. quality. To get 3360 x 1050 total resolution (using two) for under $500... You just can't beat that deal!

I have a Dell 2209WA + a Macbook pro 2.2 Santa Rosa. When using the DVI input the display does not work, it stays blank and cannot find the input signal from the MBP. If I use the DVI to VGA adaper works fine. I would like to use the digital input  . Does anyone have this setup? Any comment on why would this happen or how to fix it?

(I have tested the DVI input using windows and it works just fine)

Here's my setup:
Dell 2209WA, 15" Uni-MBP with Speck Black Satin See-Through case, Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet, Epson CX8400 AIO, 1TB, 500GB WD External Mybook HD's.

Dual-Monitor Config (I don't use it this way often at all):

Excuse the poor pics, They were just quick snaps with some bounced flash spot-metered to the monitors.

Overall I like this setup. The high-res/small screen of the 15" had my eyes bumpin' after a day of work/reading.

Love the 22". I think 24" would be nice, but almost think it might be too big...

It works great for photo-editing, although I confess I don't use the portrait rotation mode at all. It's too much trouble to switch in system preferences, then switch back, yadda yadda yadda...

I still need to get a proper monitor calibrator and calibrate this thing. I can tell the colors are off, but hopefully not by far.
I usually post pictures for others to see on their monitors and they tell me if they're ok or not.

The downside is: When it's a black screen, I can see some NAAAASTY bleeding from the top left and right 1/4 area, and if you look right, you can see some from the bottom too.
When its a regular desktop it's no problem, but when watching movies etc. it is noticeable. Perhaps I'll try and take a pic of it some time.

Math Genius!

I've emailed DELL asking:

"HOW THE HELL CAN YOU JUSTIFY CHARGING ENGLISH CUSTOMERS £251.85 AND AMERICAN CUSTOMERS $279.00 FOR THIS MONITOR!!??

I anticipate a swift response and a breakdown of your costs."

Obviously I won't get a response but I think it stinks -- even if the markets have become less favourable for English/UK consumers lately, they're still fleecing an extra £40 or so out of us.

EDIT: Also, what the feck are these icons above my avatar? Rule x y z blah blah???!!!

Well, I guess I'm just doomed to stick with my crappy 19" no name monitor. I had the 2209WA on order, and ran into lots of frustrations with the order. (See earlier post) The final straw was today when I got a note saying that the ship date had been delayed to at least 13 April. I told Dell to cancel the order. I was going to order my backup plan monitor, the Samsung 2243BWX from Newegg. The Samsung also has the tilt and height adjustment that I wanted, even if it isn't an IPS panel. Well, I checked Newegg after canceling the Dell order, only to find out the Samsung is sold out. Oh yes, and now Dell has ended the $50 instant savings on the 2209WA, so it is back up to $279.

Guess I should have checked on the backup plan BEFORE canceling that order, eh? In contrast, I ordered a refurb 2GB Shuffle from Apple on Monday. I got the notice it had shipped yesterday, and I should have it in my grubby little hands by 6 April. Why can't more companies make things this easy? Geesh.

how to get two monitors working as extended monitor? at the moment I have 23" ACD but am thinking of two 2209's as I am very impressed with the one I bought for my wife.

I've noticed that my monitor darkens and brightens by itself sometimes. I really noticed it while playing COD4 and I go to the in-game menu, switching menus makes it go dark, then switching to another menu makes it lighten.
Also on web pages its like it auto-darkens when there's a bright page that comes up...Anyone notice this?

My 2209WA arrived yesterday, and I'm quite impressed. Overall, I still like my 2005FPW better, but the 2209WA is sitting there with it at the top of my recommendations. The backlight is as close to perfect as I can imagine.

I've got a review here. In the pictures, the 2209WA is on the right and running Vista, and the "old" 2005FPW is on the left running the Mac, but I've interchanged them a few times to play/test, and there's virtually no difference. However, keep in mind I'm using a hardware calibration unit (Spyder2PRO), which creates its own ICC profiles, and I've set both monitors/OSes to 6500K at 2.2 gamma. I can't tell you what the experience is at with Leopard's default 1.8 gamma.

I'm glad I ordered this thing now. Of course, I placed the order on 2 Apr, and it is still listed as "in production". Geesh, how long does it take that assembly line in China to produce one of these things? Sadly, the delivery date is scheduled for 16 April. Blah.

Anyway, I do want to give credit to the Dell Small Business reps. After my whole ordeal with them (see earlier posts), I canceled my original order. A Dell rep emailed me and asked if there was anything else she could do before closing out the support case. I explained all the issues I had, and jokingly said something to the effect of "only if you have a spare $50 discount lying around." She replied back, and is giving me a $50 credit on my order. Now, if they would only get around to actually shipping the thing to me. :)

From what I can tell, they (normally) build the monitors ahead of time and store them in US warehouses. I've ordered 3 monitors from them over the years; 2 shipped from Sparks, NV (which was great since I live in Reno, about 5 miles away), and the 2209WA from Nashville, TN.

I have a feeling you're not too far off: they probably just plain sold out sometime after I ordered my 2209WA, and are building them in China now. I've ordered a few CTO servers from Dell, and a few weeks to build/ship was not unheard of.

I ordered one March 28 using the coupon for $206.00 and received it yesterday.

I replaced my Dell 2007 WFP S-IPS with this puppy and am quite pleased.

I really can't detect any noticeable difference with this E-IPS.

I think we need to take up a collection fund to get foobar a new keyboard for his PC.

Nice set up though - just giving you a hard time.

Oh no you didn't... THAT, my friend, is a Unicomp Customizer 104, direct descendant of the IBM Model M keyboard, unarguably the finest keyboard ever made. It's loud, has buckling spring keys, and weighs more than your average laptop. You WILL respect the Unicomp. :D
