I am very surprised they said it will go for a repair! i think you might of got a rookie dealing with you phone call.

You should call them back and request an exchange!

I have a problem with 4 dead pixels and the lady i spoke to gave me the option of having it replaced in 2-3 weeks when they come available, Going to a store to have it replaced and she would reserve one in store for me or a complete refund.

I opted for the exchange in store where i can examine the screen before i leave!

Apart from that i am chuffed to bits with it.

She seemed so yes. She originally did ask me if I wanted it replacing, then at the end of the call she told me I would be sent a box to send it back in, something I though Apple never did.

Then this morning I got an email saying it would be repaired!

If I'm right, you get 1 replacement anyway when you buy an Apple product if you arent happy with it?

Although, I'm fairly certain the distance selling regulations have me covered anyway. I think the mighty Apple would back down if I had to resort to contacting Trading Standards.

I've been using my new iPad and am loving it.

My screen is slightly yellow, and has some bleeding but it doesn't really bother me under normal use.

My concern is that it does heat up at the bottom left and don't know if this is normal. I have been reading other say theirs stays cool.

Is this heating normal?

The heat is normal.

Its probably down to the new GPU. The amount of work it has to do to keep the iPad running so smoothly at such a high resolution must be phenomenal.

Since its 3 months old they might not fix it for free if that's what you're hoping for. Did the screen bleeding just start happening or did it happen from the get go?

My iPhone 4S screen had a speck of dust in it and my Apple store didn't buy it that it was a defect because I reported it to them 8 days after I got my phone. 3 months seems a little too long of a time.

Huh?why? One year warranty, right? It was like that from day one. It's covered under warranty, customer service told me. I just need to know how the process goes for people without a store nearby.

Matt

Found a dead pixel from the unit I bought at Best Buy. The bby is now out of iPads. I'm hoping Apple will replace it with a trip to the genius bar. Thoughts?

There was a ~0.75 inch scratch on the back as I noticed this morning. I went to the local Apple Store and they exchanged it. Since AT&T doesn't offer LTE service in the Seattle-metro area, noone was interested in those models. May be I should switch to Verizon instead.

I got my iPad ( 16gb wifi 4g Verizon white) at the Apple Store on launch. Today ( a few days later ) I noticed a long line going down my screen. That has turned into two lines next to each other on the screen. I'm not upset because these are just some of the things that can happen when buying new products on launch. I'm considering swapping it for the 32 Verizon black because I can't freaking make up my mind. They both look so nice!

So in the interest of figuring out whether this quality control is normal, I had a good look at the iPad 3 that arrived from Apple on Friday. A nice stuck pixel bang smack in the middle of the screen. Not a big deal, but still...

So, took it to the Apple Store, and exchanged it. First unit we didn't even turn on, since it had a quarter-inch scratch down the back of the casing. Genius was apologetic, and grabbed me another. Second unit had some "debris" of some sort under the screen. Genius was once again apologetic. Third unit had a stuck pixel right in the middle of the display. You'd be amazed how easy it is to see a stuck pixel on such a pixel-dense screen! Genius, once again, apologized. Fourth unit had aluminum scraped off the edge of the iPad where the black rubber gasket meets the black part of the screen glass. I didn't even get a chance to notice this, since the Genius pointed it out to me when he removed it from the box!

At this point, I was a bit frustrated, but went for one more. This last one had a stuck pixel in the bottom right corner (at least it was out of the way, right?), so I took it and left. Definitely, at this point, disappointed in the quality control.

I get home this evening, and get a chance to really use the thing, and notice quite easily that the left of the screen is, for lack of a better word, piss yellow, and the right is quite considerably bluer. I can say for a fact the first iPad 3 we had here had a pretty consistently uniform screen, so this is a real downer.

I'm not drawing any conclusions from this, but I did go through 5 units, plus my own unit that arrived Friday. I'm certainly not impressed...

My first iPad had a pretty nasty scratch on the bottom near the dock connector ( more like a gouge). I returned it and examined the new one at the store. It looked fine there but I noticed a tiny scratch when I got home. It's on the corner near the headphone jack. I also noticed that the protective plastic cover didn't cover that area. The rest of the iPad seems fine when it comes to pixels and such do I think I'll stick with this one.

So what is the best way to organise an exchange in the UK? I don't have a local store or AppleCare. I guess I can't get an express Replacement?

You guys are lucky, you at least have official Apple stores, in Denmark we only have resellers and they send it all to a local repair place, and they are not easy to work with, i had to get an iPhone send there 4 times and the manager from the shop call them before they could actually see that it had a huge misscolouration on the screen (not even the classic yellow tint) when i showed it at the store the manager was chocked how bad it was, but the repair shop said they where unable to find any faults.

So with these reports, im scared of getting one that is scratched, dented, pixel faults or worse, one with scratches on the screen from the factory, because i know it will be impossible to get a replacement because they will say i did it myself :(

So here's 'my iPad is not perfect' story (haven't heard anyone else report this):

When I tilt the iPad forward until it is almost horizontal, there is a thin sliver of bright light shining through at the bezel (right below the iSight camera). This is not backlight bleed (although my iPad does also have some minor bleed).

Of course I would never use the iPad from this angle, so who cares right? My OCD personality cares somewhat. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem with their new iPad?

Heres a picture of the little scratch/chip I was talking about on mine:

Still not sure if I plan to try and exchange it yet or not.

I've got the same tool mark/burr in roughly the same spot.

I've got an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow, aiming for a replacement. Hopefully I'll be able to update here with some good news.

Anyone else have any luck doing something similar?

Update 3/19: brought it into the Fashion Valley Apple Store, they exchanged it no questions asked. Well done Apple.

^^^^^^
please keep us posted, I have pretty much the same thing on my brand new iPad 3 and also have a genius appointment on Tuesday for (hopefully) a replacement.

My UK iPad 3 64gb 4g was perfect for the first day and a half, no dead pixels, light bleed and no yellow tint. But out of nowhere I now have a single dead pixel on the bottom, just towards the right of the home button :(

Took it to the Apple store in Cardiff which is an hours drive for me, genius noticed it and agreed to replace it on the spot, there was only one left of this model hoping all was ok, I set it up quickly, opened the mail app and what do I see, a nice black dead pixel on the bottom left  . The genius apologised and classed it as dead on arrival.

Apple is the only company that I get dead pixels on, I have had many screens ranging from TV's and phones from companies such as Samsung, LG, Sony plus many smartphones over the years such as HTC and others and not once have I had a bad screen. Apples quality control has nose dived massively.

Will have to take this iPad to comets where I bought and try and get a replacement of them when they get stock. I have 72hrs after the purchase date to get an instant replacement, after that I have to deal with Apple.

I had the same sort of scratch near the left where the top hinge of the smart cover goes. Wasnt anything major but once I noticed it I couldn't stop looking at it. Didn't have to make a Genius appointment. Just took it into a store and did an exchange. Easy peasy!

My new one is wonderful with no issues.

Sounds to me like Apple needs to spend some of their $100,000,000,000 of cash on hiring more quality control workers.

Anyone else getting really poor battery life, the same kind of usage with my iPad 1st gen got me just over 8 hours, now I'm barely getting 6....

Charged mine yesterday morning and its still on 61%. Not heavy use but have been using it quite often.

Or the free one 0800 048 0408.

Thanks, used this to arrange a replacement. Glad I did as the call took about 35 minutes in total. If have received order confirmation of the replacement which the advisor assured me would be a priority fulfilment. My current iPad will be collected in a day or two. Fingers crossed I get a good 'un.
