WTF, sold out!? All that's different is the screen. People really want this thing for a screen? Wow, this country really has officially gone to hell. I'm a mac guy but I would not waste my money on a new iPad when it's the same as my iPad 2 only it has a better screen. People are crazy. Sold out? If people will buy this, I bet I could piss on an iPad & sell it. People will buy anything. Awful.

Yeah, it will suck to enjoy the screen on my first ipad. Not everyone has one.

Who sent you here, and how much are they paying you?

Or maybe people have been holding out for the retina display iPad....

I certainly have, after the iPhone 4, I wouldn't stand for the regular resolution of the iPad 1 and 2.

I have been wanting an iPad for a long time, but knew the retina display was on the way. So piss away on your iPad! but just make sure it's your GF's panty liner first
!

Wow, sitting outside for a week to get an ipad.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people are

A) So wealthy they can skip a weeks worth of work in order to be in line so they can spend $600+

B) Have such meaningless lives that they've got nothing better to do than wait for the next shiny 'gadget'. The same gadget we'll all have (If we want one) within a month or two.
The same gadget, that will seem 'old' not very long from now. Creating yet another impulse for them to try to fulfill their lives with yet another gadget.
The difference is, we'll have spent this week actually living our lives.

You left off a third possibility -- that they are in line to buy multiple iPads that will be resold for twice the retail price.

Poor Farhad caught no end of flak from the Applehaters who comment on pretty much every tech article that mentions the company.

Thing is, he's right on the poor prospects for would-be iPad competitors. Its been pretty clear, for at least the last year, that a) the iPad was gaining incredible momentum and b) Apple's competitors were wasting their time with Flash and other gimmicks. People were still arguing here about how desperately important Flash was - right up until the day even Adobe threw in the towel on Flash for mobile.

As far as full-sized iPad competition, I think Windows 8 is going to be the last chance HP and Dell and the rest have. But at this point, no matter how incredible Windows for Tablets® is, its just not going to matter. Getting Excel or Word to (sort of) work on a keyboardless ARM-powered tablet is going to mean a whole lot less than a catalog of 200,000-plus great Apps.

Longer term, though, I think Apple may have to be a little bit careful. If it comes to dominate both the smartphone and the tablet market, it may be wise to cede just a little marketshare via limited licensing of some of its IP, if only to deflect the unwanted attentions of AntiTrust regulators in the US and Europe.

I ordered mine early morning on the 8th. It said the 16th for delivery. Still no shipping conf. # Anybody else?

Glad I pre ordered, can't wait until Friday and have a shiny new toy at my doorsteps AND not having to miss work ;)

The thing I don't understand is that if they're so hardcore they will camp at an apple store, why not just order it online? There was a huge window to order this thing for first day delivery.

Well, if its only the screen it would be worth it for me, if the difference is similar to iPhone 3GS vs iPhone 4, it should be quite, well, to quote Apple "amaizing"

But it is not only the screen. Its also vastly faster conection speeds (for me going from 3-7Mbs to stable 35-40Mbs) and a double size Battery. I am hoping that without the need for the power hog LTE the Battery life will improve over my iPad2 (and that is impressive)
Since they kept the prices, its only a small amount of money to pay after selling your old iPad2. I think, worth the money.

Mmm... If the battery size was doubled to compensate for the higher power requirement of LTE, should we expect about 20 hours of battery life when using only WiFi or in Airplane Mode?
Does the WiFi-only Model also have that same big battery or a smaller battery that provides 10 hours of use?

Some people want the "experience" in waiting in line......ya not sure why either. I could think of different ways I rather spend my time.

I had the iPad but got rid of it after a few months as I simpy didn't find it a useful device and have always hoped Apple would continue to really push the tablet. But the iPad 2 and now the iPad are just bumps in spec rather than a true functionality improvements.
For me, the apps are what make the iPad useful/functional, and these "just bumps in spec" are allowing the apps to do some fairly phenomenal things.

Such huge demand has to be from various sources...iPad 1 owners ready to upgrade, iPad 2 owners who want the new tech...and the new comers!

And developers who need to test on the latest hardware. As a developer, I'm pretty much forced into buying a new iPad every year.

Did not buy an iPad 1st Gen because know Apple well enough that the 2nd Gen is always the one they should have released in the first place. Then did not buy a 2nd Gen because I knew I would regret not having the Retina Display. So I think I am going to be Happy.
So in other words, you can't think of what's coming in the next iPad, so you haven't been able to psyche yourself out of buying this one. :D

Actually, yes. The screen is a good enough reason for me, and frankly the only reason I jumped on it. Consider the following:

It has taken Apple three generations of iPad, three generations of AppleTV and five generations of iPhone to join the rest of the media-savvy world in the Nerdvana that is 1080p HD. Up until now, I've been nursing countless open source and experimental solutions to bring my 1080p (.mkv) content to my home theater -Plex, XMB, aftermarket players on my phone, DLNA servers and clients on Sony PS3, etc. And while most of these solutions are quite passable, none of them affords me the simplicity of managing an entire library of 1080p content across all of my devices the way iTunes did with standard def content before it. I only want to keep ONE file for each of my movies, and I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to take it on the road with me when I travel. Big screen, Laptop, Tablet, and Phone: ONE file, ONE resolution, no compromises.

That's certainly worth the upgrade to me.

If your apps are any good and you are making lots of money selling them, I wouldn't consider claiming that you are "forced" to buy a new iPad every year.

EDIT: Lol, I have just checked you out, and if you are who I think you maybe, then your apps are very good. So, I would imagine that you were not complaining about being forced to buy a new iPad every year.

I ordered my iPad 3 about 3 hours after the keynote address on March 7 and it's suppose to be delivered this Friday. But, from all the stuff that I have ordered from Apple over the last several years, it always comes 1 day early and from FedEx. This time it's coming from UPS. I live in Louisville, KY which has one of the main hubs for UPS which is only 3 or 4 miles away. I'm not counting on a Thursday delivery but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me either. I suppose if they run out of storage space at their hub they're going to have to start delivering early …. maybe wishful thinking. Regardless, I'm leaving a pre-signed UPS notice on my front door on Wednesday just to play it safe. I learned my lesson several years ago when I was sitting on the throne when the doorbell rang and I couldn't get to it fast enough. I found a FedEx notice on the door saying to pick it up or call for re-delivery. Sometimes Mother Nature calls at the worst times!!

BTW, my Cyber Acoustics iPad 3 case ( IC-1003BK) is suppose to be delivered today via USPS …. no signature required …. thank goodness! But, I'll have it with no iPad 3 to put into it lol!!! Oh well ….

I use GoodPlayer to directly access my movies on my networked hard drives when I'm home, and AirVideo when I'm away so it optimizes the speed and quality.

There's one heck of a large group of college graduates that couldn't find jobs this past year, and are still living with and off their parents. There's nothing better to do with their time than socialize with each other in front of an Apple store. Who knows, they might even get on TV for 2 seconds. Wow!

As someone who had been ridiculed for this very thing ( living with my parents after college because I could not find a job), I resent this comment. Especially the assumption that they are mooching ( you have no idea if they are living off their own savings from a previous job or have a part time job) It is now the unemployed's fault that employers won't hire them? Some people on here are extremely ignorant.

No, I wasn't complaining. :) I was just pointing out another reason why someone would get one (to be honest, I'm perfectly happy with the iPad 2. I don't *need* the iPad 3. But mine is getting here, along with the 1080P Apple TV I was waiting for, on Friday).

There was a time when we were selling over 1000 copies a day. But that was before a bunch of "me-too" apps that do less, but have better marketing, showed up. The whole value-for-money proposition in the App Store is completely in crazy alien territory.
