I must be the only one. I need replacements for my old iMac, my old mini and my old macbook air. They have all been years without a refresh. With my 6s+ iPhone I just do not need an iPad (nor a new iPhone). I must be the only one though.

I would love a new Mac Mini too. I don't really want a giant iMac taking up space anymore and a Mini with a smaller monitor would be perfect, but I have the feeling they're being discontinued and I'm not buying an almost three year old computer.

Actually I suspect the Mini and the MacBook Air are both getting cut, but we'll see.

Time to see if the iPad Mini survives a chopping block. I got my iPad Mini 4 on sale and it fits my needs while offering a nice size.

Yeah, my iPad mini 4 serves me well. Of course, I don't use it as much as I originally thought I would, but I definitely appreciate the larger screen for playing games and watching videos. As for its replacement someday, a redesigned iPad Pro 7.9" with 3D Touch, OLED, pen support, integrated home button and ranged wireless charging would be nice. Maybe an optimized version of iOS that takes better advantage of the larger screen as well. Maybe next year?

On the one hand, a bezel-less iPad is stupid, because holding that would require fingers on the screen... on the other hand, I want one!!

New? Or Mildly refreshed? I don't think a mild refresh this time is going to help the iPad division hit their sales target this year.

Of course all Apple has to do is offer a Jet Brick iPad and most consumer will think its all brand new buy them like crazy.

Perhaps if they come out with an iPad with a separate emoji touch bar consumers will also buy them like mad.

One is silver and white. The other is grey and black. Totally different. Want black, buy a 1st gen iPad mini or an iPhone 7. Otherwise quit crying or they'll come out with another damn female color and leave us with nothing.

They're not going to update anything. They're just going to drop the space grey and add jet white, jet pink and jet purple.

What is a female colour? Are you intending getting married to one?

I don't see sales improving either (at current price points). Even with a significant iOS update. Quality app support just isn't there besides the usual suspects.

However, if I could plug an ipad pro into a mac and have some killer wacom like functionality...

For most, an ipad is basically what you give to the kiddos to quiet them down.

I agree in rhetoric.

What a bezel-free tablet would would require is some innovation to have the OS detect the difference between touch along the side of screen just to hold it vs intentional interactive touch. I would say it is very possible to determine both, especially if the screen has 3D Touch because holding the iPad usually means more touch force then swiping or gestures. I mean a firm, persistent touch on the edge of the screen can be easily ignored if the software was smart enough.

However, this again requires Innovation, with a capital I, and Apple is not investing much into a losing product like iPad these days. Instead they will "innovate", with a lower case i, and simply change the iPad colors or remove the headphone jack or something naive like that.

In the fall maybe, but only Tim and crew know for sure. Think there salvaging all the aluminum for repairs / patchs on the space ship ;)

4 billion a year in R&D and they come up with the same crap. What are they doing with all that money.
You're not too aware of the technologies in their products are you? The displays in iPads are so much more advanced than in ANY competitors tablets. That's where their R&D goes. Little things you never notice that make the product more pleasant.

Also, unless it's on purpose, why wouldn't Apple spoof their user agent?

Except that makes no sense whatsoever.

The 10.5" and 9.7" Pro are the same product. The former being the new-technology-evolution of the latter. No reason whatsoever for both to exist.

The "Air 3" will probably be a very slightly tweaked Air 2 config (if at all), at $100 less than today. A very respectable offering in the lineup.

The 12.9" Pro will likely be updated internally with the same chip as being deployed in the 10.5", and perhaps a Tru Tone display with Wide Color.

But the 10.5" will be the only truly "new" technology product.

You are right, there is no reason for both a 9.7" and 10.5" Pro to exist, that's why I don't believe there will be a 10.5" iPad at all.

Didn't Apple talk about how the 12.9" iPad Pro screen was the same as two 9.7" iPad Air 2 next to each other? Wouldn't going to a new 10.5" screen mess that up?

Going from a 9.7" to a 10.5" screen and reducing bezels is going to do nothing but raise Apples cost, for a barely noticeable difference in screen real estate, as well as adding a new resolution for developers to deal with. It would make a lot more sense to keep the screen size the same and reduce the bezels to make the physical size of the iPad smaller. That would at least get them a reduction in weight and most likely cost as they would be using less material and have to do less machining to make the case. Apple could not care less if that means aftermarket case companies have to retool to make new cases.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think we will see three new 2017 iPad Pro in 12.9", 9.7" and 7.9" sizes(that's why I'm surprised there is 4 seen here and not 3 or 6). Tru-tone screen, Apple Pencil support, 4 speakers, and USB 3 speeds on all of them.

The iPad Air 2 and Mini 2 will be discontinued. The 2015 iPad Pro 12.9", 2016 iPad Pro 9.7" and iPad Mini 4 will stick around and get price cuts.

i think its normal to release the 12.9" wifi only+LTE and 9.7" wifi+LTE without event, and the 10.5" new redesign imac and mac mini at the event later this month, right?

A Ipad mini refresh would be nice, would be even nicer if they realized Samsung tablets are all over the 2.5 mil sq foot workplace I am at, and priced to them to at least be looked at instead of being laughed out of the purchasing department due to cost at the mere mention of them. Surface Pro's get more traction than Ipad's do. Samsung invested very heavily in industrial capable mdm and device compatability.

According to one of these recent articles quoting Apple's most recent sales quarter, the iPad Mini is one of the better-selling iPad models, easily outselling (in unit sales) the iPad Pros. So that means Apple would predictably do the stupid thing and kill off the Mini. o_O

I don't think we'll see a bezel-free 10.5" iPad Pro alongside a 12.9" iPad Pro with bezels. It just doesn't make sense to have two iPad Pro models with different form factors.

My guess is we will see a minor refresh of the 9.7" and 12.9" iPad Pros models in March/April (only with an event if there's something else ready to announce at the same time). The two models will be brought into line with internal updates, but retain the same external design.

We'll then get new bezel-free iPads in September alongside the new bezel-free iPhone models. The bezel-free model could be the new iPad Air, as the Air is intended to be a smaller and more compact design, which is exactly what they will achieve with a bezel-free model.

No 6,1 for the iPad mini 4 successor. Unless Apple skips 6,x for the next 7.9" iPad or ends that size all together.

You just brought up a really good point. If you go by the most recent identifiers this points to a Mini Pro and 9.7" Pro.

iPad 5,1 - Mini 4 Wifi
iPad 5,2 - Mini 4 LTE
iPad 5,3 - Air 2 WiFi
iPad 5,4 - Air 2 LTE

iPad 6,3 - 9.7" Pro WiFi
iPad 6,4 - 9.7" Pro LTE

iPad 6,7 - 12.9" Pro WiFi
iPad 6,8 - 12.9" Pro LTE

That pattern would point to:

iPad 7,1 - 7.9" Pro WiFi
iPad 7,2 - 7.9" Pro LTE
iPad 7,3 - 9.7" Pro WiFi
iPad 7,4 - 9.7" Pro LTE
iPad 7,7 - 12.9" Pro WiFi
iPad 7,8 - 12.9" Pro LTE

Maybe they aren't testing or just haven't seen the 12.9" Pro Identifiers yet?

I understand that bezel free is likely the next step, but maybe I'm just missing something: How do you hold the device without a bezel without clicking on things?
I think a few are forgetting Apple has already built technology into all iPads that reject unwanted input on the sides of the screen for a few years now. So its not an issue and hasn't been for a while.

It won' t be entirely without a bezel.
It can' t. They have to put a (forcetouch?) homebutton with touchid somewhere.
Apple can' t build the touchid inscreen yet, at least until september.
But in the next 3 years when ipad gets oled i suspect the ipad will be all screen without bezel, but the sides and the bottom will be used for somekind of touchbar, virtual bezel buttons, function area.
