Any ideas as to what you all think the price these new Imacs will sell for? I am so tempted to order the 3.06 right now , I can live without the newest and greatest, but to have a significant decrease in price few days after I order, thats what holds me back. Thoughts? Thanks

I'd say you should way, the higher end iMacs might have a 9800GT.. Imo worth the wait, and not to mention LED screens which everyone says are a whole lot better and they last longer.. Im actually gonna be getting one too, and and am waiting on the updates =/

price will remain the same, more features/upgrades will be added ... with LED back light LCD screen expected i think the will keep the price same

but on the low end it may go down to $999 with nVidia integrated graphics (then again 20" LED lcd display may cost higher than normal LCD display)

I wonder if the 24" imac will lose the better screen and switch to a TN panel for lower cost. This also differentiates it from the Cinema 24" LCD. Just a gut feeling.

Either way I'm tired of waiting

Because the Lord God Jobs decrees that it be thin?

Let's see - if the new Imac had an Atom processor, no Ethernet, no 1394 (of course), no optical, a mini-PCIe SSD like a netbook - it could be less than .75" thick.

Wow. And nearly useless.

Hmmmm. Considering the Mini rumour, I wonder....

New Imac 24' price

Thanks for the response. I'm only interested in the 24' Imac. Once the new ones come out, do you think the 3.06 price will drop significantly? I found a really great deal on one right now, but hate to buy it now then new Imacs come out this week for about same price as current models!! I hope new ones soon like by end of month....don't think I can wait til April.

I know it's hard to hold out (I waited about 3/4 of a year before I bought my iMac - I waited for the Aluminum release).

We know they are coming, and soon. A week, a month or two...who knows, but it will not be that long. You will get a much better machine for the price. The graphics update, the LED screen, larger HDD, probably 4 gigs of ram standard, and possibly Quad-Core in the 24." I would wait.

No updates yet :(..

Well technically there is another what? 13 days of January. But given that it would likely be a Tuesday, that would mean this week - 20th - or next week - 27th. I wonder if it is likely? I think more likely in March personally, perhaps with the Mini update too?

Why torture us like this?? I wish they would just announce what is coming and when.

Still wondering what everything thinks the price of the new Imac will be.

I'm waiting until the summer before purchasing a new iMac. I am hoping for blu-ray but was reading that the current OS does not support blu-ray. Is this correct?

Sorry for my lack of being informed, but why is it again that the iMac will be released when-only-god-knows other than that is will be released on a Tuesday?? Is that the trend? That Apple releases new products on Tuesdays?

Apple releases all of their important products on Tuesday and has done so for nearly a decade.

Same price. Google "Osborne Effect".

I think the "Osborne effect" is overrated. Remember, what really killed Osborne was other factors, not the "effect."

Sure, sales of an existing product might be hurt by announcing a future version. But they might just as well be helped if customers realize that the future version won't be coming out for a considerable amount of time. How many times have you seen people here say something like "I've been waiting six months (or a year) to buy an XXX Mac"? They might have bought an existing model months earlier if they knew they would have to wait. And how many people get frustrated from waiting and not having a clue of Apple's future plans so they switch to Dell or some other Windows box?

In general, giving out selected information about the product roadmap can spur sales plus create anticipation that keeps customers loyal. And if you're talking about selling into the corporate market, an understanding of a company's roadmap is often critical for purchasing decisions. Apple's paranoia about revealing any future product plans goes way beyond what is necessary or beneficial.

Except for the last iMac update, which was a Wednesday, but it was a holiday weekend (I think Memorial Day if I remember correctly).
