Right here is the major issue. The cutout for the pencil charging is poorly supported by very very thin aluminum.

The new iPads are probably part cheap plastic (for charging the pencil with out wires). Bad design.

Apple fan shocked by how fragile the iPad is

I was thinking of upgrading to the New iPad pro from my old original 9.7 iPad pro, but, this video has given me second thoughts, the fact it damages from a waist high drop is pretty worrying.

I think anyone who buys these iPads really should buy a protective case for it too.

What is the point of Apple bragging that that have made these iPads so thin when you would really need to put them in a case that will double their thickness to ensure that they dont get damaged.

Honestly I love MacRumors, but this is an awful article. My money is prone to being spent. It’s called having self control. The iPad Pro can bend if you FORCE it to. It’s not gonna just bend from normal use.

Why is this a story? Very disappointing.

It actually is still really funny. Only a thin skinned Apple fan boy will try to deny that.

Think about it. Steve Jobs. The CEO of a multi-billion dollar company releases what is supposed to be the most advanced smartphone ever made. Except it has one very obvious yet fatal design flaw. And what does Mr Job's do when confronted about that issue? -He accuses the users. Lol hwut? Because obviously THAT is the only logical conclusion.

I can somehow imagine Steve ranting about this in his office. "Well if those stupid f***ing customers would just hold the god damned device the way WEEE designed it, there wouldnt be a problem. f***s sake, god these idiots we deal with. I swear one day man, just one day I am gonna lose it".

And YES, I do believe the words were "you are holding it wrong". Yes he elaborated explaining something about being left handed, or holding it with your pinky in the wrong spot or something. But the general message was "well just dont f***ing hold it that way, problem solved dumba**".

Anyways so yes I do personally think it gets funnier every time.

I believe the poster was referring to how Steve Jobs was misquoted. I believe he said in an email reply to a customer who said putting his hand on the steel bands caused signal degradation to "avoid holding it in that way"

https://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/apple-responds-over-iphone-4-reception-issues-youre-holding-th/

Jobs is commonly misquoted as saying "You're holding it wrong"

"Normal use" could involve the odd stress here and there. Videos like show just how incredibly easily the device deforms under pressure.

If nothing else, it shows the need to have extra care to make sure it isn't sat on because it was left on the couch, dropped, or placed in a bag where it experiences stress.

Get an expensive piece of electronics and abuse it until it fails. Makes absolutely no sense unless he's doing this to prove he's an immature clown. Judging by all the childish comments on the YouTube page associated with this video, he's a success.

He does have 2.7M subscribers, so he's doing something that people seem to like. I've never heard of him before, though.

Showing product durability is actually very useful since there's no way to test this for yourself without ruining your own device, and the manufacturer doesn't specify durability at all.

Anybody know if these iPads use that 6000 series aluminum?
No, that's only for Apple Watch Sports. That alloy is crazy expensive.
[doublepost=1542419813][/doublepost]iPhone 5 had the same issue, they reinforced them in the next generations by putting in supporting frames.

Am I the only person who was irrationally annoyed that he claimed that you can't replace the Apple Pencil tip?

Uh, yes, you can. You just need to unscrew it -- it doesn't rip out by sticking your nail between the tip and the pencil body.

I'm thinking anyone that bends a i pad or i phone has more money than brains. Anything will break with enough force.
I’m thinking anyone that would make another one of these pointless “anything bends” comments has a screw loose. This is bigger than just bending something by force. This is whether it can even survive in a backpack and why so many people are seeing bent iPads through normal use. It’s part of a larger discussion about how these are built

I only used a thin rubber case with my 9.7” iPad Pro for holding the pencil. Otherwise, I have never dropped my iPad or come close to damaging it.

All other things equal, a thinner device is more easily held and more portable. I’ll take my chances.

The point is that it should bend easily.......push Apple Care where margins are tasty. I love Apple fans.

No iPad or iPhone has ever actually been too thick. No one outside of Apple HQ has ever said, "sure, this year's iPhone/iPad is nice, but what I really desire for next year's model is for it to be thinner". Yet they continue to crazily chase thinness.

Too thick is subjective. But I had an original iPad and it was pretty thick. It was half an inch thick. The next iPad was 0.34” thick. That was a noticeable difference and much appreciated. The old 3G phones were fairly thick too. I liked the thinner 5S when I upgraded. However, I agree that Apple seems to push thinness over strength resulting in a product that isn’t as good overall as it should be.

How does purposely trying to break it prove otherwise?
You mean test it? You have to test things to figure out if they are durable or not. Purposely bending it is how you purposely test it. On purpose....with...your...hands...or a mechanical bending device.... How else would you test how easily something bends? Ask it to bend? Stare at it till it bends? They crash cars ON PURPOSE all the time. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT? LOL get out of here with that logic.

So I had the iPad Pro 10.5 and my iPad never bent, in fact I didn't even know it could (probably because I didn't try to bend it) nor did I know that was an issue people were having. I've had the new 12.9inch iPad Pro and it hasn't bent or shown any signs of bending being an issue. We could all complain about Apple's decisions but at the end of the day if we spend the money we should take care of our devices. Don't want your tablet to bend then dont try to bend!
