Sapphire

Did the rumors of a sapphire display go away? Or, is it assumed that sapphire will be used somewhere on the iPhone 6?

To the ones of us who put a mostly square case on it (with things like a tilt back device), the roundness matters less...

Beautiful, I really like this. Rounded does not mean more slippery, it means 'fits in the hand better'. Fingers crossed, this looks really nicely organic and a step forwards. A lot of engineering challenges for Jony et al though!

I like it too. It looks like it will be more ergonomic, like the Moto X and HTC M8. The current iPhone is slippery and easy to drop if you don't pay attention when handling it or have it in a case. And this rendering also makes it look a bit like the Galaxy.

Maybe it doesn't mean slippery, but the display running right over the edge will mean 'I'll break every single time I hit the ground'...

That is BETTER!

I still like holding the 3GS with rounded back better than my iphone 4 or my 5.

It just "felt better" in the hand to me.

Too much gloss (a render issue), too much round... the iPhone 5S never looked better than in this rendering! Although I don't mind the idea of the curved display - no bezel is good.

Too thin.

Hard to pick up off a table or flat surface.

The 5s is about as thin as I would like, no more.

Good lord, I hope those renderings are not accurate. Yuck. Not only does it look bad but the fact that viewing it off-axis distorts the screen edges is a serious negative.

It's a phone, not a television; you're never going to be viewing it off-axis. Heck, they even make privacy filters for phones and laptops that prevent viewing the screen AT ALL from off-axis.

With a few minor refinements, you can count me in the "like it" crowd.

With the greatest of respect, are you high?

Apple spend approximately three quarters of a trillion dollars tooling up for each iPhone, and you think the cost of changing a cutter in a CNC machine would be cost prohibitive?

Lol.

LOL! That's Apple's entire market cap.

In other news, the iPhone 6 with its curved, sapphire display, only costs $650 for a screen replacement!

So what good will this curved display do when someone who cares about protecting their phone decides to put a case on it?

Exactly! Apple's products do not need to get any thiner. Why does Apple think people really care about how thin something is? I've never understood why thin matters...

I Like it. I Really Like It

I've never cared for the squared edges of the existing iPhone 5, 5S, 4, 4S etc. They've always struck me as harsh and, frankly rather crude looking. This is why last winter when my wife needed a new phone she got a 5C. The softer rounded edges that are easier on the hand and the eye.

I think this new design look sleek and rather elegant.

curved design

This design is very slick. However, Apple should abandon the 4.7 inch model and rush all design and manufacturing on the 5.7 inch for a Summer release. For a change Apple, break the mold.

Freaking fugly! People need to stop coming up with these ugly pictures of what iphone 6 will look like.

Actually, rounded edges (if they release something like this) will make the screen more resistant to breaks. Unlike sharp corners, as in iPhone 4/4s, rounded edges with a wide radius will help distribute the shock to the whole surface area, making the screen less likely to break.

I thought i'd clicked the link to MacRumours but it seems instead i've come through to MacFlightsOfImaginationAndPureFantasy.com

I want curves! I hate the sharp edge feel of my 5S. The 5C feels wonderful in the hand in comparison, and I would have bought it for that reason had they made a 64 Gb and Fingerprint Recognition version (not that the latter has ever worked properly on my 5S anyway).

I am afraid the sharp edge design is like the thin battery... Style over substance. I do think Apple is going wrong there. That said, the MacBook Air is a glorious machine in terms of style and substance, so it can be done.
