Agreed. It is worse than the original SE in many ways and A11/A13 is negligible in a performance that there is no point upgrading for iPhone 8 customers.

iPhone 8... yeah probably not.

But what if you don't have an iPhone 8 yet? There are a lot of people still using 6, 6S, and 7 out there.

Or I could see a dad "upgrading" from his iPhone 8 to this new 9/SE... and handing-down the iPhone 8 to his kid who still has an iPhone 6.

There are a zillion different situations out there.

Even though manufacturers release new phones every year... it's still up to YOU to decided when to buy/upgrade/pass-on/etc.

I don't see a problem with Apple offering this phone to anyone who wants it.

Right now the iPhone 8 is sitting at the bottom of Apple's lineup for $449. But if these rumors are correct... this "refreshed" iPhone 9/SE will replace the iPhone 8 in the lineup.

So if someone was ready to buy the iPhone 8 today... wouldn't this rumored replacement be a much better buy?

To get back to your original comment... you're right... this iPhone 9/SE isn't for people who already have an iPhone 8.

It's for people who are looking to buy the iPhone 8. This phone will replace the iPhone 8 as the entry-level iPhone.

This is stupid. It’s taking resources away from real product updates. Where’s this iMac update that was supposed to come? We don’t need a baby phone for babies
iMacs are waiting for Intel to release Comet Lake S.

But if by “real products updates” you mean iMacs, realize that few Macs are sold. Apple sells 10 times as many iPhones and twice as many iPads as Macs. And within Mac, 80% of customers buy laptops.

Apple sells a quarter billion Macs, iPhones and iPads. Of those, only about 2 million are iMacs—0.8%.

Even for the price.....I think it looks very outdated.
I agree. Even Samsung’s low tier A-Series line offers a full screen for only $250.

But Apple seems more interested in profit margin than pushing their design forward. They continue to reuse existing parts for new products.

What do you Count as real product updates? Apples focus is iPhones, iPads first then Macs

I wouldn’t give them $50 for it. I wouldn’t even use it if they gave it to me. No interest whatsoever.

I like my 6s design just fine; I’m not an anti-bezelist 🤣 I’ll take a look at the 5.4” iPhone 12 this fall, since it’ll be a little smaller than the SE, which I’m also considering. But I might just end up keeping the 6s until fall 2021. It’s amazing how well it still runs. I’m guessing/hopeful that it’ll run iOS 14.

Which is great if you only want a phone to last around 2 years in terms of software updates. iPhones get 5+ which does make a difference for people on a budget.

I think it’s a bit of an exaggeration that Samsung phones last 2 years. Just like an iPhone, you don’t necessarily need the latest OS.
Heck, my iPhone6 is still on 12.4.5 and it works just fine.

Nor do I. Mainly because I’m in the Apple ecosystem.
But my point is that Samsung doesn’t limit their modern design to only their high end line, but spans across their product line.
I’m not suggesting Apple has to go bezel free. But don’t just shoehorn a new processor into five year old design and call yourself innovative.

Tru dat....a big company like Apple when releasing a new product even if at the budget end, should have a wow factor and not just the internals.

Every Samsung Galaxy 1 through 7 looked exactly the same and now 8 through 10 and the new ones also look the same. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Apple have totally different hardware divisions - so what resources do you think are being diverted here?

And speak for yourself: just because you personally can't imagine using such a phone, doesn't mean there isn't a market for one.

Depending on what comes out in September I could well see myself buying one to replace my aging 7 to tide me over until 9/21.

Personal incredulity is not the same as real life.

Have you tried cleaning the socket with something thin and non-conductive like a toothpick? Usually that type of problem is just due to a buildup of pocket lint that prevents the connector from fully seating. Maybe you’ve already tried cleaning it.

Jep. I did. Tried a few cables. Cleaned it with toothpick and those ear thingies. Nothing help.s
also, It doesn't load on the computer at all. only direct charging

Luxury status symbol? iPhones are cheaper than Samsung and probably Huawei flagships. Not to mention the foldable phones from both companies that are way more expensive than iPhones. Also, in India Apple is mostly selling old models discontinued elsewhere. And when you say "west" you probably mean English speaking countries. In western countries like Germany iPhones have very small market share.
There are people who believe that iphones are a luxury status symbol. Besides cost and luxury aren't the same thing.

Samsung haven't had a "WOW factor" for years. Their design always looks almost identical. But they dont get as much criticism as Apple for that.

That goes for everyone. All phones look the same nowadays.

is there rumors of a iPhone SE plus model?
Ming-Chi Kuo is predicting a Plus model for the first half of next year.

Yeah, we're suffering from a problem of too much elegance in the cell phone world nowadays and IMO Apple is squarely to blame. We need a good helping of ugly phones, and if it weren't for Apple, we'd probably have them.

Yup, the s8 was awesome when it came out. Hadn't done me wrong. Great design too. Still, I prefer the new iPhone body, that notch on top is what I have grown to love. Samsung with their full body screens are cool but not for me.
