Wow, its really THAT much of a deal breaker to you? What if they went back to the same form of the 2g, but instead of metal it was plastic? They may keep plastic backings to keep signal strength intact.

why would they add a camera to the iPod Touch. Yes, it would be nice, but you dont want to give to many similarities between the iPhone and iPod Touch. Then what would be the incentive to get an iPhone, if your iPod Touch can do almost all the things an iPhone can do? .

...except BE a $%$^ PHONE!!!!! <raises voice for comedic effect>

;)

Actually it is a word:

usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose...

from... Webster

Irregardless, it's still annoying...

And I will be so disappointed if the new iPhone isn't an improved design over the 3G glossy plastic :(

Not to beat this horse to death but, it may be a "word" but it is an incorrect word; another example of how American slang becomes so ubiquitous that the majority takes it as proper usage. According to my dictionary:

irregardless |ˌiriˈgärdlis|
adjective & adverb informal
regardless.

ORIGIN early 20th cent.: probably a blend of irrespective and regardless .

USAGE Irregardless, with its illogical negative prefix, is widely heard, perhaps arising under the influence of such perfectly correct forms as : irrespective. Irregardless is avoided by careful users of English. Use regardless to mean 'without regard or consideration for' or 'nevertheless': : I go walking every day regardless of season or weather.

Now we can put this to rest and move on to the topic at hand.

No me but if they upgrade the processor and memory and make the bluetooth usable it just might. what would be killer is a slightly bigger screen say 6inch. that would still be pocketable and easier to look at.

Are you kidding me? there is no way the screen could be a 6 inch diagonal. The device would be almost four times as big! I dunno what kinda pockets you have.... not to mention how rediculous we would all look holding that up to our ears...

I'd say this is a hint towards the death of the click-wheel. Nano to go touchscreen? Current version shape would be almost wide screen ratio.

Too bad that the voice quality of the iPhone isn't a very convincing arguement for most people to switch carriers/ phones. Maybe the new version will be better, but if "its a phone" is its only leg to stand on, most won't switch. I'd rather have my phone with great phone quality and an iPod Touch than a phone that can do both, with less quality when combined.

My iphone has great voice quality.

Not trying to be a jerk but i'm a grammar nazi, so please put up with me.

"Irregardless" doesn't make sense. It would be "regardless".

Actually, while being a non-standard word, and a double-negative of sorts, it simply means "not without regard" or anyways or in spite of. Besides, horrible words like ain't and creatures of ebonics :( seeped into vernacular despite the watchful eye of grammar-mongers like yourself.

P.S. I tend to agree with you and do not approve the use of stupid words.

Let's elevate the English language to the level it used to be. We've dropped who knows how many levels since Edwardian times.

Very comedic indeed.

So a quick hypothetical:

They give the iPod Touch EVERY feature an iPhone can do, only any iPhone can naturally make calls.

You would abandon your old phone, pay 30$ more a month on your service, and get horrible voice quality, JUST because its a phone?

I PERSONALLY would get an iPod Touch, have no commitment or contract, and keep my current phone. You know, so I can actually hear what the other person is saying.

Hmmm

hmmm.... my iPhone has better voice call sound than my BB 8900 did... no problems here!

To quote Stewie Griffin: "Any person who uses the words "irregardless", "a-whole-nuther", "all-of-a-sudden" will be sent to a work camps."

End of argument.

Project Charlie

The iPhone's current form seems pretty much spot on. I don't think anyone has a problem with how it looks or feels (other than the plasticness, but you're not going to get rid of that now, this is a mass market device).

All they can do is bump up internal specification of the hardware really, and that's all they need to do.

Not even a metal option? :(

And Project Charlie? WTH???

GPS would be nice too...

A Shuffle with a camera and GPS! Because life is random....

You could set the camera on "whenever" mode and it would snap off pictures at random intervals.

I love it. Shuffle jokes just never get old do they!?

I lost my 2G iPod Touch and I'm not replacing it until the next version is released. I'm really hoping for a camera and GPS capabilities. The camera would add a very nice touch for people that want to send pictures through email since the iPod Touch has built in Wifi.
I don't know why many people are so concerned that the iPod Touch would trump sales of the iPhone if the iPod had all the same features accept the phone part? Why should anyone care? It's Apple's decision and concern. We are the customer, it just gives us more choice.
I plan on using new my iPod Touch as a Skype phone so I wouldn't be buying the iPhone anyway.

Camera would be very welcome to me on iPod Touch - but add GPS too

I have had numerous iPods and find myself using the iPod Touch more and more like an Internet device. A camera would be welcome in my opinion. At this point I can't afford the hefty monthly service charges of the iPhone and I do really like the iPod Touch. I think adding GPS to the iPod Touch would be even a better addition - would come in very handy in the car.

I can for sure see the Touch getting a camera but I don't know about the nano.

They are kind of running out of things to add to the nano though and putting a camera in one would sell TONS of them probably!

Personally, I'm in the same boat. However, I can understand why many people would want to carry one gizmo instead of two-- and why others would prefer the alternative. In any case, it makes perfect sense that Apple would offer an iPod Touch both with and without a phone option (which is essentially what they are doing). The iPod is what is at the heart of Apple's consumer strategy-- the phone is just an add-on capability to cover the market. Think of it this way-- just as Microsoft's goal was once to "own the desktop", Apple's goal is to "own the pocket."

Nothing like the smell of napalm in the morning! :)

The App Store is a huge success. Apps run on both the iPhone and touch.

Maybe we will see the iPod touch with it's feature set. Then the iPhone with the addition of the phone part.

Photo & Video capabilities would be amazing

If the touch got photo and video capabilities with the option to upload to YouTube or a server, this would be incredible. Especially if there is some basic editing software built in, it would be revolutionary to home video. The touch rocks already, this would make it SO much better.
