14 day refund

I'm not sure about nationwide policies, but here in oklahoma it is a minumum of 30 days.
Some retailers may TELL you that they have a no refund or 14 day refund policy but legally you could challenge that for the mandatory 30 days. Even when buying a car.
Most people don't know that.

What I know is that you have 14 days to return an item and get full credit if unopened or be charged 10% re-stocking fees if opened.

But there is also a 30-day price guarantee where if new updates come you are offered two options as I stated above.

id rather see an update @ WWDC with Montevina.

What's with all these Intel buzzmonikers that in the end show little marginal advantage over the previous technologies?

Last time I checked people were all about Penryn because it was the next great thing.

Fact: you got only some more battery life and a marginal increase in performance, NOTHING else...it's about time to stop drooling over new Intel "architectures" that, in the end, have LITTLE real-life impact on how you do your work...

Besides, these silly Intel names sound as if they all came from some "bright" mind working at their Israeli tech plant...Yonah? Merom? Nehalem?

What is gonna come next? Balullah? Moses? Or perhaps ערבים ?

p.s.: oh yeah, there is also the other batch of silly names such as Eaglelake, Yorkfield & Wolfdale...just as appealing as tobacco brands...

I bet they make a big upgrade to the graphics card (GPU).....I am thinking a 512mb card on the 24' extreme model.

Faster video cards will be even better. I think Apple should either improve all iMac cards across the line, or drop the 2400 low-end 20" iMac altogether & sell the 2600 PRO 20" iMac at the low-end price. But if no faster cards, a matt screen option (I know it's unlikely) would definitely compel me to buy.

That aside, I'm ready to buy an updated Mini as soon as they're out - so here's hoping for simultaneous updates.

Because the first mac to get Blu Ray would be the Mac Pro's, and that won't happen for a while because it'll seriously damage Apple's new HD movie rental service :p

GPU update PLEASE!! :(

Updates are always exciting. I can almost not wait till next week to see what Apple brings out. Hopefully there is something to boast about. Either way, ill be at the Apple store checking them out, just for kicks.

No, the iMac will not be the first to get montevina, skipping penryn. I mean, nothing wrong with dreaming, but I'm trying to put in a little dose of reality here. Bumped iMacs will simply have penryn processors and 320GB HD on the base and 400GB on the upper models.

I tend to think you're right... but on the other hand, if that's all they are doing, why did it take this long? They coulda done that a month ago.

The new displays are garbage. If Apple doesn't address this with this update then there's absolutely nothing to get excited about.

In your opinion. In *my* opinion the new displays are gorgeous. My mom has a 20" Al iMac and everyone who sees it loves the screen.

Your parents should look for a new computer support person.

Clearly their current one is incompetent if the only solution is to reformat bi-weekly.
What the H? I'm the one doing the job

The computer is a piece of trash, always has been, it's had problems since day one, I can't even install Linux on that machine anymore

I kind of agree. On the current 20" iMac you have to be just in the right position in front of the display to have the colors right. I like the shiny glass and how bright they get, but the viewing angle and colors aren't as good as on the white Intel iMacs. Haven't seen them side-to-side though.

Get Dell Ultrasharp displays. the 2005 and 2007 models are great. I wish there was a way to hook up two 1850x1050 to my Mac Mini. I mean, the GMA950 in my Macbook can drive the built-in display and a big external. :-(

Check out http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/support/mac/home.php . You can not use the three monitor version but you can hook up two monitors to the Mac mini.

I'm hoping for a Mac mini update.

I'm hoping for a Mac mini update. I'm not buying one until they update it.

I'm also waiting for the 3G chip in the iPhone. I wish a GPS module would be put in it too but I've heard (but not looked for) that there is a GPS device you can plug into the iPhone or someone is working on it.

Expectations too high ?

I've been reading this thread and some others on the topic of IMac upgrade.

There is a lot of people whose expectations are way out of range.

The IMac is technically midrange between MB and MBP.

Hoping for better specs than MBP for 500$ less is not very realistic.

I hope they stop using cheap displays. I went back to a white 2.16GHz C2D because the new ones are horrible.

I Agree! When they made that change I was really disappointed. Glad I got one of the 1st gen intels with a matte screen also!

so who thinks they are working with intel to get the montevina a few months before anyone else, like they did with the quad cores in the macpros? I think that they will just wait until the montevina is done and put it in, I just don't see them putting in a penryn for 8-12 weeks. Does anybody we will see the introduction of blu-ray this summer? I think by wwdc we will here something.

I just hope it is slightly smaller(below the screen where there is just a big plate and the apple logo), has a quad core option, supports 2 4gb chips of ram, and has at least the 8800gt 512mb, and a blu-ray drive. and maybe move the microphone from right by the speakers. but, only time will tell. I love my iMac for gaming, but there is alot of room for upgrade before it would be a higher end gaming computer.:apple:

i am thinking we will just see a processor update for now though, if anything at all.

I could be wrong, but I would not expect montevina until Feb.

'gen intels' with a matte screen also!

:D That last sentence just made me chuckle ! :D (no offense meant)

Had to agree with an earlier post'r though - 7 months at the top end has been great - I remember all the rumour talk of replacements back in December '07 so to get to April '08 has been sweet!

tasty news! it's about time is an understatement... i'll be a little disappointed if it's not the upcoming intel chipset, as weeks away... i do hope Apple gets preferential treatment by Intel, otherwise this update will be as pointless as corrosive needle...

Nooo! Is my ability to brag about how I have the newest iMac model about to come to an end!? Are they going to make my iMac look like crap!?
They won't change the look... don't worry.

I was referring more to the inner beauty. I don't expect them to change the looks of the iMac so soon. But you know... what if the next similarly priced iMac will be able to play StarCraft II when that's released while this one won't (at a decent frame rate anyways...)

Why not just wait till montevina? Or, if they do update now, would they just wait until Nehalem to upgrade again? It seems stupid to go with penryn now, and then update in a few months, since montevina is due out this summer. Just my $.02

Because, as was rehashed over and over with the MacBook and MacBook Pro updates, Intel is stopping production of the older processors. If you don't have a supply of processors, you're really screwed if you sell a lot of computers. Therefore, just plop a new hard drive, motherboard, and CPU in there and you've got a nice little update. Contrary to fictional belief, not every computer update is supposed to be every single component getting improved.

I was going to buy a car today, but I've decided to wait because there's a rumor that in six weeks it will go 2mph faster.
Or maybe I should wait till November when I hear there will be a new chip installed in the fuel system that will allow an extra 0.2 miles to the gallon.
