strange things

http://www.apple.com/sg/

special one day apple sales going on today ... usually only on thanks giving day. (this is singapore apple online store, not sure about other countries)

It looks like lots of iMac inventory there (may be macbook not sold as expected during holiday season)

I just finished watching Macworld 2009, there was no talk of upgrades of the iMac!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! Does that mean no upgrades??

Man this really sucks! My Macbook is in the process of being sold, I hate waiting, but I think its worth waiting for the new iMacs to come in. Its overpriced already as it is, I'd like to get the best I can get for this year.

Core 2 Quad LP is coming soon.

The new iMac seems capable to produce just as much eye-candy as other brand-name computers, which come pre-installed with either the latest Windows, Linux distros + Compiz, or other fancy systems.

Nice to see it's official.

Nothing official in there.

Pricing is off vs the Intel price list (even in the column "avant" = before)
Core i7-965 is $999 not $990 etc...

Official launch/price cuts will be on January 18, just a few days away from getting the real deal.

All I want is a Mac with a $1500 price point and a 2.4+ GHz quad-core processor, and the option to add a GOOD video-card. I will upgrade it myself to 8GB of ram. There is no reason Apple can not do a base model quad-core system for $1250-$1500, when Dell/HP offer base level quad-core systems for as low as $499 when they have sales.

I just want the hardware and the OSX operating system - they can keep the built-in display - I just need the processing power, and don't have the budget for a Mac Pro.

these are desktop Quad core low power CPUS rite? are we sure apple going from mobile mother board to desktop mother board?

I still think apple may stick to Mobile Quad Core CPUs ...

Too expensive and not powerful enough. If the iMac sticks to mobile CPUs instead of adopting a small form factor platform, it will drop progressively further and further behind desktops.

As core count becomes a bigger factor, the iMac will end up with half the cores or less compared to a standard desktop.

Been that way since the late PowerPC 970 era. Apple going mobile and LGA775 only carries over the issue over on Intel.

PowerPC 7447/8 vs. Pentium-M was a the start on laptops.

Mobile quad cores can't compete with desktops, they can't even really compete with the current iMacs.

I remember news and lot prices per/1,000 back in December.

HP/Voodoo already has a machine sporting these.

I think Dell are also using them in their XPS 24" that came out mid December. Intel just never talked about them and there was almost no information on them. I get the impression these are, as Digitimes reported, purely aimed at all-in-one manufacturers rather than the general public.

Mobile quad cores can't compete with desktops, nor really old iMacs.
Please tell me more.

Lets pit a desktop and mobile Core 2 with identical specifications except for socket and thermal profiles.

The Q8200 is a different processor.

You've misunderstood my point. Mobile quad core can't compete with desktop quad cores or current iMacs (for most people), or the $600-$100 quad core systems from other vendors because of the speed differences and prices.

The Q8200 is a different processor.

Just because Dell refer to it as the Q8200 that doesn't mean it isn't the 65W version.

Make that US$450 Q6600 system.

It is the plain vanilla 95W TDP Q8200.

Quad Core mobile are they different socket compared to the dual cores on the iMac now?

What is the rumored nVidia mother board (for iMac) supports?

Cheaper and better iMac is always welcome, may be the issue with Thermal envelope and graphic cards heat issue as well ...
