No big deal with the tiny notch, most people won’t notice it, just like on the iPhone. Since nobody stares at the top of their screen, just the center.
Not me. I use my 2016 MBPs screen. And the notch just killed my desire to buy a new MBP."tHe nOtCh iS HiDeOuS! LitErAlLy uNuSaBLE!"
... according to the people who use their laptops plugged in all day to their desktop monitors.
What happens if it starts cutting into the menu items in the toolbar? What about the people who like to use full screen apps?I do like how they decided to use the notch area for the menu bar. That makes perfect sense. The menu bar on my Mac has nothing in the mid-section anyway. It's just wasted space. But it's a pity Apple didn't incorporate FaceID into it. At the price point of those machines, it would have made financial sense. And what an ease of use it would be: just open the lid and you're on your desktop.
I'm not against the notch. Just wondering what happens when all these menu items are displaying up there.

You do realize the screen is 16” + additional area around the notch? Basically, a small part of the Menu Bar will be covered. And, based on the pictures, you don’t have to even use this added space, making it exactly the same (with the XDR screen, this black area will just be “off” if you want it).Not me. Well, you could try to push down the display area, to where that big fat bezel is at the bottom. That way it's moved out of the notch area and there would be no notch... oh... wait... 😂Not me. I use my 2016 MBPs screen. And the notch just killed my desire to buy a new MBP.

I'm not praising it by any means, I'd prefer no notch. I'm just saying it isn't as bad as it seems, it won't interfere with most users workflows.Spoiler alert: poorly.
I don’t understand why everyone is praising this. This is ridiculous. I thought Jony Ive was bad but apparently we’ve gone from bad to worse.
The thing that throws me off on these new MBP’s isn’t the notch, it’s the overall design that looks far less modern in my opinion than products like the iPad Pro (which I love and use as my daily work driver). I guess it makes sense given how the iPhone 12 and 13 are inspired from iPhone designs from the past (4 & 5). Apple really seems to be going back to right a bunch of wrongs from the Jony Ive days of the thinner the better.
They spend more on R&D per product than any company out there. Surely they can come up with it, but surely it's not ready for the market. We'll just have to make do with the fastest and most efficient laptops, so sad. They're sitting on billions of dollars surely they could invest a little more in R&D and come up with a camera that doesn't need a chin to fit in.
No, that wouldn't work with localization, I think they'll put ... button to hide menu items that don't fit inI have some apps that cover more than half the menu bar with menu items. Some people use the low res scaled display options. I wonder what happens in these cases.
Is there now a limit how many menu bar items developers will be allowed?

Exactly. These criticisms seem fake.I guess people prefer the large notch of the MacBook Pro 13", that goes across the full length of the screen, over the small notch in the new macbooks.View attachment 1869940
Yep. Its the single biggest reason why the 2021 MBPs look dated. Why would customers be disappointed with the notch? It is better than a big black border around the screen.

Agree 100% And people are saying ’they‘ve added a notch’, when what they’ve actually added is more screen real estate.Take your MBP screen, look at it. They added space left and right of the camera, for the menu bar. They found additional space for your menu bar, so when you fullscreen apps, you still have it. Otherwise it’s the same screen you had. They added space, they didn’t take away anything.
But this is too hard for the Internet to comprehend, it seems. Every comment on every MBP news today is “but the notch”.
Personally, I really like the choice they made here.
