Has anyone noticed that Apple's displays now lag behind the competition in terms of specifications? While Apple would never hold an event just for new displays, I'm hoping for new ones next week. Unfortunately, Mac Rumors' Buyer's Guide is misleading because it reset the clock on the displays when Apple lowered the price. In actuality, the displays are nearly 2 years old. Caveat emptor.

My take on this.

This will probably be more of a low key event. I am thinking that most of the fun new products will be accessories.

We will probably see an Apple-branded iPod sound system, as well as other iPod accessories. We might see the Asteroid product, as well as a wireless Mighty Mouse. Maybe Apple will intro a new Intel Mac Mini, but new systems seems unlikely to me.

1) the iPod Boombox Michael Jackson Edition;

2) the first biotech and chemistry software package from Apple, Linus Pauling Edition (after all, it's his b-day on 28th).

Go to System Prefrences, to Account Settings, under Log In items, you can have some iCal thing startup and hide in the background. I think this stops it from displaying the wrong date...or at least I think it did for me, I'll double-check when I get home

Hmmm.. i aded ical and it auto starts ical when i log in... (it does display the correct date when running) but i was hoping that this could display the correct date when not running... as soon as i close ical it reverts back to July 17th

The way its worded could mean, just come so you can see the new products, i.e. the ones released in January.

MacBooks are already in stores though..... you can go see one almost anywhere now. that would be quite a stinker though....

The rumored Mac Mini A/V Media is a possibility..
Wouldn't it be "fun" to stick a game in the slot-loading drive and play the game on your "new product" 42" LCD wireless HDTV and "schedule" a show using iCal ?
It would be "fun" and "new" to use the "new" revamped wireless remote shuffle too!..

i've been drunk on apple kool-aid before, but i think this is low key iPod accessories, maybe price cuts for existing models. anything earth shattering will be left for 30th anniversary. even if that 'something' is a touchscreen video pod. it didn't stop them seperating the fanfare for the nano and iPod with video by only 3 or 4 weeks, did it?

Airport Extreme AV compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n.

Mac Mini Media Center: Using Front Row 2.0, with an Input to record and usees iCal to schedule. The Hitch would be real time shifting, view once and its gone. This way it would not compete with ITM&VS.

New remote for that runs Front Row, no output of it to your TV/Monitor. Uses Touch Screen.

Movies for rent/sale at DVD Quality. Subscription to ITMS to rent 3 at a time. ONce you view, your que would download your next selection overnight via a BitTorrent built into iTunes. If you like movie enough, you can buy more rights to it, allowing you to copy to DVD and one other computer.

Thats all.

Or maybe it will the 'real' video idod, with a touch screen for music controls (using a 3rd-gen ipod style button layout, since you probably couldn't use a click wheel if it is built right into the screen). And if they're integrating a touch screen, why not include a stylus and increase the PDA functionality? That would tie into the iCal invite a little.

Awww, who am I kidding? It will probably be JSW's iBlimp (air travel for the rest of us). Meanwhile, I still wait patiently for an iPod that has a capacity over 60GB...
