Now all the whiners with older iPads can use Stage Manager once and then never use it again. 😅
Likely not the only party that thinks that stage manager should be the basis of a new GUI for iPadOS, but yeah demoing it restricted to M1 iPads with at least 128 GB sure was not a substitute to modernizing iPadOS to offer better GUI.

This is great except that the only reason I wanted Stage Manager on my 2018 iPP was *for* the better external screen support. Sigh.
Yeah, I think Apple totally missed the entire point on this one. Stage Manger on an external display is the main draw… removing that, you get a limited screen on the iPad itself.

For this reason alone… I’m not updating from my current beta build.

Very good. Still probably going to upgrade from my 2018 Pro when the the goods are released.

I hope Apple has learned something here that will apply going forward. Besides that one caveat, I’d say good on them for a rare reversal.

It’s not a weird take.l.it’s an accurate one. The apple of lately does this. The Apple Watch was a great example. They had NO IDEA how to market it. Indeed under prior leadership apple made more iconic things that told a story and convinced people I GOTTA HAVE THIS. That doesn’t happen anymore. It’s ….here’s are latest phone that can piss farther than the other guys.

Jobs totally knew what people wanted with iTV Apple TV right from the start.

The 2020 iPad Air has the same amount of ram and a more powerful chip than the 3rd generation iPad Pro. If they caved here, they'll eventually do the same with the iPad Air, but it's annoying we have to beg.

It's less powerful in multicore.

Plus some 2018 Pros had 6GB, and all 2020s did.

Maybe Apple should’ve wait to reveal SM, or the idea of SM to the public after looking into making it work for older models also.

But just because they listened to the criticism and put the effort into making it work on older models, doesn’t make them liars. Some people just aren’t happy unless they have something to complain about.

Criticized if you do, criticized if you don’t.

All of the features I am excited about iPadOs 16 are coming soon / later this year.

Wow, I didn’t see that coming. Good on them!
Yeah, I agree. Good on Apple for bringing this to A12X/Z powered iPad pros. Perhaps the initial user experience on A12X/Z powered iPad pros was less than Apple wanted, I wonder if the push back they no doubt got wind of when stage manager was just for M1 iPad Pros, they went back to the drawing board and figured out a way to optimize it for the older iPad Pros.

What a disappointment. I was with some minor confidants running stage manager and external display with great pleasure on my iPad. Now I'm thrown back to mirroring displays. 😭
You’re joking right?
It’s literally one of the first things you agreed to when you download a beta, that features may appear and disappear at random and its not intended to be installed on a primary device.

So why did Apple say it was only for m1 they must have lied when they said they couldn’t bring it to older ipads
Evidently they cannot bring *full* functionality (which includes external monitor support) to older iPad Pros. So technically that wasn’t a lie.

Frankly, I’m just glad they relented and are now willing to give owners of older iPad Pros access to the core features of Stage Manager without insisting that we have an iPad that supports the entire suite of features when some of us couldn’t care less about external monitor support. Good on AAPL for listening to their customers!

No, I'm not joking, my disappointment is real.
The simple fact I'm well aware of these possibilities doesn't mean I can't be disappointed

Exactly! But if they had added older models to the list of devices receiving SM, then released it, and the older models ran it like trash, they would’ve been bashed for doing so. They can’t win.

Now people are calling them liars because they held the release, “went back to the drawing board” and are now adding it on older devices, due to criticism. People are silly.

So the whole “older iPad Pros can’t handle stage manager” was just BS from apple?
Or they thought it couldn’t then someone optimized it and found out they could. I support always thinking the worst of politicians, govt, and big corporations but it’s not always the case that the worst is true…just 99%. This might be the 1%?
