Thats what i thought and i came up with this:

if its thinner and has a better battery it wont have GPS
if it has a better battery and gps it wont be thinner
if its thinner and has gps it wont have a better battery

if it's thinner and has options to turn off GPS and/or 3G it can have it all

It reminds me of the saying in the bicycle world that I believe bikemaker Keith Bontrager came up with:

Lighter
Stronger
Cheaper
choose any two

I'm sure that with the passage of time, bikes have become better on all 3 counts.

I'm no pro, but bikes I had in the 80s were heavy, breaky pieces of crap, and I remember paying about as much for them as I would for a new one today, and probably less.

I think they want to get these things out as quickly as possible. It's been a few weeks since the current models have not been available through Apple.

They want to start sales as soon as humanly possible.

All I know is I am going to get Canned UP on beer in line for the iphone. Every time I am in line for a realease, I am drinking descretly with my buddies. It helps, by the time I make it up to the counter Its like i dont even care about waiting.

Its like tailgating for a phone

I've never seen inside the current iPhone so I don't know how tight it is in there but companies have down specced Revision A machines for years in order to make the relaunch look as attractive as possible - this could just be a case of planned obsolescence............

Here is a YouTube video that shows the Take-Apart of the iPhone.

I can see free space on the motherboard that would allow for additional chips to be added.

...32GB max? touch has had 32GB for months - give us 64GB now...

The 32GB iPod Touch uses two 16GB flash chips, not one. With the extra space by removing the phone components, Apple was able to do this. If there is to be a 32GB iPhone, it will have to be in the form of a single 32GB chip, which would be fairly expensive.

If all these is true I will **** my pants with delight. I really am hoping apple doesn't disappoint!! :)

The only other thing I would want to see is an improved camera. I want the most all-in-one device possible and if the camera is only 2.0 mpixels it's kinda hard to rationalize it being your go-to camera...

Autofocus! Autofocus! Autofocus!

What's intriguing is that nobody is talking about the back camera. I don't know about you but 2 MP sucks. My 2 year old N73 has a better camera. A sophisticated device like the iPhone should have at least a 3.2 MP if not even a 5 MP camera.

Same here no one seems to care about camera... even more so than megapixel, auto focus is a must! I have N73 atm and it is doing quite well but obviously not as stylish as iPhone. Music fn. I will not even talk about...

Divergent Rumors = Different Models?

So the rumors seem to diverge but are very specific on both points. Is it possible that they may be coming out with two different form factors?

How about iPhone Nano and iPhone Classic?

Not based on anything, but one fatter w/ 3G and extra business features + one skinnier w/ better battery life would seem to cover 2 sets of customers quite well.

This cant come quick enough, I have a Blackberry 8700 that is about to die. The new iPhone needs to come out.

Am I the only one that really doesn't care about GPS? I mean honestly I don't see a PRACTICAL use for it. I'm not going to be staring at my iPhone while driving, and it's certainly not going to top the features of a Garmin. Ok, geotargeting pictures or something, wonderful.

If you had a gps tracker on that girl you would be able to find her.

I don't see how it can be thinner, better battery AND 3g/GPS. Something has to give.

arn

Safest assumption is that the improved battery life (over current model) is with 3G off (remembering the on/off option referenced in an earlier thread), and likely less battery life than current model with 3G on.

what website is the best place to receive updates while wwdc is happening?? I want immediate updates as the iPhone is being disscussed.

Immediate updates are best received AT the WWDC Keynote, nothing else will be immediate. Hopefully someone can feed information relatively close to immediate though. :p

Mmm.... iPhoneGating... I like that!

Or, more generic: AppleGating!

It's also going to cure cancer, stop world hunger, and finally figure out who is going to win the Democratic National Primary.

As long as it doesn't predict (for the 100th year in a row) that the Cubs will win the World Series. :D (I find it hard to hope even though they have the best record in baseball today ... why? ... because they still need to win a few games in OCTOBER)

Where are all of the elevator shots this week? Rumors are no good without elevator photos :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Thinner just doesn't make sense to me as with Manu here. Maybe it is true but with all the extras that are rumored to be included I really can't see it. I can't wait for the keynote.

The battery will be an issue. Talk to anyone with a 3G phone and they'll tell you how fast actually using 3G drains the battery. the new iPhone is supposed to have an option to turn off 3G, which suggests that there's no quantum leap forward in battery technology.

They're simply adding the 3G technology that many have been clamouring for, and giving you fair warning that you'd better not stray too far from a power supply with it fired up.

i wonder if the ipod touch will have gps. that would be interesting.. knocking out all other gps makers :)
ohh what dreams are made of....

It's great when you've never owned or wanted or needed a digital camera like myself. I never used to like taking pictures, or similarly having my picture taken. My on-the-go now and then snapshots on iPhone suit me just fine.

If I wanted a 7.2 megapixel camera, I wouldn't be turning to a phone, I would look for a high-end camera. A device that's not a jack of all trades, but a master of one.

true, but at least the phone could have video recording.. i mean i don't always carry my camera with me... but once in a while when a prank is pulled or you see the little green aliens come up to you and ask you were to find route 67, i want to be able to take my iphone out and record them pulling out...into the night

Wow, it's going to have 3G and GPS?

I just want this to come out so we have less than 3 iPhone rumor posts/day.

I remember reading a post saying iPhone 2.0 should have 64gb, I agree, however it wont be cheap, my predictions are...

16gb, 3G, no GPS $399
32gb, 3G, GPS, $599
64gb, 3G, GPS $699

completely phasing out 8gb edge iPhone. The more expensive models should have subsidiary rebates with a 2 yr agreement of up to $200 off from AT&T.
