You can "copy", then instead of paste hit the alt button and the menu shows "move" instead of paste (which effectively makes that "copy" you did a "cut"). Cmd-C should work, not sure if there's a keyboard shortcut for "move" though (and not on a Mac as I type this so can't try). Not sure if that helps much and you wanted definite keyboard shortcuts only, but it's had that for as long as I remember.
It's cmd+opt+v.

Hello everyone,

I've been using Apple products since 2008. As for everyone here, I'm very excited for this upcoming event to see the release of the Macbook Pro M1X. But, there is one problem that I have with these new upcoming Apple products that no one is really talking about a lot here. It's the Right to Repair. One of the main reasons that I've managed to extend the lifetime of my Macbook Pro 13' (mid-2014) is due to the fact that I was able to replace my SSD. Sadly, the RAM isn't upgradable. By replacing the SSD and running it on macOS Catalina, it's running very smooth and efficient. Pretty simple to replace the SSD if you follow the procedures on ifixit.com. So, here is the problem that I'm encountering now. This M1X will be powerful and expensive but with the storage starting at 512GB SSD that's just unacceptable with today's standards. That amount of storage is very low and most likely it will not be replaceable as any other component in the M1X laptop. For instance, look what Apple did with the iPhone 13, the camera component has it's own registered serial number so it can't be swamped or replaced. In the end, you end up paying over $2,000 for a Macbook Pro M1X that will be replaced with the M2 chip in the upcoming months and the cycle repeats itself. So, if you wanted to add more storage for your M1X Macbook Pro, most likely you won't be able to replace the SSD/RAM and you'll be put in the position to pay extra for that upgrade. It's just frustrating that we pay so much for these Apple products but we have so little control over our devices when it comes to Right to Repair. As time goes on, these Apple products will be more expensive and impossible to upgrade or repair. Sadly, correct me if I'm wrong, the next product is already awaiting in line for the M2 chip Macbook Air to come out in the year of 2022. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple products but it's a lot of money to pay that won't allow you to upgrade your SSD or RAM when the time comes.
What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts?

I'm okay with it, personally, since I get 4+ years out of my non-iPhone Apple hardware purchases so by then there have been enough upgrades for me to want to replace it. So I personally am not interested in keeping a machine around for upwards of a decade as some folks have done with their MacBook Pros and I get a thinner and lighter machine which I find value in as I move around with mine all day from meeting to meeting and site to site (as opposed to keeping it in a dock most of the day).

But that is me. Your mileage may vary. :)

This might have been mentioned somewhere, but when Timmy announced that they are making their own chips for Macs (M1) he said that they would continue to use Intel chips in future Macs. Do you think this means only on Mac Pros? I’m guessing Apple isn’t ready to transition their top end computers to their own silicon. And Intel’s Xeons still have the one up until a theoretical M2 or whatever they call it is ready for primetime in a pro desktop?

Basically I'm wondering if this all points to the fact that there will never be a new MBP with an Intel chip. Essentially, Boot Camp on MBPs won't be available on any future MBPs.

I think the current Intel Mac Pro could remain in the line for a few years alongside an Apple Silicon Mac Pro model.

The 2019 Mac Pro seems pretty expensive R&D for something Apple only intended to keep around for three years and the people who have bought them likely expected more than a three-year investment. And that Apple continues to release new MPX GPU modules and macOS having hints about the follow-on "Ice Lake-W3300" Xeon CPUs could be a positive sign that they intend to continue to support it for a few more years, at least.

If the rumours are accurate, I will be very jealous when they are released and once again I won't be able to afford one.
If they also manage to have several colorful options like they did with the latest iMacs, then I will probably end up shedding a tear of envy, but also glad they are releasing a laptop that even I would want to own.

Time will tell.

They should up the minimum storage to 1TB on MacBook Pros. 256GB was criminal when I bought mine in 2015 with limited funds. 512GB is a great improvement, but should be more for the price. (I bought my Mac Mini with 1TB. It’s the best value Mac in the line-up and I have zero complaints.)
This!! ^
Been saying this for 5 years.
I want a bigger SSD not a faster SSD.
2011 SSD speeds are good enough. Just give me a 1TB SSD as standard.

I can't tell you HOW FREAKING LONG I've waited to see this line. HOW HARD WAS THIS?!?! This could have been done years ago.
  • 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage as standard with the base configurations.

Hopefully the inclusion of HDMI means HDMI 2.1, and that the Mac will finally (and fully) support 8k monitors.

I'd love a true black color but I've not read any rumors about new color options for the Pros. I have heard there will be color options for Macbook Air next year but who knows? The pundits were sure wrong about the Apple Watch this year so it's anyone's guess.
Matte Black would be amazing. I had Matte Black (rubbery coating) Powerbook G3 and it looks awesome!

I dunno what you mean. Isn’t the new MagSafe supposed to be USB-C to MagSafe? What standard you are talking about here?

Seeing how half of the YouTuber saying 256GB should be more than enough for “majority of people”, I’d not be surprised if apple even bother to release 8GB 256GB for 14” MacBook Pro.
The current MacBook Pro 16" on Apple's website starts at 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. I can't see Apple going lower than that. Doubly so if they think they're getting that $2400 price point for it.

With Apple's redesigned MacBook Pro believed to be just days away from being announced at Apple's "Unleashed" event, we have compiled all of the coherent rumors from our news coverage to build a full picture of the features and upgrades coming to the company's highly-anticipated new laptops.

It is worth noting that the rumors below are aggregated from our coverage from a wide range of sources, including leakers, analysts, and publications. The reliability of each source varies, so some of the rumored features may need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

That being said, this year's MacBook Pro rumors have been very consistent, with sources including Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and "Dylandkt," as well as MacRumors' own findings, presenting a very similar picture of the new machines.

The overall view of the redesigned MacBook Pro rumors gives a good idea of many of the upcoming upgrades and what users can largely expect from the new machines when they are officially revealed. Apple's "Unleashed" special event takes place on Monday, October 18, where the new MacBook Pro models are widely expected to be announced. For more detailed information about the redesigned MacBook Pro models, see our comprehensive "Everything We Know" guide.

cool, I hope though 32core gpu not to require a kidney removal

One things for certain, with Intels anti Apple campaign it won’t be an early Intel 12th Gen release just for Apple! Bump to 10 cores doesn’t seem that much, I wonder if the clocks are just being pumped.

Please leave the ports as they are. The HDMI port is absolutely unnecessary, most people already have a dongle for that. SD cards, maybe, but give me two thunderbolt ports on the left and right side, so I can keep my current setup (mbpro - 4k lg - 4k lg). Would be quite the change if I have to move the mbpro to the right side of my desk.

Support for USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) to reach 2,000 MB/s with external disks, like Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD?
I'd expect the ports to be technically USB4. That is USB 3.76245 with Thunderbolt 3 added. I don't see Apple's SoC being able to feed Thunderbolt 4 ports. The M1 chip now does "integrations" to hardwire it's USB4 ports rather than PCIE lanes and feedback into the GPU signals. Just to get the third USB4/TB3 port will be some heavy lifting on SoC design.

The removal of the TRASH that is the touchbar is going to be the #1 reason i'll actually give Apple my money. Most useless and annoying garbage Apple has ever implemented.
Honestly, I find it "not too useful" - but not the worst thing ever. It's effectively just one more tiny touch-screen that can throw some extra info up on it. Biggest advantage I see for ditching it is just to reduce complexity and increase reliability a bit. At my old workplace, we had some machines have to get sent back just for a dead touchbar.

The only way this could be better is if it was possible to run Windows natively. After 8 years of macOS, I really want to go back to Windows. Mainly due to small interface conveniences (e.g., minimising an app by clicking on its dock icon), but also because of some common-sense features that Apple just refuses to adopt, such as passthrough lossless audio.
ARM windows is not great, so unlikely to happen. Why not just pick up a Windows laptop or intel mac and dual boot.

It’s crazy how excited we are in 2021 for a 14” computer, with a row of function keys, no bezels, a regular amount of ports, and MagCharing.
Apple has really nerfed the MBP line for us to be ending up here
I love my 2019 with 4 usb c ports and the Touch Bar. I think it silly to go backwards and include hdmi and doubt it will happen since usb c does it all. mag Sage would be a good addition to the 4 ports. we can have both function keys and a Touch Bar. they may even make the function keys E ink so they can be whatever we want them to be.

Not wrong, exactly .... but the reason I spent all the $'s in 2019 for one of those 16" Pros was the fact I wanted a machine that could still run modern Windows game titles well. That's the only time I boot it into Win 10. With the M1 and M1X, we don't even have separate AMD or nVidia video chips anymore; only the GPU Apple developed. That really seals off the option of games running well on an alternate OS you'd boot into. (I'm not even sure if Linux would get an accelerated GPU support for an M1/M1X? Wouldn't Apple have to make that themselves for them to use or release all the specs openly?)

Running them down:

  • 14-inch and 16-inch models with the same performance across both machines. Yay if you want a 14, boo if you want tons of power that takes advantage of more thermal mass
  • Slimmer bezels and no MacBook Pro logo below the display. Meh.
  • Mini-LED displays with ProMotion and resolutions of 3024 x 1964 and 3456 x 2234, resulting in higher contrast and brightness, as well as smoother on-screen motion. Yay
  • 1080p webcam for improved video calls, up from 720p on the current models. Finally
  • Flatter design, more akin to the design of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13. Meh
  • Six ports, including two Thunderbolt ports and a MagSafe charging port on the left side of the machine, and an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt port, and SD-card reader on the right side of the machine. This means that there are three Thunderbolt ports expected, one less than on current high-end MacBook Pros. Boo. Trading SD for TB is a regression.
  • No OLED Touch Bar, with full-size physical function keys instead. Thank God
  • "M1X" chip with a 10-core CPU that features eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, along with 16-core and 32-core GPU options, and support for up to 64GB of RAM. Nice, but wish the 16 came with a higher end option...and TBD on price for the GPU option (I suspect big raspberry)
  • Improved thermal design for the 14-inch model, mirroring the improvements that came to the 16-inch model in 2019, including a larger heat pipe and heat sink, as well as added thermal pads. Nice if you want a 14
  • High-Power Mode to optionally boost performance when not connected to power. Nice, as long as it doesn't nerf performance when you're plugged in
  • 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage as standard with the base configurations. Bare minimum today for machines expected to last 5 years
  • Larger battery for the 14-inch model and a slightly smaller battery for the 16-inch model, relative to the current models. Boo. Shrinking batteries is never good...and since performance is the same, what forced the shrinkage? Something doesn't fit.
  • MagSafe charging like older MacBook Pro models, now featuring faster charging speeds and a redesigned power brick. Sort of Yay, but should have kept 4 TB and added magsafe instead of SD. Yay on chargig speeds. And biggest boo of all for having to shell out yet more money for another brick. At the very least, need a USB-C to MagSafe cable so we can reuse the ones we have.
