Sad, no updated Mini.
I guess Tim doesn't want my money
Either they will kill Mini or turn it into Apple TV that runs macOS. It will be completely user inaccessible, come with flash drive and won't even have any extra room for a second 2.5" drive. It may have a single USB C port and maybe an HDMI port as well.

Get over it.

Typing is so much better on the new keyboards.

SHAME!
Like heck it is. One of the reasons I took my MacBook back is because I was constantly having to look down at the keyboard to re-center my fingers as it has zero tactile feel to it and is about as comfortable as trying to type on an ipads onscreen keyboard. With such little travel, my joints were sore after a couple pages. It's fine for quick emails or replies, but God help anyone who tries to use that thing to compose business letters or school reports.

Except Asus and several other OEM's are already shipping laptops which use the same Kaby Lake parts an updated MacBook Pro would use, so ya know, there's that inconvenient little fact. It's the Desktop level Kaby Lake processors that won't be out until early next year, which is why iMac refreshes are doubtful.

They are not. Skylake HQ will not be released until 2017.

5 years since Thunderbolt display received an update, and it's still not ready. What is happening to this company.

To be fair, we heard about the 5k display back in March/April, but they are supposedly doing something VERY different this time. The TB3 display is supposed to have dedicated GPU. So you don't HAVE to get a dGPU in a MacBook Pro if you only need it in the office or while at home and not while traveling..

Which is like 90% of the world really. I rarely need dGPU while I'm out with my laptop.. Only when I want to game when I get home or use Final Cut for serious work.

Yes? Kaby Lake was only announced 2 months ago and you expect them to ship?

LOL.
Kaby Lake started shipping two months ago, it was announced a year ago. And seeing how the competition is already shipping (not just announcing) KL-equipped laptops, yeah it's not a real stretch to expect the same from Apple. One would think part of the deal for buying inferior modems for their GSM iPhone 7's was to secure a higher place on the waiting list for Kaby Lake parts. If not, what would be the advantage or even point in using two different chips, requiring two different IC configurations and two separate models for each size and color iPhone 7/7 Plus? I highly doubt the intel part is that much cheaper than a Qualcomm modem to make such stratification, which they abandoned two years ago with the launch of the 6 series, worth it financially UNLESS they were getting something extra from Intel.

They're not shipping high power parts with Iris Pro because those won't ship until 2017. I don't know what part of this you're not wrapping your head around here.

I'm finally going to get an iMac next time I upgrade. I always deliberate over which to get but I work far better at a desktop and find that my iPad is by far the best device for the kind of lounge computing my MacBook Pro normally does. Plus I can read my magazines on it.

Plus, with the iRig HD 2/Apogee Jam, studio docks and the plethora of music apps, I'm well covered for portable music creation too! Really excited for it when it's announced. Hope the Magic Keyboard also gets updated for the OLED bar and Touch ID.

You people asking why they aren't using kaby lake need to take up a different hobby than computing

This exactly! The high powered Skylake mobile processors didn't come out until roughly halfway through 2016 and that only the low-powered Kaby Lake processors (those that you put in a rMB or something like a Razer Blade stealth) have only just come out.

Intel's delays are the reason not Apple being a generation behind.

I am getting tired of pointing out the obvious said:
Kaby Lake Core H – quad-core processors with TDPs between 18 to 45 W. Scheduled for release in Q1 2017

Edit: Sorry I misread your post @AfroAbel. I shout you said that Intel was not the reason. I'll leave my idiocy here in any case, with this apology

What I don't really get is all the complaining about pro users not being able to use Macs for their work. Ok, I don't think they should remove the SD slot, bad move but there's always an adaptor.

Maybe it's because I'm not a pro user, I don't know what would actually define a "pro" user or I mustn't interact with these kinds of people who have the difficulties.

I'm just a software developer, website designer on the side. I also have a business making 3D printed sculptures, so I do a lot of 3D software work. I'm a semi-serious photographer, I do a lot of photo editing and a fair amount of video and sound editing. My wife, outside of her day job, is a part time illustrator. Other than that my best friend is a sound engineer who also uses a Mac.

So maybe we're not classed as "pro" users but we've never had a problem achieving anything on our Macs. Maybe we have to use the occasional dongle or adapter to achieve certain tasks. But that's about it.

I'm using a 2012 iMac, definitely not what you'd call a "pro" machine, even though it was maxed out at the time of purchase. But I still manage to achieve everything I want on it. All that while it's also being used to stream HD video to 3 or 4 people at a time.

So I may be in a minority, but I'm actually really happy with my iMac. I'm considering an upgrade to one of their new ones once announced. But I don't really need it, this ones still doing a great job.

*There was probably a point to this, but I forgot it while waffling on :D

I'm starting to wonder if that article regarding IBM and the cost of Mac's being justified was "created", to justify an increased $500 dollar price point for Apple's new and upcoming hardware. o_O

Are there any interconnecting relationships at the board level of these two companies?

I just want proof that I didn't make a mistake getting a 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro last summer. Looks like I'm going to get it. ;)

I bought a quad-I7 15" a few months ago. I'm not perturbed, nor will I be jealous of Skylake ones. Even Kaby lake barely raises my interest. Cannonlake ought to be a significant bump but that's a couple of years out in a form suitable for MBPs

Hey guys - remember the Mac Pro? The Airport and Airport Express? The Cinema/Thunderbolt Display? The Mac Mini? The iPod Touch?

What's so different about Apple today relative to 5+ years ago?

The iPod Touch is dead - the Thunderbolt Display is waiting for Thunderbolt 3 to be able to carry 5k resolution along one cable, this has been explained countless times over the last year or more. The Airport Extreme already runs gigabit wireless there isn't anywhere else go with that the moment - the express could do with being updated to it, but i'm not sure its possible without antennas for the beam forming.

The Mac Pro and the Mac mini on the other hand are the obvious two, but its obvious like 0.5% of Apple's turn over now compared to the iOS devices, this is the downside to our favourite computer company being so successful with mobile devices unfortunately.

All I can say it Thank GOD for something interesting. The last keynote was a bad kind of boring

I honestly am shocked at how unappealing this updated hardware sounds. Did Apple hire the gimmicky gadget designer from Samsung?
