The Retina Macbook Keyboard is one of the most crappy keyboards I've ever typed on.
Agreed. However, the new magic keyboard is one of the best keyboards they've ever built. I'm a professional, (Publisher and writer) and love both the new magic keyboard and the chiclet wired keyboards are my favorite to use. I prefer both of them over mechanical keyboards even, because they are the best for RSI issues. If they put the magic keyboard in the new macbook pro's, I'm all for it.
As for iMac's, I hope they do update them. I'm do for a new main work computer, and I have to go with the 5K. It's not that the current line up doesn't do what I want it to, but I'll wince before ordering a year old iMac come Thursday afternoon. If nothing else, it would be nice for them to update the baseline HD to something reasonable. There's basically the perfect iMac in the refurbish store right now too... tempted... Only five more days...

I'm curious to find out how they will fill an hour talking about new laptops... There must be something more?

How is "hello again" justified by an updated MBP?

That's like whipping out a "just one more thing" at the end of a keynote to show some lame commercial. Ming Chi Wrong better live up to his name.

My guess is maybe new iPads. 15 minutes talking about laptops, 45 minutes talking about iPads! Apple consider iPads as a fully functional computer.

Music, Tim with the numbers, Phil with the presentation, Jony video, Tim with the wrap-up, music

I will admit I haven't tried the new magic keyboard - I'll have to give it a go.

Could they come up with a better imac shell design...let's face it the current design is a minimalist masterpiece.
Agreed. The design is amazing. As long as a desktop acts like a desktop, not sure how they could make a better design.

Why do so many people who want a pro machine care about Kaby Lake? The speed improvements are literally imperceptible over Skylake.

It's certainly not a big enough improvement from a future proofing perspective if that's what people are concerned about.

The highlight is clearly the redesign and the OLED strip which is far more exciting than Intel's latest chip.

Give me a 13" Air with a retina matte finish screen, ThinkPad keyboard, and in a black finish like the new iPhone 7 and you can take my money.

Heck yeah. The whole glossy screen movement is ridiculous except when watching movies. I bought the last cMBP they made and am still trucking with it well. You can keep the your glarebook pros Apple.

Because they don't really know what they're talking about and saw Kaby Lake in some low powered $400 crapbox convertible, farted out by some OEM as quickly as possible and think it's equivalent.

drop the chin.

The computer part of the computer has to go somewhere and have reasonable thermals. If the chin goes it'll have to either be thicker or slower

I just don't get it. If Apple was just going to use the Sky Lake chips, then they should have updated the Macs last year instead. All the people who want the Kaby Lake chips with this update are right to do so. If Apple wants us to pay a hefty premium for their products, then they should put the latest components in them, not last year's specs. At this point, Apple might as well wait till next year to update the Macs. We've waited 4 years now, so what's another year.

Thicker is fine, also exhaust is in the back, downstairs is just speakers. Extending display from edge to edge will not remove computer part just put it behind.

I don't understand waiting so long to use the chip thats been around forever.

And no new iMac means I am going to learn how to Hackitosh because I cannot take the waiting anymore. My iMac is old and needs to go. Holy cow Apple.

Why would making it thicker look better? Again sounds like change for the sake of it - currently design is more or less perfect apart from the old hard drive bulge and until we can get 3-5TB flash PCI (at reasonable prices) that stays.

I find the chin uglier than the thickness it was around the first aluminum design. Plus, thinness is pointless on a desktop.

The current 27 inch iMac is already running Skylake, don't think the Kabylake chips are available for that machine yet. It isn't like they are just choosing to do nothing with it.

I actually totally agree. You look at the thing from the front when you're using it. Well I almost totally agree actually. A little border is good for keeping your attention and focal length right when viewing the edges of the screen close up. This matters less for distant screens like TV's because they're usually far away with little or no distance or distraction behind them

The reason why the Macbook Pro will have SkyLake is because Kaby Lake wasn't available when Apple started production which would have been a few months ago (when the first leaked pictures of the body with the space for the OLED function bar thingy appeared on the internet).

If they had waited for Kaby Lake the Macbook Pro wouldn't be ready for Christmas and thats a lot of business to lose out on especially with Microsoft launching their new Surface Pro next week. And imagine the slating they would get from the likes of us (What no new Macbook Pro ready for Christmas? What are Apple playing at?).

However, seeing as iMacs don't tend to be bought as Christmas presents as much as Macbooks are they could afford to stall production until the Kaby Lake was available.

I'm personally not really that fussed about having SkyLake instead of Kaby Lake. I'm a professional geek but I couldn't tell you which chip my current Macbook Pro has except its an i7 2.6 GHz and for the last 4 years my 2012 Retina Macbook Pro has served me very well despite having had a good hammering. Its the longest I have ever kept a laptop for and if I am going to be perfectly honest it could probably last me a couple more but the spoilt inner child in me wants a new one (plus my husband has just spent £5k on a new mountain bike so he's not in a position to moan when I do).

Call me shallow but I'm more interested in the OLED function bar. I just hope it lives up to the rumours that have been circulating for months...

I used to like the iMac when they had color on them, they look awesome, also iBook, even the power mac on 2 color versions then everything went silver and black.

It wouldn't have been ready for Christmas if they'd waited for Kaby Lake because the chip for the 13" isn't released until January (and probably won't see volume for another month or two after that) and the chip for the 15" won't be released until June (and not in volume for a month or two after that)

I feel like it would be really nice if people read the thread at this point.
