I went to an apple store in my town here in The Netherlands and one of the workers (well actually I think it's the owner but I'm not sure) there ensured me that there weren't any updates coming for the iMacs for the next six months, at least. To me this sounds a bit off, considering the current iMacs have been around for a while now. However, who would purchase another iMac there if he told his customers there'd be a new iMac within a few months?

It is the plain vanilla 95W TDP Q8200.

Anything to back this up? Not looking for confrontation, I'm just interested to find a souce other than Dell's product pages.

Quad Core mobile are they different socket compared to the dual cores on the iMac now?

What is the rumored nVidia mother board (for iMac) supports?

Cheaper and better iMac is always welcome, may be the issue with Thermal envelope and graphic cards heat issue as well ...

The mobile quad cores are the same socket, but they aren't such a good deal when compared to the desktop versions.

Mobile quads:
QX9300 2.53GHz $1,038
Q9100 2.26GHz $851
Q9000 2.00GHz $348

Low TDP desktop quads:
Q9550s 2.83GHz ~$370
Q9400s 2.66GHz ~$320
Q8200s 2.33GHz ~$245

As for the chipset I think the desktop version of the 9400 that is found in the notebooks is all but guaranteed.

thanks Umbongo.

So, if apple needs to go desktop version CPUs, surely there is some kinda of case re-design coming, but if they stick to mobile CPUs they can keep the design, mother board and just up the CPUs

I think Dell are also using them in their XPS 24" that came out mid December. Intel just never talked about them and there was almost no information on them. I get the impression these are, as Digitimes reported, purely aimed at all-in-one manufacturers rather than the general public.

The XPS One uses the desktop platform. I think using small form factor chips for the next revision is likely though.

Im still waiting, but if I get a good deal on refurbished I might just go ahead with it. The only thing that im excited about is the LED Monitor, IF that even happens, I mean I don't know how expensive LED's are, if they are expensive I don't think we'll see them in the lowend iMacs..

Some pretty inexpensive LED backlit displays were introduced at CES, so I don't thin its the hurdle it was a couple months back.

The independent Apple Store Owners tend to find out exactly the same time we do. From the Apple Press Release being reported on MacRumors.

The Apple AppleStore Managers may find out sooner like the day before but I don't know any of them.

After seeing the new Unibody Macbook, definitely gonna wait for the new iMacs..

Just to add to the rumours, from what I have heard a new iMac or Mini will come out on the 29th.

If it doesn't I'm just gonna buy an iMac anyway as I'm fed up with waiting!

THEY'RE ALREADY UNIBODY. Plus, IT'S A DESKTOP.

And they already have the same design as the laptops! They won't be changing the design; they're UNIFYING it!

Yeah i meant because of the new LED screens, im hoping the iMac will also have it, and not to mention the GPU upgrade.. and memory :]..

Oh, well, yeah; they'll have LED-backlit screens.

It has been shown that they will have the nVidia 9400M, too, but I EXPECT them to have another chip above that (like the MacBook Pro).

Won't they have the 9600M?, im pretty sure the 9400M is slower then HD2600Pro..

EDIT: oh nvm u mentioned it :p

Im guessing the new iMacs wont have the i7 processors? I think that mainly because of the pricing on i7's.. far too expensive atm.

Expense has nothing to do with it, the mobile CPUs used now aren't cheap. The i7 and the x58 chipset are designed for high end desktops and have power requirements to match. Used in the iMac, the back would probably melt.

Maybe you should take a look at the price of the Core i7 920 vs. a mobile T/P Series processor on NewEgg as well.

As it has been said, i7 is only in its desktop variants right now.

One more sacrifice to form over function.

Cooling a Core i7 in a mini-tower, however, is much easier.

Plus you have expansion, and it's not an all-in-one.

Price difference new Imac?

Any ideas as to what you all think the price these new Imacs will sell for? I am so tempted to order the 3.06 right now , I can live without the newest and greatest, but to have a significant decrease in price few days after I order, thats what holds me back. Thoughts? Thanks
