Did not buy an iPad 1st Gen because know Apple well enough that the 2nd Gen is always the one they should have released in the first place. Then did not buy a 2nd Gen because I knew I would regret not having the Retina Display. So I think I am going to be Happy.
Every time I hear someone claiming this kind of nonsense, it makes me wonder. Every company knows that if you miss an opportunity to sell, the opportunity might be gone.
I wonder how many were sold...?

My iPad shipped from Nashville TN on Friday so apple definetely had them on hand in the US. So it's very possible they sold out of first US shipments and are awaiting the next flights to come
In.
This is crap! No 4G or LTE? Are they mad? Here in Europe we are a head of the US in mobile technology and not to have LTE that works here is ridiculous. This ipad isn't the big jump we were expecting, and although sales will be high they could have been higher if they had thought about there biggest market and not just their home market. Lets hope Samsung get their act together as this is now to silly to have one player dominating, also Apple seem to have all their eggs going into one basket these days?
It's a massive overgeneralisation, but you could split iPad owners into three groups:
Those who need the newest items and upgrade every year.
Those who like to keep fairly up to date, but don't necessarily buy every year, maybe every other year.
Those who will keep their iPad as long as they can before spending the money on a new one.
I suspect that the second group is quite a significant proportion. I am one myself, as I upgrade my stuff every other year. These people didn't buy an iPad2, but they are buying now.

Ordered a 32GB and 64GB..not sure which one to keep yet! Wahooooo I can't wait!
Dates slipped heavily here in Japan, too. Though Windows 8 looks interesting, there is nothing close to the iPad on the market right now.
At first glance there is, but then, try using one![]()
I think this year is a special case for the 'every other year' buyer. I've got an iPad 1, and ordered a 3, but with 1GB of RAM I think this one will have a much longer lifetime with me. And I think there's still huge growth going on as people see first hand how convenient they are. I immediately got it, two years ago, but that's because I loathe laptops. It's a massive overgeneralisation, but you could split iPad owners into three groups:

What is not real on any order from a reseller? So the original buyer is not keeping it, but somebody else. So? Its a sale, right?Keep in mind that some of these blow out numbers may not be real. There are many out there trying to turn a quick buck by buying up new iPads and selling them on eBay or in countries that won't get the device so soon.
However, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of interest in the new iPad I am sure. Personally ordered on one on the 7th and should get mine on Friday!
