Multi-touch on the back. Think the Magic Mouse-type surface on the back. On a call and want to raise the volume? Just slide your index finger up the back of the phone. Looking at the screen and want the brightness up? Slide your finger up the back.

Yeah, but by the time you pay the legal bills to actually make that argument in court, Apple wins anyway.

Lawyers can't send out C&D's in bad faith. No lawyer is going to do it without at least some weak basis, and there is none here.

i was joking.

but if it was remote wiped it would still be able to boot, unlike this one.

Because Apple is going to use off-the-shelf remote wipe on sensitive engineering samples?

I'm sure when Apple sends these things out they have the ability to brick them remotely.

. . . also is this maybe a way for apple to fix the reception problem by making the phone a little chunky?

It's not thicker, you just think it is because the sides aren't tapered into the back. At the thickest point, both are the same (or very close to it, obviously its hard to be exact with just a photo).

Indeed. Let this be a lesson to you: If you find a proto-type iphone on a bar restroom floor, take out the sim card and put in Airplane mode so that you can fully inspect the OS.

The iPhone OS 4 has a reference to the front facing camera might just refer to what's coming up on the next iPad. It makes more sense that an iPad have a front facing camera than it does an iPhone.

no, if Apple had released the front facing camera in the iPad they would have cannibalized the new iPhone (w/front facing camera) market. I would have held on to my "S" 1 more year. Now i bought the iPads and will buy the new phone AND next year the iPad w/ the front facing camera. Good marketing.

You must know some pretty honest, by the book lawyers there. The ones I'm familiar with will try and get away with anything.

That aside, at this point the WORST thing Apple can do it have these taken down; that pretty much confirms the leak.

from the original article:

I'm not buying the story that this was found on the floor of some bar. Also, if it's thicker, how does this thing fit into a 3G case?

I once lost a camera in a French Quarter bar. I was a young drunken engineer. These things happen.

Also, the phone doesn't appear thicker. Just less tapered. Probably stretches a 3G case just a bit.

The repercussions for bad faith C&D's are very serious.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but look at the last photo on the bottom right. Doesn't it look like there is a square flash next to the camera? Or is that just me. It kind of looks yellowish

Mark my words: the back of the iPhone 4G will be made of ceramics. Most likely Zirconia as seen in an Apple patent:

https://www.macrumors.com/2006/11/30/radio-transparent-materials-in-iphone/
http://hrmpf.com/wordpress/102/radio-transparent-zirconia-iphone

From the patent:

Some of the reasons for using ceramics over other materials is that it is structurally strong, stiff and radio transparent. This is especially important for wireless hand held devices that include antennas internal to the enclosure. Radio transparency allows the wireless signals to pass through the enclosure and in some cases enhances these transmissions. Other reasons for using ceramics is that they are highly scratch resistant, have color embedded in it (no paint or coatings), can be made into a wide variety of colors, and provides a variety of surface finishes including smooth and rough. Furthermore, the density of ceramics is typically higher than other materials therefore their weight is higher for the same sized part. This additional weight makes the handheld device feel more robust and it makes the device exude greater quality.

If anyone cares, I made a thread about it: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=9701598

I see it, definitely looks like flash, though we already knew that was likely coming :p

i see what your saying, the picture quality isn't any good, and you have to zoom in alot, but instead of one mark, there is two. seams to me the one on the right is a flash... but again the picture quality is awful

I think my head is going to explode.

Its as about as legit as those lockness monster pictures.

loch_ness_monster.jpg

I have a pet lockness monster. How dare you saw that he is fake?

That picture is the one where he is taking a little swim in my swimming pool. :D

I agree, if Apple EVER made a product as clunky and disgusting as the one shown in the picture .....its time to start shorting Apple stock!

This is a Japanese or chinest fake!

Exactly! I would say it's HIGHLY unlikely Apple would produce with that frame.. but stranger things have happened!

I'm sure it will share the same "style" as the prototype but it will obviously have the normal iPhone stuff as well, less (or no) seams, normal volume rocker, etc...
