New iPad problems (dead pixels, overheating, scratched etc)

i got my iPad in the mail and it was perfect for 1 to 2 hours. then i noticed the back was getting very hot and the right half of the screen was dim. then the screen went out altogether and won't power on. i called apple and was on hold 3 or 4 different times while i talked to different people. they finally put me on with some iPad god guy

he told me it was a new problem and they could not ship me a new one right a way. they are going to ship me a box and i have to send my iPad in and then wait for them to ship me a new one.

needless to say i was not happy at all with that. so to calm me down he offered me a 6' iPad cord or a iPod shuffle lol. i told him what i thought of the iPod shuffle very bluntly. he then offered me a iPod nano. i could see this was going nowhere so i took it.

they said i should get the shipping box monday and then who knows how long until i get my new iPad :(

Apparently you are not near an Apple store, are you? I ask because you could just walk in and exchange it on the spot. Even though they are "sold out", most of the stores (I hear) keep some on hand for exchanges. I was able to exchange my iPad 2 last year this way....and it was even engraved!

Used mine for about 30 minutes, just downloading apps and cruising around the app store..and it's very warm left side, more on the bottom. I cant imagine how warm it will get inside a case....we'll see what happens.

Wow.
Sounds like QC is nonexistent on this launch.

It seems Apple was more concerned to publishing first week numbers to pump up their stock holdings rather than delay a product launch with a more finalized and perfect product we all expect from apple.

It's like apple is turning in to Microsoft. :(

Now I'm starting to worry if I should even buy an iMac when a refresh comes out.
I might be better off buying the current iMac model. At least I know it works reliably and bugs are worked out.

It's just a matter of time before some posts that their new iPad spontaneously combusts.

Heres a picture of the little scratch/chip I was talking about on mine:

Still not sure if I plan to try and exchange it yet or not.

Does anybody have a link to the pixel detector site?

Wow guess I'm lucky. Mine makes no heat that I can feel at least not just browsing, no dead pixels, doesn't look yellow and minimal light bleed. I'll count my blessings on this one

Help! Screen brightens simply by touching the back. Normal?

I started a thread with this exact post but thought it would also apply in this thread. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hello all,

This is my first iPad and so far I love it, with one exception. I hold the iPad with my left while typing with my right. Every time I apply a little pressure with either hand, the screen brightens, noticeably. When I release the pressure, it dims back down. Really weird.

If you're looking at the back of the iPad in a portrait view, the area that causes the change in brightness is from the Apple logo to the left edge. If pressed anywhere in that area, that is where the brightness occurs. Same goes for the front/screen of the iPad. Pressing anywhere else on the unit, brightness is not affected. Is this normal with previous iPads?

Also, I notice, while in portrait mode, about eight light bleeds (four on each side). Is this also another normality?

BTW my brightness is set to about 50%.

Thanks in advance for comments and assistance

Just played Real Racing 2 HD for about 10 minutes and the back was HOT..not burn my fingers hot but enough where I didnt want to hold it in that area for very long.

I have a phone call support set up for tomorrow....they will probably tell me to take it back to Best Buy.

Have had 3 units already white 64gb ATT, first one had a dent top by headphone jack, 2nd unit, big nick on the bottom.

3rd one, so far so good!:D

Same problem.

So much for the "best" customer service you can get eh?

Considering it has faults right out of the box, it should be replaced, no questions asked. I wish I'd brough up the whole distance selling regulations thing when I phoned them. But oh well. At least you got a free Nano!

If it comes back with exactly the same screen, just with a different display, I'll be absolutely raging.

I'd advise avoiding all iMac models until the WiFi issues are fixed, unless you use wired ofc.

I never had a problem with mine at first, then they released mandatory updates for the WiFi, which then started to cause problems. So basically Apple's "fixes" ended up breaking my WiFi. Every time I boot up it connects, but I get no internet, so have to turn WiFi off and on, then it wont auto connect. 30 mins later everything becomes unresponsive again, and I have to repeat the process.

These issues are non-existant when booted up in Windows, so its definitely still a major issue with OSX Lion.

No doubt Apple will brand the eventual fix and a main feature of Mountain Lion

Mine is perfect - LOVE the screen!

Only minor thing, it won't charge when plugged into the computer. It syncs and is recognized, but the battery status says "Not Charging". I can charge it using a regular outlet.

Googling around this seems to have been an issue before with older computers, but mine is not old (just bought in January) and it charges my ipod touch and my son's iphone fine. Seems to do with power coming from the USB port not being enough for what the iPad needs. Annoying since I'm used to charging while syncing or working at my comp, but not bad overall. Pretty awesome otherwise!

But then, with this being my first iPad, I'll ask the vets, should I be concerned?

No, nothing to be concerned about at all. I have a Mac Pro and it too will not charge the iPad. Has nothing to do with the computer, it can only output so much power from those ports. Some devices, like the iPad 3, require more power.

BTW, just so you know, this was also mentioned in several articles and reviews of the iPad. For the iPad 3, it's the larger battery size that requires more power.

It is the computer.

My iMac charges the new iPad perfectly fine. Apple computers made from 2011 onwards are able to charge iPads via USB, as they have enough dedicated power.

Its not down to increased power drain either, as Apple still uses the same power brick as previous iPads for wall charging ;)

The problem I have is serious and not due to overheating. At random times, even when on for just 5 minutes, the iPad will shut down all together and become unresponsive. It's not just the screen that goes dark, the power and everything goes off. Then, when you try to bring it back on by pressing the top power button nothing happens, same thing with the home button. It seems to stay in that state until you plug it into a power source, not just sync via your computer.

To say the least, very disappointed in it at this time. It seems like there are several serious issues here, not just one or two dead pixels and such. Apple seems to have rushed this out the door or their QC is REALLY slipping. Can't believe Steve would've not tried some sample units before shipping to make sure. All I know is this is NOT the Apple I know.

Going to have to call Apple Care, as mine is really in need of replacement. :(

I found one dead pixel on my screen. It really hasn't been a problem for me. In fact, I keep forgetting where it is. I thought it'd disappeared this morning. I had to turn the brightness up to full to find it again!

If you have a MagSafe charger or the older laptop chargers you can take the plug off the iPad charger and use the extension they include with laptop chargers. I keep one by my couch and one at my desk. Makes it easier to move the laptop if I need battery power as well.

Not sure what you mean??? Yes I have MagSafe charger.

Thx for suggestion.

I had a 64gb att version that was very hot within a minute of turning it on....there were also some bleed points along the entire left hand side of the device. I figured, this is probably normal or will calm down after a while....well, the more I started at the "PRETTY" screen the more pissed off I got seeing that bleed, not to mention how hot it was.

I went straight to the apple store and exchanged it out for a verizon version (mainly because of LTE being in my area and att nowhere near getting to my city), and this unit is perfect...sure it gets a little warm, but thats expected, but not HOT and the screen is 10 times better. By the way, Apple had PLENTY!

The current iMac models are the exception, all the other models I know of like the Mac Pro it applies to. You may or may not be correct about all 2011 Apple computers onward being able to power an iPad with more juice. But, we won't know until new Mac Pros are available.

Also, it's not the power plug I was referring to. The battery iteself is indeed much different and this has been mentioned in reviews and podcasts as to why most computers will not charge the iPad.

Did you exchange all of them at the apple store? I'm going to have take my second one back because of a white "hot spot". I was wondering if there is a limit.

My new iPad is blurry on the upper left corner. I'm not sure whats causing it to blur websites in that area only or if it will go away over time but its noticeable.

I'm debating on exchanging it.

Update, called Apple Care about my scratch, they are going to refund me £45. So an iPad 3 for £354, pretty good deal here in the UK :)

:apple: iPhone 4S 32GB White, iPad 3 16GB WiFi Black, iPad 2 16GB WiFi White, Shure SE425's :apple:

Called them they said: will come to you and take yours then will send you a new one or full refund.

What have you told them ?! they said this the only option.:(:(
