Another update from Apple!

Dear Loser,

Due to an unexpectedly high demand, we are unable to ship the following item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:

IMAC 27"/CTO will now deliver on or before October 26.

At this time, we do not have more specific information. Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.

That's so similar to the order I placed on the 13th, and mine is still processing! Ah!

Sorry to hear that! I noticed on Apple's BTO site that if I chose the Magic Mouse instead of the trackpad, then the computer shows up 3 days quicker. Weird. But your delay is strange. Have you called Apple CS to see what is holding things up? I'd complain and tell them you have "friends" who have already gotten their BTOs. Maybe they can give you something for you trouble including looking into the issue.

I was going to wait til I got my shipping notice to post, but I may as well post right now. As you can see, I'm heading into the final hours. I tried talking to the chat, but they pretty much just copy and paste explanations of the current and next step.

Apple's BTO seem to have no rhyme or reason with respect to how orders are prioritized, which is why I would never pay for expedited delivery. It looks like you did your best to figure out what is going on. But have you actually spoken to a rep over the phone? From personal experience, I've gotten better service when I actually placed a real call and requested an escalation to a supervisor. Be firm but polite and you may get some much needed answers. Please keep us all posted. Good luck!

It took 24hr from somewhere in CA to somewhere else in CA. FedEx! How you can send it to me by end of today?

Yeah they actually did give me free Next Day Shipping yesterday, so I'm good. It'll probably come in the next couple of days.

What was your exact config? I'm hoping we can pinpoint which part is causing the delay.

I've noticed if you try to build a new iMac now, and take the default config, you can get it tomorrow. Adding one of these two things jacks the estimated delivery date from tomorrow to Oct 27-Nov 3 (depending on whether you pay for fast shipping). The two things are:
  • 4.0GHz i7 upgrade
  • M395X w/4GB video memory
Those two I suspect are the culprits. I ordered both. :)

We can rule 4.0GHz i7 upgrade out because people on page 1 have had theirs shipped/delivered.

True, but I don't know if you can TRULY rule it out. The agent I talked with last night told me that there's three places in California that are building them (not to mention other locations). If we're talking about a delay due to parts availability, one place could have more than another, and depending on where your order got sent, that could make things behave differently. I doubt all the locations building these things are drawing from the same "pile of parts" as such.

Also, Palantas, from Page 3 ordered both. However, his computer shipped from Ireland... the elves could just be more productive there.

That would fit in with my theory above as to it being impacted by where specifically any one particular iMac is being assembled.

so it's confirmed that these arent built in China anymore?

Someone on an earlier page said an agent told them it was being made in the same city he lives in, made a comment about picking it up. :)

My agent told me last night it was being made in one of the three California locations they have for iMac assembly, but couldn't tell me which specific one.

I ordered my iMac with a trackpad, it has been delayed. Not sure if it's related to the trackpad or not.

"Still Processing"

i7 with 395. Ordered on 10/14. Chicago.

Update:
Was supposed to ship 10/20 at the latest and arrive between 10/22 and 10/24 via standard "free" shipping.

Amazingly, they got it shipped out last night at 11:30pm from Freemont, CA and must have upgraded my shipping because its scheduled to be delivered tomorrow (10/22).

Very sorry to those that are experiencing delays but I'm convinced that Apple is really working overtime to get these things out. Anybody else have Apple upgrade their shipping for free?
