it should be noted that Apple sent invitation to iLounge also. I think that implies that this is about some ipod product and not the macs.

I am leaning toward Apple boombox. with the new price drop I don't see the reason for Apple to revise shuffle lineups. maybe they will add a color or two but that seems to be about it.

A great formula for Apple is to debut a digital media product (be it iPod or something else) AND a Mac. The new iPod will pull all of Apple's new products that day to the front of the newspapers.

It worked like a charm at the October event - the 5G iPod makes the cover of TIME, and brings the new iMac with it...

K, give me an ipod/tablet that has all the technology we have been seeing in the patents recently. I would love to be able to type, listen to music, surf the web, on the go without buying a laptop

So buy a desktop!? :p

I agree with the iPod Video/Basic Tablet

Thin, decent screen, and durable (more than the nano at least). Has basic tablet function, and itunes with decent battery 4-6 hours video; playback 20+ iPod like...

Now the question is will it have a stylus or use touch?

Now for the dreaming...
Add FireWire 800 support
Add 120 Gigabyte Hard Drive
Airport Card for Wi-Fi (Maybe a new mobile spin-off of APEx)
Add Built in speakers...?
Software; iTunes, iCal, iNote, Address Book, Mail, Preview,...
Maybe add a dvd drive and have dvd player installed too...

Okay... back to reallity...
It will be new and it will definatly be consumer- I'd say without any doubt it will not be a Mac revision unless it's the "TiVo Killer" or "Tablet".

*Although an update to a mac may be announced it won't be the "Big" "Fun" announcement.

I disagree, and not for the reason you specified. The reason that the Intel PowerMacs are going to be the last Macs to go Intel is because not everything will be universal binary for quite some time yet. One of the big players here is Adobe. All apps will not be universal until CS3 comes out, and that will not be for quite a while yet.

So unless Adobe announces CS3 is out next week (which it won't) this will not be the content of the announcement.

Plus, universal binaries aren't exactly "fun". :p ;)

I guess you misunderstood me. I know that not all apps will be Universal for a while. I was speaking specifically of Apple's own Pro apps such as Logic Express/Pro, Final Cut Studio, Motion, etc. Those programs are slated to go Universal in March, right? I was merely saying that maybe Apple would use this event to annouce that, but because this event is suppose to be for a "fun new product" I was doubting it.

To add to your thought, another reason why the PowerMacs are going to be the last machines to go Intel is because they're the ones that are the least in need of an upgrade. Everything else, with the exception of the iMac, is/was stuck on the G4 proc., and thus are/were in dire need of a major upgrade.

Obviously it's going to be an built-in osx version of Minesweeper. A dagger into Microsoft's heart. ;)

These are the Things that i think may come out:

iPhone
Mac Pro
Mac Mini
Mac Book
Mac Book Pro - 12" + 17"
Airport Express with Video
'Real' Video iPod
Mac Tablet

A Peek at Mac OS X 10.5 - But That will be at the WWDC

Yep, after re-reading it, I understand now - my bad. ;)

Absolutely - Apple will need to wait for one hell of a chip to compete with the quad beast they currently have. It would look bad if Apple released "new" Intel PowerMacs which didn't benchmark as high as their current "old" PPC offerings. ;) But, I have faith that Conroe/Woodcrest will do the job quite adequately when the time comes this fall.

Know what would be very fun?
If they were like: These are the new iPod socks!!

And they would be serious about that, and tell much about them for 30 min, then be like. Oh, and we're also releasing this thing *and shows then the 17" MacBook Pro + the MacBook 13"*

But are new laptop models really that fun?
No, that's why this isn't going to be new laptops, I'll bet money on it, that Market Researcher guy should be ashamed of himself really for spewing that crap.

Expect iPod accessories like Speakers and the "iBoomBox" or whatever it is called. Perhaps some other "new" accessories we can't predict. The Mac Mini is I would say a slight possibility.

What we won't see: iBook, 17" Powerbook.

new headphones

Steve will release noiseless headphones. So, if you are concerned about hearing loss from your iPod, use the new noiseless headphones. Sure to stop all iPod hearing loss problems. :D It's part of the new iPod with no volume control and then battery life is finally not an issue.

In all reality though I hope it is the macbook/ibook.

Yeah, Steve Jobs can be a bastard at times, I wouldn't put it past him... ;)
