I was kind of hoping for a bluetooth MacSpresso machine with an iPod docking station, integrated speakers and DVI to hook up to my fridge. :)
Great idea! They could use the leftover G5 chips to boil the water!

and leftover combodrives to power the MacSnowblowers for the east coast; I heard from an apple friend of mine (confidentially of course) that they would be shipping by July.

I hope it's not an new iPod video (looks at 5G iPod on desk)... I really hope it's not...

I think it'll be some sort of iPod accessory or some sort of Mac accessory....unless, of course, it's a new and better video iPod which will make me wish I never bought mine in October... Oh well...

This will probably be about the iPod and new toys for it. Probably some more announcements about new tv shows and such. Maybe even an iPod to TV hook up.

On the computer front most of the existing computers will be getting intel chip upgrades. I only hope the iBook comes with a much needed face lift.

Expect the updated iBook and mini to be marketed towards the iPod crowd to gain new users.

This has ALWAYS driven me nutz!

Go to System Prefrences, to Account Settings, under Log In items, you can have some iCal thing startup and hide in the background. I think this stops it from displaying the wrong date...or at least I think it did for me, I'll double-check when I get home ;)

Displays

Has anyone noticed that Apple's displays now lag behind the competition in terms of specifications? While Apple would never hold an event just for new displays, I'm hoping for new ones next week. Unfortunately, Mac Rumors' Buyer's Guide is misleading because it reset the clock on the displays when Apple lowered the price. In actuality, the displays are nearly 2 years old. Caveat emptor.

yeah! FUN! like the iPlay!

I actually modified my S3ns3o-Coffee-Mashine so it makes coffee on it's on in the morning. If you have one, you know how LOUD these things are. I hooked it up to 2 radio contolled alarm clocks wich were not loud enough for me. The first one activates the water bouler, the second one activates the coffee jet. So now I am waken up by extreme noise and a nice smelling cup of coffee every morning.

Back to topic:
What intrigues me is the "fun" word. Looking at the iPod ads, the iPod sure is a fun product. I put may bets on an iPod related product or a new iPod itself. The actual iPod video is not old, but we've seen fast updates in apple products (MBP) lately, so I guess it has something to do with the iPod. Besides, the iPod is the only product you can't work with, even if you tried.

Or maybe something to go after the PSP? Full screen video iPod with gaming? :D

Apple's Idea of Fun

When are iBooks and minis expected? It seems to me they fall into the category of fun products.

Personally, I think just about everything Apple makes is pretty fun. What I can't quite swallow is the choice of the iCal icon as part of the invite. Last time it was drawn curtains which smacked of a theater--and 5G iPods were introduced. Could this just be an uninventive announcement, or is the iCal hint meaningful? I'm not sure what would be especially fun about iCal enhancements...unless it's used as a scheduler and integrated with some new media delivery service (movies?) or product that organizes or handles time-sensitive data.

I tend to the latter, just because Apple is that subtle.

Reminder that AppleInsider called an invite-only event to occur late this month, and that it would usher in new iPod accessories.

See: https://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/01/20060120013705.shtml

Very True! But also there were confirmations of the Thinksecret new Mini rumor which was supposedly to be introduced at SF but got "taken out" allegedly at the last moment.

I hope for a core duo mini with 3.5" RAID drives although something funny inside me tells me that Apple will find a way to "ruin" an excellent product by putting a really lame video card in it.....:(

Boombox (yawn)

Oh no, this does sound a lot like that iPod boombox thingy :( .

"Sam Bhavnani, an analyst at market researcher Current Analysis, said he thinks Apple may introduce a 17-inch MacBook Pro as well as a redesigned iBook with a 13-inch widescreen display."
I wish! I think Mr Bhavnani is sucking his thumb on this one!

"fun new products" =====>

iPod boombox & wirelessly updating: new + fun
vPod/VideoiPod: new + fun (BUT, it's so BIG it would be released by itself!)
Tablet: new + fun (WWDC or MACWORLD)
mini Media Centre: new + fun (WWDC or MACWORLD)
iBooks/MB: - + fun
MBP 13/17": - + -

This is definitely going to be iPod-iTunes related, wriggling back under the covers...

I guess we are going to find out what was NOT announced last time around when the Intel-based iMac and MacBook Pro were introduced.

Am I the only one who has been underwhelmed by previous Apple announcements like this?

I'm not expecting anything spectacular especially not with the catch line 'fun new products'. I would love to see new macs but I suspect it will be consumer software or ipod/itunes related... yet again.

Anything Significant with that Date and Apple? Just Currious

What kind of stuff has been released from these headquater parties? Just to make an assumption on what will come out. ;)

Two (well maybe three) things I really wanna see are:
1. Updated iPod Nano (More Space)
2. Mac Mini Media Center with built in iPod Dock
3. Discontinue the iPod Shuffle line
