Either they will kill Mini or turn it into Apple TV that runs macOS.

If they don't release a new one next week, I see them doing what they did with the iPod Classic: keep it around for those who still want it but not update or promote it.

Sorry, but I kinda doubt that Apple would schedule a full blown media event if all that's coming are just new MacBook Pros and 13" MacBooks and nothing else.

Yea I don't buy this either. An entire event to say here are new MBPs, slightly thinner but looks more or less the same, usbc, and a touch strip? Few demos of the strip with certain apps. Then a MacBook that's 1" bigger with an extra port. Would be very underwhelming after such a long wait.

Regarding the Retina MacBook keyboard... I feel like there's something amiss with the complaints about this.

The keyboard on the RMB is 2 main things: New butterfly mechanism, very shallow key travel.

The mechanism is a great improvement over the current MBP mechanism IMO. No matter which part of the key you strike, it tends to take equal force and pressure to depress a key. This is awesome. The shallow key travel is mainly what people dislike when they hate on that keyboard. But, this issue should be alleviated on the new MBP because it would have more space in the casing for a longer key travel.

The new mechanism + improved key travel has me really excited to use it on the new Pro and it doesn't make sense to me to write it off so soon when news of "MBP with new RMB keyboard" doesn't mean it's going to have that same shallow key travel.

Can we definitively say, based on the available data, that Apple's product release cycles have slowed down to a crawl relative to five - ten years ago?

Not watch bands... no, those are too important... and Message Apps...

What were you expecting? Not rhetorical question by the way.

They will just add the usual filler like they did at the March event with all the recycling stuff.

5 years since Thunderbolt display received an update, and it's still not ready. What is happening to this company.

Well it was cancelled rather than updated. There are some predictions of a new one, but I wouldn't call it a direct successor. They clearly didn't sell enough for the thing to matter. Otherwise it would have tracked the imac's updates, starting in 2012.

People be like: Apple is just not revolutionary since Jobs left... NOO, don't remove that ANALOGIC jack port and don't make things more portable!! Just stay the same!

Pretty damn hard to fill you up.

Removing stuff isn't revolutionary. If I took the wheels off your car, would you call me revolutionary? Creating new stuff is revolutionary.

they lost me at 'keyboard will have same butterfly design as on the macbook.'

SHAME!
But they're not really gonna be the same, are they? The keyboard's on the macbook are utter rubbish. The new ones must have more travel....right??????

Great if this is the case, would make it similar to the new Magic Keyboard which is fine. The lack of travel on the Macbook is horrible in my opinion.

We didn't get any rumours on the RAM yet, right? Here's hoping they'll offer the ability to upgrade to 32GB. My current 16GB is not always sufficient when running multiple VM's.
is the ram gonna be dddr4?

Let's hope this is the case. If not I'll go windows.

I'm confused. The pitiful 12 inch MacBook is going to be replaced by a slightly less pitiful 13 inch MacBook? And all the things that turned me away from Windoze to Apple are being eliminated? No more magsafe. No more built-in ports that work with standard legacy devices. A flat keyboard from the days of netbooks. And I will have to pay top dollar for all this 'bravery'?

It sounds like Tim forgot that the whole idea of a laptop is to have all the benefits of a desktop - but portable. Not having built-in ports that work without adapters is not making feel like I need to run out and buy this. And if they kill the 11 inch air, how much is an entry level laptop going to cost? $1200??

Then we have Sierra with auto-move-your-files-to-the-cloud, which seems to be just a gimmick to make people buy more iCloud storage space. And while it's up there, the FBI can have a quiet look around.

It's nice that Tim got a big stock bonus and thinks everyone should just use an iPad, but this new scheme has privacy issues and will price me (and many others) out of the Apple ecosystem.

Call me silly, but I simply don't see the value in buying a bag of dongles and replacing my laptop every year because I tripped over the power cord.

Either they will kill Mini or turn it into Apple TV that runs macOS. It will be completely user inaccessible, come with flash drive and won't even have any extra room for a second 2.5" drive. It may have a single USB C port and maybe an HDMI port as well.
This is actually a very good post. It makes sense to turn the mini into an HTPC or in this case, an HTMac. Maybe give it some snazzy details and exterior changes and call it the Apple TV Pro.

Yeah, because that's the same thing. A computer back in the day was an entire room, imagine if that were the spirit... I am a true fan of the MacBook because it pushes developers and hardware-makers to make a wireless and thinner future, but it isn't enough for a power user. This new MBP with four ports that can do almost everything and a automatic toolbar makes the life of a power/portable user much much easier. Apple wants and on-the-go lifestyle and I'm totally supporting that, even if I have to buy a dongle to use once a week.

I wasn't expecting radical redesigns across the board or anything unrealistic like that.

...but leaving the iMac untouched for over a year, sticking with a 5500rpm drive as standard in a $1500 4K model, etc.; their lineup stills seems dated and lame.

A MBP that has a "magic strip" touch screen, and a MacBook Air that has a new USB port just doesn't seem like enough to justify an entire event. Especially one with a title that reminisces of big news. I'd at least expect component upgrades in the models that are well do for one.

I think there will be new iMacs and more. But after everyone's expectations went through the roof after the invitation went out, this is their way of lowering those expectations. I would guess new macs but not revolutionary changes like some were expecting due to the hello again tag line. At least I hope.

First USB replacement for a pro laptop, thinner design, new bezels, new keyboard, new bigger trackpad with pencil support, new user interface to replace function keys with a screen... Don't seem much, making a Watch waterproof and selling the same phone but with a 7 would make a staggering keynote though.
