I thought the 12.9 had a Tru Tone display already?

Don't remember exactly, but I do know there's a bit of fragmentation between the 9.7" & 12" iPad Pros where each has a few features the other doesn't. Kinda annoying. As I've said before, I wish the only differences between the iPads, or between the iPhones was just the screen size. Don't add additional features to the big one in order to upsell, and definitely don't mix and match features. For me, having the only difference be the screen size makes sense. Keeps the product line clean and simple.

What difference does it make. Surface is killing it. Who wants an iPad?;)

Visited the new Jax Apple Store (moved to a bigger space). Very busy as usual and plenty of folks at the iPad tables. I myself was looking at a Mini for my granddaughter. A block away, the Microsoft store, the place was empty.

I will wait for the new devices before buying. Depending on the feature set, I may give my granddaughter my iPad Air, which is still working great and buy a new device for myself.

I understand that bezel free is likely the next step, but maybe I'm just missing something: How do you hold the device without a bezel without clicking on things?

If you ask me, the iPad Mini already lost its purpose when they released a 5.5" iPhone more than 2 years ago.

Nah, iPad mini is the absolute best form factor for what most people use an iPad for: browsing in bed or watching TV. I was a skeptic at first and had an Air. Got my hands on a mini and that was that. Everyone I know who's tried a mini has switched to it as well, and most of them have a iPhone Plus.

WWDC wouldn't make sense to begin with and isn't hardware based primarily as it has been in the past. It's primarily for the developers and iOS/MacOS/WatchOS demo's.

The Keynote is likely ending this month or first week of April.
People keep saying that but WWDC has included many major and minor hardware announcements in the past so it's not out of the picture for a hardware announcement there. However, I don't see it happening for iPads.

I hope they don't get stingy with new features. Too often with iPads, Apple decides which new model people need to buy, and they pile all the new glitz in that one and barely touch the others. I want a 12" iPad, but some of the rumors make me worried they're making this 10.5" thing the premium one, giving it features denied to the 12". I guess none of us knows yet...

Sounds good to me. I have an Air 2 that's doing just fine, but damn do I want an Apple Pencil. Last year the Pro 9.7" was just too much for me to spend on, especially after having the Air 2 for less than a year at that point, but it's another year gone by and man do I want a new iPad. The 10.5" Pro sounds like a perfect tablet. Here's my prediction:

-iPad: $299 (9.7", 32GB, True Tone Display, A9X Chip, 8MP Camera, No Pencil/Smart Connector)
-iPad Pro 7.9": $399 (32, 128, 256GB, True Tone Display, A9X Chip, 12MP Camera, Pencil and Smart Connector)
-iPad Pro 10.5": $599 (32, 128, 256GB, True Tone Display + No Bezel Design, A10X Chip, 12MP Camera, Pencil and Smart Connector)
-iPad Pro 12.9": $799 (32, 128, 256GB, True Tone Display + Shrunken Physical Size (?), A10X Chip, 12MP Picture, Pencil and Smart Connector)

I think Apple is finally moving away from model year numbers, and will start this with the iPad lineup. It's cleaner: iPad and iPad Pro. I foresee Apple doing the same with iPhone: iPhone SE, iPhone, iPhone Pro.

Exactly. In the past. And announcements and product releases are two different things.

Hardware during WWDC has completely faded away from that. That was primarily during Jobs era. WWDC's primary focus has nothing to do with hardware. It's soley about the developers and OS. And there will be no chance of iPads during June when the conference is held, that's a hugely populated event.

Why? The Mini cellular is basically a 7.9" iPhone at 50% less.
More and more people are using VoIP and dropping their regular cell plans. Try it, the mini can be a great phone, especially when BT paired with your car.

7.1 - 7.9" iPad Pro mini
7.2 - 9.7" iPad Pro
7.3 - 12.9" iPad Pro
7.4 - 10.5" iPad Pro

The iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 will remain with their current model identifiers as the budget models. iPad mini 2 thankfully put out of its misery and retired.

Maybe swap out the 10.5" and 12.9" identifiers depending on how they internally perceive them which they position as the "flagship" model.

Totally disagree. The Mini may be better if you use it on the go, but most people have an iPhone x Plus for that. For browsing and watching TV in BED, I don't see a single reasonable argument against going with 10".

I just hope they hurry up and do something soon. I'm in the market for a 12.9" iPad Pro and I will be damned if I'm buying one now only to have an "event" announced next week. Then again I would have my iPad anyways since lead times are nearly one month.

I don't believe in an 10" iPad.

"We at Apple believe, that everyone deserves a Pro device and that's why we announce that every iPad is a pro device from now on."
That's it new processors, Touch ID 2 and maybe a bit of a design change

4 billion a year in R&D and they come up with the same crap. What are they doing with all that money.
To be fair, R&D spend has never been an indicator of Apple's innovative output. They have never even been in the top 10 in R&D spend. When they intro'd the iPhone their spend was less than a billion and they didn't hit the billion dollar mark until 2010. They incrementally spent more every year, with last year hitting 8.1 billion. Spending money ain't the problem. They just need new ideas.

Unless they are updating IOS 11 to be brand spanking new interface and separating phones vs tablets I cannot see any reason for me to upgrade my iPad Pro. It handles every app out there.. it's the interface that makes the tablet nearly useless. There's so much more they can do with the bigger screen yet they choose to focus mainly on hardware enhancements.

I must be the only one. I need replacements for my old iMac, my old mini and my old macbook air. They have all been years without a refresh. With my 6s+ iPhone I just do not need an iPad (nor a new iPhone). I must be the only one though.

Meanwhile, you somehow believe whining about other's whining on an iOS related topic is tolerable? Interesting concept...

Back on the topic, I just hope that Apple still release a new iPad mini...my iPad 3 is in dire need to be replaced.
The spamming of every article with whining-about-Mac comments has gotten completely out of control.
