This is how I feel also.Federighi said the experience wasn't up to their standard on older iPads, not that it couldn't be done.
And now that Apple listened to all you complainers, this is your reaction?
Man, you just can't win with some people.

this was my immediate thought as well...Glad they are supporting older devices, but my Air 4 with a newer A14 and the same 4GB RAM doesn't make the cut I guess? Whack.
Or they just had more time to work on it and optimized the code. Also it’s pretty clear they had to elimine the external monitor option so no, State manager is not able to run in older iPads without concessionsApple's developers reported to management that they found out they can switch a boolean value in the configuration files to enable Stage Manager.
Exactly! We all knew this though😂So the whole “older iPad Pros can’t handle stage manager” was just BS from apple?
They can only do half the number of apps and no dual display support so it wasn't BS when Apple said they can't do the full Stage Manager. So the whole “older iPad Pros can’t handle stage manager” was just BS from apple?
Or just show how bad Apple is at coding and optimizing code, SwiftUI proves it.Honestly, it would be HILARIOUSLY petty if that’s the reason they did it.
The A12 can run 50% of Stage Manager.I knew it was BS that the a12x/z couldn’t run stage manager. The a12z ran macOS!! Good that apple has opened up the feature to more users.
A whopping 100 mb more on the 24GB machine - I should inspect actual app memory use on an iPad Pro to check but i maintain that it could be made pretty fluid if apples focus was on performance and they gave themselves more than a year to work out the bugs…This math is nonsense. You can't just say 40 windows on 24GB works so 8 windows on 4GB should work. First of all that gives each window more RAM on the 24GB machine, and a lot of processes can share resources in that scenario with the much larger pool of memory, but it goes beyond that. Imagine the OS takes a couple GB just to be running. Losing 2GB barely makes a dent for the 24GB machine, but cuts usable RAM in half for the 4GB machine.
It does currently mirror the screen.i have a desk setup and i would love to mirror the ipad full screen (mainly for browser on safari)
lumafusion would nice too
side note: it would be nice if i can use it while ipad screen is off (dock it on the side)
It doesn't even work well on the device it's supposed to work well, this is simply badly written software and has nothing to do with hardwareI'm can't wait to hear all the people who complained that Apple had ruined their older iPads (because they bought out a feature on the M1 iPads that nobody with an older one cared about when they actually bought the damn things!) now complain if Stage Manager doesn't work properly on the older iPads!
"How dare Apple update the software with a feature that doesn't work as well on the older models... Why didn't they leave it out instead of being lazy and just releasing the same software for everyone!"
Nope, only M1 has virtual memory swap, and not even all of them, you need at least 128GBAccording to Apple, it's because A12X and newer chips have virtual memory swap.
It is still unrelated beta software that is changing quite a lot with each release. Best to go away for a while until it is actually released. Frankly, I hope that they still label it as beta after it launches and don't make it a default. I think it needs a little more time in the oven.It doesn't even work well on the device it's supposed to work well, this is simply badly written software and has nothing to do with hardware
Because it’s not a pro. Clearly they’re going to be updating the iPad Pro lineup with specific prosumer oriented features, and they won’t make it to the normal iPad lineup.this was my immediate thought as well...
