People expect so much of apple.

Its not as though they are the biggest and largest with an enormous R&D investment or anything. Its just Jonny and Tim sitting around a coffee table in a old house attempting to take another mm off their tablet.

The problem is all the "just-around-the-corner" processors are always "just-around-the-corner". If Intel started to deliver the processors when they promised them, the situation would be different.

I agree with the above. Good point.

However at the same time, it is unfortunate that you can't upgrade critical elements of most of Apple's computers. And yet, Apple only upgrades them seemingly once every few years. So you are locked into whatever tech Apple picks for you.

I must admit I don't follow the iMac line very closely (though if I had money to burn I'd certainly like to have one at home) so I have less idea of what's happening there. The 5k imac is already skylake, isn't it? Nothing to upgrade in the cpu sense there. Perhaps the smaller one will get Skylake in advance of the high end getting Kaby when it's finally released.
SSD as standard would be a good first step.

I'm seeking an iPad Mini PRO ....a possible computer replacement (with stylus) that will fit in your cargo pocket! Previous Mini's have been announced around this time. One can hope.

Yeah! USB-C!!!

Now, that's what I call innovation!

Not like these other companies, which sell boring, boring stuff for half the price! Like this one:

Personally, no Kaby no buyee.

I doubt it, but, I really hope your right.

I guess it's possible if there's a delay in shipping dates. Kabylake appears to be a tweak on skylake. Cannonlake was the original successor, which would have been a die shrink. Since that didn't happen, you have kabylake. Early skylake samples had too many bugs.

Yes? Kaby Lake was only announced 2 months ago and you expect them to ship?

LOL.

Apple would have had access to pre-production versions of the latest chips lke everyone else if they gave a poo about the computer side of the business.

Hey guys - remember the Mac Pro? The Airport and Airport Express? The Cinema/Thunderbolt Display? The Mac Mini? The iPod Touch?

What's so different about Apple today relative to 5+ years ago?
What's the matter with you man ... watchbands are way more important than computers and its respective accessories.

I was hoping for a resolution boost, like 4K as an option. Maybe in the next revision in 2020.

Yeah, seriously. They want to future proof this thing so bad that they're giving us only USB-C ports but they're not giving us a screen to watch 4k content on natively?

They should drop retina from the name. It doesn't signify anything special anymore. All of their major competitors offer higher resolution displays and somehow avoid adding a pretentious moniker to the name.

The 15" resolution should be 3840 x 2400.
That gives perfect aspect ratio scaling to:
  • 2880×1800
  • 2560×1600
  • 1920×1200
  • 1680×1050
  • 1440×900 (current 15 inch scaling)
  • 1280×800 (current 13 inch scaling)

I hope any new iMacs will give us display target mode back again.
Sometimes handy to be able to use it as an external display.

4k content won't be widely available for years. I used to own a 3200x1800 windows laptop and the scaling is atrocious, and most of them don't have the optimisation to properly run a disply of that resolution.

You can hear Ive now ...

We had never seen such an immense popularity response to our butterfly keyboard. And as you know, at Apple ... we live for one thing only - thinness. I mean customer satisfaction. So the engineers at Apple were so dedicated to this belief of thinness, I mean customer satisfaction, that they did what was never done before. They managed to incorporate the widely loved butterfly keyboard into the newest mac computers. It takes courage to change the entire design of a keyboard in the entire lineup, and we think we did a fantastic job. Take a look at how it presses down, like a beautiful butterfly.

I'm contracting at <very large PC manufacturer> at the moment and they were giving me a (joking) hard time about using a Mac. One guy starts waxing lyrical about his 4k display on <very large PC manufacturer>'s laptop, fires up a Java program he hadn't run before it comes up postage stamp size. Made me chuckle. At least until they issued me the same crapbox so I could be compliant and use their VPN. It's horrible. Truly horrible.

With that said, OS X doesn't have that scaling issue, due to the pragmatic way it's implemented so if 4K can be implemented within the power/energy band, and there's actually content widely available that makes 4K make sense on a 15" screen (and not just a pointless HURR DURR BIGGER NUMBERS = BETTER THAN pissing match) then Apple won't have any issues using it.

I don't need "different" I just need faster more efficient (and lower power) versions of the those devices.

Agreed. I'm hoping they release a new Mac mini. Nothing bad about the current version, it would just be great if they put more up to date processors inside it, and maybe a fusion drive as standard.

What I find interesting is Apple at the moment are having a bit of a slowdown with iPhone peaking.

If Apple were to start going backwards, if you actually look at their product lines nearly everything is years out of date, or half done and never really finished. It'd be clear as day why they're dropping the ball.

It's good that they are finally upgrading the MBP. Let's just hope it's not another half a decade before we see the next upgrade.

quick question: how do I connect my Thunderbolt 2 (Promise Pegasus 2) drives to the Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C ports?
Can't find the adequate adapter / hub?
