I don't usually like those posts that start with "Steve Jobs would never have..."

But in this one case, I think it is accurate. This is inexcusable. Someone in senior product leadership should have stopped this from happening. I didn't always agree with (or generally like) Steve Jobs, but he would have NEVER allowed this. And he would have been right to stop it.

WTF Apple.

I use Apple products for decades now, but we (the consumers, pro or non pro) should really stop buying those things at the moment. Its the only way to force them to end those ridiculous products and their choices. As long as we buy them they'll make them. If everybody would use their phone, Mac or iPad for 5 years... I worshiped this company for their "being different" against IBM and Microsoft but it makes me sad to see that they have become what they fought. Its on us to tell them that this is not why we came to Apple in the first place.

Wow, they had an opportunity to finally get rid of the joke first-gen Pencil and it's ridiculous charging with the long-awaited flat-sided design... and instead they keep it... and add a dongle... and raise the price in the UK by over 50% on the previous gen.

Apple, you're really trying my patience these days.

Effectively this means the base iPad doesn't have pencil support. If you want to use a pencil or think you might want to in the future you should buy an Air.

This is probably the biggest joke of the 10th Generation iPad. You move it to this design language, make a Magic Keyboard folio, and increase the price….. but heaven forbid that you can use a second generation Apple Pencil with it. Glad I moved away from the iPad and back to the Mac.

Because this

wasn't stupid enough already, they add an adapter.

Dang. When I read there was a new adapter, I thought it would have been a USB-C male to Lightning female adapter...so you could still plug the pencil into the iPad to charge. You're telling me people also need to carry a USB-C cable to plug into the adapter?

If Apple had gone that route, it could have also been used to convert our existing lightning cables to USB-C for those that might have multiple devices using both kinds, but only want to carry one cable to charge.

I don't even need this (have a iPad Pro and Apple Pencil 2), but this and the new 10th gen iPad puts a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not even excited for the upcoming M2 MacBook Pros anymore.

It’s obviously feature rationing, but understandable given it has the same 10.9-inch display as the Air. Otherwise, it’s too similar.
It may be too similar, but this is a product segmentation joke that's jumped the shark- not only is it ridiculously stingy, it's also a huge waste of plastic and a totally inefficient use of the product line. Just allow the base iPad to cannibalize the iPad Air and upgrade the Air with some new feature. Steve wasn't afraid to do this.

This is perhaps the worst decision Apple has ever made... Like, that is bonkers. One step in one direction then 2 steps back elsewhere. Sometimes it's 3 steps back, like this example here. I remember when Apple was so against "fragmentation" but this is fragmenting beyond anything I've ever seen.

EDIT: Like, don't release it if it's not ready. Clearly this model iPad wasn't "ready" since it's missing the magnetic bar to connect and charge the Apple Pencil 2. Complete waste of resources and plastic like someone else said.

It's so annoying trying to tell people about the iPad or iPhone or MacBook or whatever else and having to throw in a million "but" and other caveats.

Sorry but what a bad move. Should have been 2nd gen pencil given the price increase. That and the price made me pass on this for an air instead. Which was their plan all along I suppose?
Not with this type of display. (no laminate)
