"SE" with a bigger screen irritates me. Some of us are smaller humans, with smaller hands. Only on the real SE do I have a full grip, and can slide my thumb from corner to corner. After my SE dies, I'll either re-buy an old one, or leave Apple altogether.

Apple offers the smallest phone of all other manufacturers at 4'7"....

Where will you go?

Even cheap Android phones have 5.5"-6.2" screens nowadays. And flagships definitely do.

The funny thing is... there must be small humans that use Android, right? With 2.3 billion Android users on Earth... they can't all be giants.

Maybe we can learn a lesson from them on how to cope with larger phones? :p

That didn't happen, but it is rumored that the iPhone SE2 could be released tomorrow. (Saturday)

Then Sunday, Monday, Tuesday etc.

So far, people are now looking towards the April 15th announcement and shipment on April 22nd. Still, I find it hard to believe people are this excited for a 4.7 inch phone. My Galaxy s8 does fine for me but I switched to the iPhone 11 and it's just a bit wider but excellent for me. I am a rather small person, 5 foot 5 so normally small hands as society puts it? I can't find myself going back to my first iPhone which was an iPhone 6. Too small. Regardless, I can't fathom how people want small screens. Having anything under 5 inches in 2020 is mind-boggling yet there are people who still have the 4.7 inch variant. If anything, people with the 5.5 (iPhone Plus) inch should get the "Plus" variant if it drops alongside it (if it doesn't then wait? If you need a new phone, then get this then) and then get the next one in 2021. iPhone X body with the next latest specs on a budget? Now that is what people want for sure. Semi-dated body but the body Apple will be using till 2022 where some rumors says they will FINALLY have "full-body" screens like the Galaxy s10, which, in my opinion isn't too attractive. I love the notch on my 11.

Some say it can be released tomorrow, but it is more likely to be released on April 15.

Besides the obvious that people have different preferences, including ortability and weight.
There’s also cost. Many can’t or won’t pay $800-$1000 for a phone.

Of course Apple could make a true SE replacement with an edge-to-edge display for $500. But instead opts to give us a dated bezel design from years ago. Meanwhile cheaper Android phones with OLED displays are a plenty.

Anyone remember how fast the SE felt on launch year, because it was running the 6S chipset at a lower resolution, and in doing so felt even more fluid than the flagships?

A13 on 750P? Holy overkill batman! Though at that point, an interim resolution bump even to 900p or so would be appreciated, as the SoC is well overkill at that point and the GPU powers higher resolutions with still stellar bettery life.
This phone is all about being cheap, minimal development, not about being high spec. They are plugging in existing higher spec CPU etc into the existing 8 design - minimal dev. There is no existing higher spec 8 screen, so would require non-minimal dev, so screen bump highly unlikely to be happening.

Samsung and Huawei are certainly not more popular than iPhones lol. In places like China or India most people would go for those brands simply because they are cheaper, but even there an iPhone is considered an ultimate luxury status symbol for the wealthy. That’s not to even mention in the west.. trust me when I say your average teen would rather have an old iPhone 6 over a new Samsung or Huawei because otherwise they’d probably get teased by their peers. Look at the phones celebrities/influencers/personalities have - all the latest iPhone. That’s what the brand is - iPhones are simply in fashion.

Android fans are a very small minority (though they are very loud)
Luxury status symbol? iPhones are cheaper than Samsung and probably Huawei flagships. Not to mention the foldable phones from both companies that are way more expensive than iPhones. Also, in India Apple is mostly selling old models discontinued elsewhere. And when you say "west" you probably mean English speaking countries. In western countries like Germany iPhones have very small market share.

I have had an iPhone XS for 18 months but I still love compact smartphones. The lease runs out in October and I have to return the XS....

But I will still compare this new one with the new 5.4" model. It will absolutely be one of these two. I'm a non-Pro iPhone kind of customer.

That aspect would be disappointing because there were rumours of a bump from 4.7" to 4.9", which would have been a great iPhone 9 deal sweetener.

Nice. I knew the moment they said "don't buy masks, they don't help," I should've bought masks, but it slipped my mind.
Ah, bought it for volcanic ash fall (hence we got N95 specifically). Then it ended up being useful right now.

I'd be more excited if it were even smaller and/or lighter.

I don't need to carry a brick around in my pocket. I primarily use my iPhone for music, texting, a couple of casual games, checking in on IG once or twice a day, and, occasionally, for phone calls. For all of that stuff, the smaller the better; a tiny device I can quickly swipe around on is all that's needed. Cheaper is better too!

I have, sometimes, used my phone on the sofa for watching video. In these days of social distancing, I have even used it for FaceTime. But I have my laptop at hand for those uses whenever I want -- the only time my laptop isn't available is if I'm out of the house, and if I'm out of the house I'm *doing something*, so I'm not using my phone for anything except the casual stuff I mentioned above, plus maps for navigation -- and yes, maps would be a little better on a bigger screen ... but not better enough to warrant the higher cost and excessive pocket usage.

I really think my situation is pretty common. A lot of people live with an actual computer (or heck, even an iPad) available at home for anything that would benefit from a large screen, and when not at home, smaller devices are better.

A small percentage of users get eye strain from the OLED iPhones + the new liquid retina displays of the XR/11, so the 9 is fantastic for us. A 2019-spec’d phone with the non-liquid retina screen is exactly what we’ve been hoping for.

Apple is operated by idiots, that's why you see more mediocre product instead of real innovation.

I think most people can't reach everywhere on the screen of a modern non-SE iPhone without shifting their hands around or using two hands. I can't, and I'm above average male height. Used to be that people wanted a phone they could reach everything on quickly then put the phone back away, but now people are so phone-addicted that having a large screen matters. So it's gone from small being the only option to small not being an option at all, which is annoying. Would also prefer it using less space in my pocket.

I'm moving my SIM into an iPhone 5 as I type this, latest OS be darned.

I don't care about the name. I'm just happy they're updating it. I loved my SE. It was a great phone.
