I don't get this "flatter design" thing that keeps being mentioned for months. I already think the current ones look really flat, flatter than my old thicker 2010 MBP for sure, and can't see how they could perceiveably get any flatter looking. If they've changed, then I could only see it being described as a rounder design: you can't get flatter than flat! All the mockups look the same flatness as the current ones in my mind! Maybe it's a misheard rumour and it's just a more "flattering" look. 🤣

You are probably 100% right. It's just sad more than anything. Microsoft can do it on a Surface Pro, but Apple can't because of "thinness and lightness". Reality is they just want you to pay for a whole new logic board or buy a whole new laptop if your SSD goes out or fills up. Really jives with their whole "we care about the environment and e-waste" claims.
Oh absolutely, a m.2 nvme takes up next to no space. But they want they massive markup on storage compared to people buying the base and upgrading it themselves for cheaper.

One of the other simple things I’ve never understood with Mac OS is why you can’t cut and paste files within finder
You can "copy", then instead of paste hit the alt button and the menu shows "move" instead of paste (which effectively makes that "copy" you did a "cut"). Cmd-C should work, not sure if there's a keyboard shortcut for "move" though (and not on a Mac as I type this so can't try). Not sure if that helps much and you wanted definite keyboard shortcuts only, but it's had that for as long as I remember.

As much as I just want to throw my money at this, I'll wait a few months for others to test out the new hardware. Sounds like a solid build though! It would a good upgrade coming from my 2015' Retina 15' MacBook Pro.

It would be very unlike Apple to call the chip "M1X", as it would be based on the new CPU A15, and as such a new architecture with double the cache and much more powerful efficient cores. Thus, they will give the new CPU at least a new number!
I am hoping they call it the N1, just to mess with everyone. Even better, call it the N17.
not entirely convinced about the 64GB RAM option. at least the 14" MBP definitely will only have 16 or 32GB of memory.
I suspect the 14 and the 16 will come with the same options.

They said it will have three Thunderbolt ports. They said there were four lights. I suspect they are messing with us again.

Wondering how insane the discrete GPU is going to be. Probably on the order of M1..
Considering that the M1x is predicted to have 16 or 32 cores (compared to the M1's 8 cores),
you can hope for 2x or 4x increase in GPU insanity.

I’m hoping for a MagSafe/USB-C combo port. Having both available would accomplish the same thing I suppose, but combining them would be really cool.

With Apple's redesigned MacBook Pro believed to be just days away from being announced at Apple's "Unleashed" event, we have compiled all of the coherent rumors from our news coverage to build a full picture of the features and upgrades coming to the company's highly-anticipated new laptops.

It is worth noting that the rumors below are aggregated from our coverage from a wide range of sources, including leakers, analysts, and publications. The reliability of each source varies, so some of the rumored features may need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

That being said, this year's MacBook Pro rumors have been very consistent, with sources including Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and "Dylandkt," as well as MacRumors' own findings, presenting a very similar picture of the new machines.

The overall view of the redesigned MacBook Pro rumors gives a good idea of many of the upcoming upgrades and what users can largely expect from the new machines when they are officially revealed. Apple's "Unleashed" special event takes place on Monday, October 18, where the new MacBook Pro models are widely expected to be announced. For more detailed information about the redesigned MacBook Pro models, see our comprehensive "Everything We Know" guide.

I hope they add 5 zero profile LED’s to act as a visual indication that the MacBook is receiving charge (even with lid closed). This was in every MacBook Pro many moons ago and when they stopped, I was wondering why they would ever remove such a useful feature.

Anyone out there even remember those tiny LED’s?

These forums are going to explode with equal parts happiness and outrage when Uncle Tim takes the wraps off these machines next week. I suspect I am going to be in the happy camp as I dont have a lot of mental coin invested in the the more far out wishes.

There is a subtle doming of the lids on the current designs. This will probably flatten out in the new designs. The bottom of the case will probably also flatten out.

not listening to rumors anymore. All it is just pundits from people who like to improve their career on false bs like Jon p
As pointed out to me a long time ago, the title of this website literally has the word RUMOR in it!!! So if you aren’t paying attention to rumors anymore, why are you visiting this site? It is for rumors!!!

if only they release a new airport extreme...

Absolutely! Why they stopped making Wi-Fi routers is something I find hard to imagine. I mean really - Why stop making Airports? The company that made WiFi popular in the 1990's decides to throw all Apple users out in the cold to use any old router. What about all the rumours about WiFi routers with back doors and so forth? I thought it was probably the biggest security hole risk ever forced on Apple users.

Meanwhile look what’s happening to the bs keyboard in the last 6 years with touchscreen we never want to ever use and noisy keys. Spend a billion on touchscreen keyboard thingy that gets cancelled after a few horrible MacBook Pro's.

I have a stack of ALL my old Powerbooks and MacBook Pro's going back to the first Titanium. I upgraded every revision I think for more than 20 years. But at the moment I am rocking a 2018 MBP. I did not upgrade for this many years! Why? Because they all sucked. Noisy keyboard skipped keys - was supposedly a recall - but I didn't bother - just bought a new one. Frankly this 2018 unit has a noisy keyboard also.

I lost all my ports. Spent like $500 extra on dongles. Noisy keys. No LED charge indicator. Lost my MagSafe too. It was ****.

Looking forward to the new MacBook Pro.
