And why is it that Apple releases products on a Tuesday? Is it part of their logistics or what? It just seems odd that they would only release products on a Tuesday - what makes Tuesday so special?? :p

Just curious..

well this is my first post here and probably not a popular one , because i hope they dont get released anytime soon . Because my i mac is arriving tomorow !! lol

Wish i could of waited for the new ones but i had an accident with my macbook so forced a quick replacement . Decided to go wit the i mac instead this time seeing as my macbook never left my house !!

stu.

The top-end iMac already has a 8800 GTS, so a 9800 GPU with the update is likely. Quad-core CPUs for at least the higher-end ones are possible too.
Unfortunately that's not quite accurate.

Due to Nvidia's bizarre naming conventions, a 9800 GPU is pretty much a rebadged 8800 GPU, as it uses the same G92 core. For example, the 8800 and 9800 GT GPUs have the same number of stream processors, texture units and raster operator units, all clocked at the same rates. In Nvidia's case, a bigger model number doesn't mean it's a faster GPU.

Also, the high-end iMac actually has an 8800 GS GPU, which is not the same as a GTS. As you can see from this chart, the GTS is one performance tier higher than the GS GPU used in the high-end iMac.

Of course, the 8800 GS still far faster than the alternative. 7 performance tiers higher than the Radeon HD 2600 PRO is quite a jump in performance …

That's the Mobility HD 2600 XT and nVidia 8800M GTS in the current iMacs.

What's the chance of new Macs the same day the free world gets a new leader? :D

Zero.

If new models come out within 30 days, just exchange it and pay the restocking fee.

14 days. 30 days if the price changes.

I'm guessing if you want to send back an iMac to the online Apple Store within the 14 days (assuming they were to release new models right after you buy) you can't take it out the box or take the plastic off the keyboard etc., let alone run the install discs/use it.
Is that right?

Not unless you want to pay 10% of the purchase price on restocking.

Shirley you can't be serious. Blu-ray will be on a decline by 2015.

I AM serious. And don't call me Shirley.

400GB Blu-ray disks go into production in 2012, a 1TB disk is expected for 2013. They are backwards compatible with existing players.

Please read this thread for WHY Blu-ray will take so long to get to Macs and WHY it will still be around in 2015.

Why torture us like this?? I wish they would just announce what is coming and when.

Still wondering what everything thinks the price of the new Imac will be.

The general price points for the iMac have been pretty solid for about 4 years now. So unless your buying in another currency (like me) then it's a pretty safe bet. If you are in another country then it's going depend on what the market is going to do.

The top of the line will either have the best processor or there will be BTO option above it to keep the prices on point.

Well that's what history tells us (One of the many joys of being the token "IT guy" in a design office, watch iMac prices for deals)
