The 2012's are built like tanks - I still use mine on a regular basis, hooked up to external SSD's and monitors. While that’s often true, the problems are also often much less severe than the outrage makes them seem. I bought a 2012 MBP retina at launch and I’ll finally be replacing it with this new machine. My 2012 has some screen ghosting issues but otherwise has aged really well, and has even survived numerous drops (one on ice and one when a back back strap broke) without serious issues. Hope to get another almost 10 years of use out of this new model!
With Apple's redesigned MacBook Pro believed to be just days away from being announced at Apple's "Unleashed" event, we have compiled all of the coherent rumors from our news coverage to build a full picture of the features and upgrades coming to the company's highly-anticipated new laptops.

It is worth noting that the rumors below are aggregated from our coverage from a wide range of sources, including leakers, analysts, and publications. The reliability of each source varies, so some of the rumored features may need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
That being said, this year's MacBook Pro rumors have been very consistent, with sources including Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and "Dylandkt," as well as MacRumors' own findings, presenting a very similar picture of the new machines.
- 14-inch and 16-inch models with the same performance across both machines.
- Slimmer bezels and no MacBook Pro logo below the display.
- Mini-LED displays with ProMotion and resolutions of 3024 x 1964 and 3456 x 2234, resulting in higher contrast and brightness, as well as smoother on-screen motion.
- 1080p webcam for improved video calls, up from 720p on the current models.
- Flatter design, more akin to the design of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
- Six ports, including two Thunderbolt ports and a MagSafe charging port on the left side of the machine, and an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt port, and SD-card reader on the right side of the machine. This means that there are three Thunderbolt ports expected, one less than on current high-end MacBook Pros.
- No OLED Touch Bar, with full-size physical function keys instead.
- "M1X" chip with a 10-core CPU that features eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, along with 16-core and 32-core GPU options, and support for up to 64GB of RAM.
- Improved thermal design for the 14-inch model, mirroring the improvements that came to the 16-inch model in 2019, including a larger heat pipe and heat sink, as well as added thermal pads.
- High-Power Mode to optionally boost performance when not connected to power.
- 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage as standard with the base configurations.
- Larger battery for the 14-inch model and a slightly smaller battery for the 16-inch model, relative to the current models.
- MagSafe charging like older MacBook Pro models, now featuring faster charging speeds and a redesigned power brick.
The overall view of the redesigned MacBook Pro rumors gives a good idea of many of the upcoming upgrades and what users can largely expect from the new machines when they are officially revealed. Apple's "Unleashed" special event takes place on Monday, October 18, where the new MacBook Pro models are widely expected to be announced. I’ll guess $1999 for the 14” model. $1799 is the current starting price for the 4-port 13” model. With inflation being a real thing again, Apple might use the upgrade as an excuse to raise the price. $1799 is still a possibility, though.Shaping up to be a truly great update, and I think most of these predictions/rumours will come to pass.
Any guesses as to starting price? 😬
It will definitely ship with Monterey.Any predictions or knowledge regarding which MacOS these new MBPs will ship with? My employer is fussy about these things when it comes to management software and medical health records software. I have gotten an old MacPro to work on a public beta of Monterey, but it's definitely not formally qualified.
you have absolutely zero chance of getting that.

So is the base 16gb RAM more than enough? How many people here will be upgrading to 32gb?
My 2014 MBP's days are numbered! Not really, it's still a workhorse, but my days of using it are definitely numbered.
There are several but I’ve used iSkey one off Amazon for year+ and it’s be great. Would recommendI realize there are USB-C to MagSafe adapters but I haven’t found a good quality one made by a decent company yet.
Surely you still can if there's TB ports on both sides? Just not with a magsafe charger. While I like mag safe charging from way back. I did like be able to use whatever side of the computer I wanted to charge via usb c
Y’all are so negative lol it’s comingGiven the AW track record, I predict no legacy (SD card and HDMI) ports ...
nope. 32GB max, at least for the 14" MBP. the schematics leaked a long time ago...Current MacBook Pros can go to 64GB. Any replacement would do that as well

He got 1 thing wrong & you all go crazy. It’s coming next Year. The redesign Apple Watch ok lolnot listening to rumors anymore. All it is just pundits from people who like to improve their career on false bs like Jon p
Great idea but probably would infuriate those who demand 4 USB-C ports, assuming this would be added to at least one of 4, if 4 total are offered.I’m hoping for a MagSafe/USB-C combo port. Having both available would accomplish the same thing I suppose, but combining them would be really cool.

I never knew I wanted this but now I will be sad if I don't get this.I’m hoping for a MagSafe/USB-C combo port. Having both available would accomplish the same thing I suppose, but combining them would be really cool.

I wish. Maybe next years M2X modelLook like I may be the first to say it, but I think they will offer cellular modems as an option to make these laptops truly unleashed.
I would absolutely love that, I much prefer Windows too. One of the other simple things I’ve never understood with Mac OS is why you can’t cut and paste files within finder (haven’t used the last two Mac OS versions so maybe it has been implemented now). I’m about to buy a new laptop (sold my MBP last year and haven’t yet replaced it), most likely a Dell XPS 15 (in arctic white because it looks stunning imo) BUT what I don’t like is I’ll be buying an intel machine. So here’s hoping the new 14” MBP design will actually look nice and modern with minimal bezels andd won’t be ridiculously priced.. then I’ll just deal with Mac OS, we’ll see.The only way this could be better is if it was possible to run Windows natively. After 8 years of macOS, I really want to go back to Windows. Mainly due to small interface conveniences (e.g., minimising an app by clicking on its dock icon), but also because of some common-sense features that Apple just refuses to adopt, such as passthrough lossless audio.
