I was pretty upset because I bought the new iPad 15 days before the announcement which means I'll have to be at least one day without my iPad =P

Couldn't care less about Lightning since I don't own an iPhone (nor do I ever intend do).

I'm hoping Apple will upgrade to the A6(X?) + IGZO + keep the huge battery. A flash storage bump for everyone would be cool too. But that's probably a lot of wishful thinking =P

The worry is that a refresh, even if it's only the connector, will instantly devalue current new iPads by 40-50. THAT'S the problem.

Anyone looking for a new iPad in the used market is going to want the most up to date one, regardless how small the update.

An iPad refresh would be little more than total disrespect to recent new iPad purchasers, and I think they should offer a swap out to anyone who's bought one within the last month or so. Providing they do refresh of course.

Apple will give you a $50 gift card similar to what they did when they drop the price of the original iPhone and call it a day.....I don't think they are too worried...

I had replaced my original iPad when the new iPad came out back in March. Picked up a white 32GB on launch day. Now I find out that Apple is already going to refresh the new iPad next week? Come on.... Is it me or is anyone else bothered by this. Granted, I love advancements in technology just as much as everyone else. But to have my iPad deemed to be obsolete in a mere 7 months is crazy. Next thing I'll probably find out that there are certain Apps that won't run on the New (now old) iPad. :(

You do realize that by the time you bought your iPad 3...it was already outdated right?

It is kinda hard to keep up with apple devices, I'd just like to see them hold off come up with several new features and release a product with enough new features to warrant a upgrade. I can see how Samsung pokes fun in there ads, the déjà vu déjà vu déjà vu the app line comment and the earphone plugs in now at the bottom jab is pretty funny and true. You know at any moment that apples fandom could take a bad turn if the buyers feel that product quality doesn't live up to the days before Steve passed, the new iPod touch and more so nano didn't wow me the nano I think is flat out ugly just the iPhone scratching complaints purple halos unexplained consumption of data some ppl complaining about slow wifi speeds apple consumers have high standards and for the price they pay they should get what there paying for when your dealing in retail anything is possible I like apple devices and hope this never happens but it's possible

Use more punctuation, please.

And FYI, you don't have to "keep up" with Apple devices. That's a choice, not an obligation.

Hmm okay apple is completely reasonable, There's nothing wrong with selling a device holding back features then a couple months later release the same device with only a few new features that they could have added to the older model to begin with. You completely missed the meaning of my reply. I want apple to produce devices with all features included instead of only adding the bare minimum to device refreshes/updates. I think I'm in titled to feel this way I'm the consumer buying apple devices. They should focus more and listen to there customers feedback and it is frustrating when they do this. I like apple devices and if they could listen and meet the buyers needs I'd buy more from them bare minimum product updates are ridiculous and apple is too greedy stop nit picking about punctuation take that time and energy and put it to better use

punctuation and extra spaces makes reading a wall of text more bearable

Not bothered at all. I'll sell my "New iPad" for the "Newer iPad" so I can update to Lightning and an updated processor (assuming rumors are true). I'm just praying they go back to the thickness/weight of the iPad 2 so that it doesn't weigh down my SCOTTeVEST and camera bag so much.

If they do release an updated iPad, I say this just proves those who think Apple holds back features to sell a later model wrong. They could have waited and let the current model sell more....just keep these features back....but it's more important to Apple to have a certain uniformity across their line than it is to hold back features for another model.

heh heh, what about the consumers who want the latest upgrade and won't even buy an Ipad without them? So Apple should leave those users out in cold? It is bizzare argument that a manufacturer should wait on upgrade so consumer who bought it already don't get upset. Why not make it a 10 years update cycle? 1 year may work well for you but other may choose a 4 years or 5 years replace cycle and I want Apple to only release a new product when I am ready to buy it. See how bizarre the argument is?

I would say get over it, it is electronic and every piece of electronic is outdated the moment they launch. The next best gadget is around the corner. I have an Ipad 3 now and I think I will just sell it. There will be plenty of people who will pay top dollars for a user IPad 3..The real question is whether to upgrade to the new new Ipad or the Ipad mini.

Why are YOU letting it bother you?

Apple is about making money and anything they make will sell.

They could bring out the iPhone 6, tomorrow, and people would be sleeping outside the door!

There are other things to be "bothered" with!

the fact that they update products doesn't change your device at all, so it's illogical to care if they update it or not.
Actually, any updated product does affect the current product in terms of its resale value. It'll be interesting to see if in fact the switch to the lightning connecter makes current 3rd gen ipads more desirable in the secondary market due to all the legacy 30-pin accessories.

They are only going to upgrade the connector. Its not the end of the world. They will most likely say "oh yeah and the 3rd gen iPad will now ship with the new lightening connector" when talking about the connector on the iPad mini.

It actually makes sense to upgrade the Ipad now, rather than the iphone. An ipad is something people can and will buy for Christmas. Therefore, having the latest and greatest prior to it is indeed very smart.

To the contrary, it's the iPhone that should probably wait until April to be updated.

You're kidding right? The new ipad weighs a whopping 51 grams (1.8 ounces) more. That is the weight of a post card.

So your happy with bare minimum refreshes its a complete disrespect to buyers minipulating there device upgrades in order to sell more devices wouldn't you like to buy a device loaded with new features instead of buying a device with only one or two ? You rather debate with me than give apple a call or e mail and voice what ever opinion or complaint you might have I'm sure if a enough people did you'd see some improvements instead of buying what ever repackaged revamped bare minimum device they decide to offer every 3-6 months why not just hand them your wallet say here take all my money in happy with these new ear shaped ear buds and in gonna need 20 of those lightening adapters

No sure why anyone is upset, because you can put your current model on ebay today and get most of your money back.

Knowing apple, this is just going to be a connector upgrade. All we have seen so far are updates to the connector only on the new ipad. Therefore, it's safe to assume, based on the facts at hand, that the connector is it. If that really, because it's just 1 photo.

Unlike the iphone 5, history (dejavue) illustrates that those rumors without solid physical evidence of them by now, will not actually happen. So everybody is wasting their time arguing about nothing.

As a person who skipped the iPad 2 and went from 1 to 3, I have no problem with Apple updating the iPad line. Not sure I will be a customer though. There has to be a compelling reason to upgrade, and right now the iPad 3 is probably as close to perfection in a device like this for me.

Processor upgrades? Who cares unless all the software NEEDS it? The screen is the biggest issue, and that's been taken care of. I have no interest in changing out for a lightning connector or A6.

Certainly, I have no interest upgrading my new (now old) ipad to the revised one, no matter what the update is. But this kind of revision really change my way of buying Apple product in the future.

Knowing the typical updating cycle, we know that the Apple product we bought (iphone, ipad, or macbook series) maintain the value well for at least to about a year, and as long as it is before two product cycle old, the resale price is quite respectable. If Apple start to refresh more frequently, like 6 months or so, even if the update is small, it drives down the resale value. And the ipad, iphone will just like an android phone/tablet, outdated in a few months. So I won't be able to use the high resale value to justify my purchase of some Apple product anymore.

Of course, I am not buying an Apple product just for its resale value, but since I don't keep the product forever, resale value affects my long term cost of owing these gadgets.

The update should be minor and that mostly means the new connector to encourage development of products for it. Actually I don't see any other reason for it since the smaller connector doesn't solve any issue with the iPad3. I have the iPad3 and since I also have some devices that fit it, I'm going to see this as an opportunity to move over to the mini line and just keep the larger iPad3 for home use.

i don't think the OP knows what the word "obsolete" means

people are always crying about the latest thing coming out, when their slightly less recent thing is just fine

relax

Yes, I realize there are other, more important things to be bothered by. I was simply venting my frustration that no more than 7 months from introducing the new iPad, there's a Oh, by the way....let's introduce yet a better iPad. Plain and simple - I'm entitled to have my own opinion.

Not to worry as it is getting harder and harder for Apple to introduce something that is REALLY better.

Not real impressed with the iPhone 5, it has only a taller screen and it lighter but at the expense of making it more fragile.

There is only so much that can be done with a tablet, the mini will sell good as it is smaller/different but will lack any new capability! You iPad is good!

:p
