After using Apple products for almost 30 years....I am done.

I am tired of paying $3k-4k for a middling laptop, I am done dealing with phones (and now tablets) that pursue thinness over function, I am done supporting a company that doesn't even exert the effort to keep their "pro" products up to spec, and I am so over them purposely making everything non user-replaceable/upgradable while charging prohibitively expensive prices for upgrade options...

They made the iPad Pro so damn thin that the camera lens protrudes pretty far out, and they couldn't even put an audio jack on it. This is the end result, an expensive toy that bends like a piece of cardboard. What's more, his scratch tests on the display and camera lens reveal that Apple isn't even using materials of a high enough quality to be commensurate with the price.

Of ALL the complaints against Apple the "thin at all costs" has the most truth to it. I get the laptop angle, but for iMacs, or even phones and iPads : why ????

My new 12.9” iPad feels far more fragile than my 1st gen 12.9” and certainly more fragile than the 1st original iPad.

My only concern with the older iPads were to avoid dropping them. The newer iPad Pro needs to be placed carefully into my soft briefcase to avoid items in other compartments from placing any pressure onto the surface.

A large flat item placed alongside a smaller item can easily generate high orthogonal forces.

The older iPads felt much sturdier and didn’t require such careful placement for storage.

I really don't understand this "bendgate" issue. One might think that when you buy something very expansive.. you'd be careful with it. Well...not even careful, just not careless.

I think it's about people not willing to take responsibility for their careless actions and use that as an opportunity to whine about Apple. Very juvenile behavior.

I do not want to use a thick or heavy iPhone or iPad. What an awful user experience that would be.

For those that enjoy using thick/heavy phones and tablets, there are certainly devices made by other companies that will bring joy to your heart.

This new iPad Pro is definitely more weak than ever before. Even a drop from knee hight will not only break the glass but also bend the frame. Do some investigation and also look at normally very pro Apple sites to come make a conclusion. To say its juvenile behavior is the same as Phil Schiller saying the camera lens of your iPhone is made out of sapphire.
If sapphire was a medicine it would be a homeopathic one, lol.

If you’re rich this is a non issue. Amazing how many complainers there are
So can I assume you're rich and don't care about durability? If so... you're the one apple is targeting these days.

Don’t buy something you can’t afford, simple as that

If you are prone to dropping expensive electronic products, you should probably consider other options. Maybe Amazon, HP, Sanyo, etc have a tablet that can be reliably dropped on concrete from above your knee?

Speaking only for myself, I'm willing to take responsibility for problems I cause.

You know, what comes to mind is that one part of the September event, where Apple mentioned that they're going to be using recycled material to build their products, and also mentioning that this will in no way affect device performance and build. I wonder if this coupled with terrible engineering has lead on to this (considering crap like the butterfly keyboard is still being used for latest models and all).

Also very surprising to see "well if you buy an expensive product you need to handle it with care", "it wasn't designed for that accidental thing that could happen", "if you're rich it's not a problem", "if you put a thick case on it it's a non-issue" comments. Defending a seriously expensive device.

I know you like the device, and you like the company, but maybe accepting that there are flaws in it is a healthier option, especially since the device isn't being taken away from you. At worst, the problem will be fixed because of the vocal backlash. So what is the point of denying this stuff? Why take it so personally?

If you can bend a wrench, you can bend an iPad.
only if they are made in china..... oh wait
[doublepost=1542467273][/doublepost]
potential for bending if you're acting like a ******* isn't something i'm worried about.

I do feel strange seeing the display flex though as my older iPads were solid in comparison.
If you use it at home no prob. But if you use it on the go and put it in a backpack w books and other stuff it can suffer. That bend break point was far too easy.

The 7 stages of Apple:

1. Anticipation
2. Disappointment
3. Unboxing
4. Teardown
5. Bend-gate
6. Submission
7. GOTO 1

In this case, it's not a phone, so if you put it in your back pocket and sit on it, you probably are holding it wrong.

However, still, why make the thing thinner than the camera lens?

Apple is just so full of lies and contradictions these days, to name a few:

They brag about the strides they make to the environment but how come all their new product aren't upgradable, repairable and glued together? Aren't durability, repairability and upgradability together with recyclable materials the best way to sustain our environment and to leave the planet less damages than we found it? I wish some reporter would ask Tim Cook this question!

There is less sapphire in the lens cover than there would be sapphire in a medicine if it were on homeopathic base.

I really wish anyone dares to ask Tim Cook those questions when he's bragging again in interviews.

I made a supplement if that's okay for you...

I think your position has "jumped the shark". Now that you know what Apple is about, you as a consumer have a decision to make... buy their product or not. To continue to complain about them and demand that they do what you want them to do so that you can buy their product is quite an odd approach. At its root is a misplaced sense of entitlement.

Why not move on to something that DOES meet your requirements and needs? The issue of the bendability of the new iPad Pro has been revealed... now what?

I think some posters have difficulty with the notion that one can criticize and find faults with an item while still being overall satisfied.

I don't care what you think and you can't possibly know what I know. I prefer you to speak for yourself and let met make my own decisions, thank you! If you don't agree, I'm fine with that, but let me just express my personal opinions.

You mean test it? You have to test things to figure out if they are durable or not. Purposely bending it is how you purposely test it. On purpose....with...your...hands...or a mechanical bending device.... How else would you test how easily something bends? Ask it to bend? Stare at it till it bends? They crash cars ON PURPOSE all the time. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT? LOL get out of here with that logic.
That's not real world testing.

I’m not getting all up in arms about Apple’s supposed QU downfall. JerryRig’s complaint that an iPad can’t withstand someone SITTING on it is sheer stupidity.

On the other hand, that doesn’t mean Apple couldn’t learn from this and make their iPad designs a little hardier. I do see opportunities to reinforce the long edges and use stronger materials. I’m actually much more bothered by the scratchable “sapphire” they boast about. Even though I’ve never taken a photo with an iPad, some people do I suppose and the protruding lens should live up to Apple’s claims. I remember when Apple mobile tech could just be assumed to beat all the competish in drop & durability tests, etc. Not to much anymore, although admittedly the competish has backed away from plastic.

Yep, I hate heavy or thick. I rather have it bend easily. If you happen to bend it then it’s just like a curved display. Very cool and excellent user experience. Nothing brings joy to the heart like brand new bent iPad.

This is real. Display model in apple store today was bent..

It’s very possible that specific bent iPad was ‘tested’ its durability/strength by Customers who were _intentionally_ trying to bend it. I mean, iPad demo models are handled thousands of times and abused. It wouldn’t surprise me if that is in fact the reason why it’s bent.
