It seems really wrong that Apple are expecting people to return iPads before you can get a new one due to the 2-3 wait.

I know that doesn't have to be the case as I'm allowed to keep mine until the new one arrives.

Maybe it depends who you speak to?

There is no 2-3 week wait like for pre-orders. It will simply be the time it takes for them sending you a return box and label and you sending back to them before they ship.

NOTE: If you have Apple Care, you can do an "express replacement" which is just a few days or less.

reading this thread scares me..

lol. There are always threads like this when a new product comes out. I remember becoming extremely indecisive on buying the newest iPod Touch back when it was released because there was a thread like this one, talking about dead pixels, recessed home button, etc. You shouldn't worry too much though.

In the UK there is a 2-3 wait though. The return should have been collected within 48 hours of phoning... That's why it seems a bit unfair.

There are no issues with dead pixels and overheating. Having dead pixels on displays are more common for TVs and monitors but I have never had a dead pixel on an apple device.

As for overheating, there is a difference being warm and overheating. When something overheats it tends to operate slower then shuts down.

Hey guys.. just thought I would chime in.

Apple has great customer support.

When you ship 3 million (estimating here..) of an item.. there is going to be a TON of defective units.

Even at a .1% failure rate (which.. btw.. is absolutely unheard of) your looking at 3,000 faulty units.

It's fine, and it happens. No company in the world can avoid things like dust under the screen and slight flaws in the aluminum. It's inherent with the technology available today.

The GOOD news?? Apple will take care of you if your polite and persistent.

My iPad 2 I had replaced 3 times. I never ONCE had any issue, and apple issued me a 100$ gift card for my troubles (what troubles? Walked in and replaced 3 times.. had a new ipad in minutes).

Instead of freaking out.. USE your iPad. When you get a chance, stroll into apple and I can almost promise if your not a rude prick they'll get you a new iPad and you'll be on your way. Hell, I had geniuses letting me OPEN iPads and see if they were up to my standard, if they weren't they would go get me a new one.

Know why? Cause I was always polite and never ever rude. The staff didn't put dust under your screen, and it's not their fault. Be polite and they'll be cool with you.

Long rant.. lol

Decided to turn on a desk lamp and look at my screen with the display off. It appears that there is a big smudge under the glass and a streak also. I plan to get an exchange tomorrow. I always have had terrible luck with iDevices and dust, cracks, smudges in the screen. Surely they will replace it.

Went to my Apple store this morning. They replaced it without hesitation. Opened my new iPad and crossed my fingers. It looks perfect. Now time to enjoy it!

How does the returns process work? I have excessive screen bleed in my iPad 2 and want that fixed before I sell it. Will I need to ship it back to them first? Will they send me a box to sendin my iPad 2? I've never done this before.
No apple store near me, so I'll have to ship it.
Thanks,
Matt

Good luck you might go through 10 iPad 2 screens before finding a decent one.

Haha, not me. I'm doing this to be able to sell my iPad 2 as new, unused. That will be the buyers job. I just want to return this iPad 2 as its only 3 months old and then let the buyer turn it on, test, and buy. If he finds screen bleed on it, then that's between him and apple.

So, how does the process work? Will I call up and then they send me a box to put my iPad 2 in? How long would it take to get the new iPad 2 back?

Matt

Since its 3 months old they might not fix it for free if that's what you're hoping for. Did the screen bleeding just start happening or did it happen from the get go?

My iPhone 4S screen had a speck of dust in it and my Apple store didn't buy it that it was a defect because I reported it to them 8 days after I got my phone. 3 months seems a little too long of a time.

Tiny speck

This is what I got. I think it is a speck of dirt rather than dead pixels.

I got a replacement iPad because of crap under my screen today. Took 25 minutes after my appointment time to be seen but was smooth otherwise... until I had to deal with the incompetency at Verizon to get my data transferred over. I... yeah. Finally up and running again though and very pleased with the replacement. I had brought in my packaging so they just did a direct trade with me and gave me a sealed new iPad.

Wait, so are other people in the UK here having their iPads replaced or were you told to send it in for repair?

The woman on the phone told me that it would be sent in for repair, the day that I bought it!

Should I be phoning them up and demanding an actual replacement?

Do you guys run every piece of merchandise you buy through this much scrutiny? Y'all have a lot more free time than I do.

Turn on. Does it work? Yes. Done.

Having exchanged my iPad 2 4-5 times for backlight bleed, and reading this thread, I was pretty worried.

But I wanted to add a positive experience - my black 64GB WiFi iPad 3 looks great. The screen isn't yellow (yes, slightly warmer than iPad 2, but not much and absolutely within a normal range), no dead pixels and an acceptable level of light bleeding, much less than the "best" iPad 2 I ended up with and not too bad even at max brightness in a dark room. It does get slightly warm while syncing, but, again, I wouldn't have even commented on it had I not used an iPad 2.

Happy happy happy. Yes, mine is just a single case, but (so far) so are most of the complaints.

May I have some of your unspent fortunes so I can be just as care-free with expensive products?

Just return it and buy a new one. Damn a replacement.

I am very surprised they said it will go for a repair! i think you might of got a rookie dealing with you phone call.

You should call them back and request an exchange!

I have a problem with 4 dead pixels and the lady i spoke to gave me the option of having it replaced in 2-3 weeks when they come available, Going to a store to have it replaced and she would reserve one in store for me or a complete refund.

I opted for the exchange in store where i can examine the screen before i leave!

Apart from that i am chuffed to bits with it.

It's just funny to read adults whining like kids about scratches and dead pixels. No worries mate.

"We" the adults whining like kids about scratches and dead pixels are making Apple Corp very rich by buying inferior products which needs bringing to their attention as the issues will never get rectified and get worse if quality starts to slip!

If you bought a TV with dead pixels or half the screen yellow, you wouldnt accept it though would you?

I know some things are a bit OCD, but the price these things cost and the huge profit margin Apple has, you should at the very least expect a perfect screen. Personally I dont care about a scratch on the back or anything like that, as the screen is what you look at.

My first and second playbook's, both had perfect screens, same with my first iPhone 3GS, and 4 (second 4 has a very yellow screen). Infact every gadget or TV that I've owned, apart from Apple's iMac line, MacBook Pro's, and iPhone/iPads, have all had perfect LCD screens.

My current 3rd Gen iPad has me reaching for my PSP Go everytime I see the uneven screen!
