Well now, I guess all the complaining about the lack of ports, and what not was done by a vocal minority (including me), and the new laptops have struck a cord with consumers. Maybe they're not a good fit for some of us hard core mac users, but perhaps they are for others. I'm big enough to admit, that I am wrong on this machine. Clearly Apple's approach is proving to be successful and kudos to them

its a VERY tricky difference that people need to understand. This news is ONLY Revenue. has absolutely nothing to do with actual number of units.

And since the base unit price also went up, and there's pent up demand, higher revenues themselvse should be expected up front. However, Higher revenues doesn't impact the industry in any way. Good revenues are great for Apple but don't generally affect market share or use cases in the industry.

It's like the iPhone. Shrinking Market share, yet the biggest profit maker in the industry. Thats good for Apple. But again, completely irrelevant to the industry itself.

So true. As company, there is nothing better than increase in revenue.

So true. As company, there is nothing better than increase in revenue.

But as a consumer, it's not so clear cut.

I want the company I buy from to have good revenues. And a healthy profit. This ensures me that the company isn't gonig anywhere soon, and should continue to support, and update my device. There's nothing wrong with people who buy apple because of this reasoning.

What I have problem with is rampant profiteering. "40% profits margin? LETS DO 50%!" while taking home 200 million in bonuses, while cutting costs at the bottom end (restructuring of their store staff so that promotions are less and its generaly lower pay, using foreign labour, internationally suspectible human rights, etc etc etc), and then turning around and boasting how profitable they are, while also raising prices 20-30%.

to me, thats bordering on unethical. But, hey, as long as enough people are fine with paying the Apple tax, they'll continue doing it.

I don't want to know that my money is going directly to the pockets of a dozen disconnected rich wallstreet snobs. I want MY purchase power and money to go back into the company itself to grow it and help pay living wages for all employees. Profit is not meant to be stockpiled so that a few people can make themselves richer. it's meant to be re-invested so that the economy continues to circulate.

I've said it before: I think these are priced too highly and Apple is taking advantage of the pent up demand. They've done it before with the iMac retina. It feels disrespectful. But it seems we're willing to take the abuse. :/

Would that be the retina iMac that cost only slightly more than Dell were selling the same monitor panel for? The retina iMac was introduced at a very good price.

Further proof that nerds that bitch about technology on the internet are a fraction of Apple's customer base, not that anyone argued otherwise.

Reminds me of the "You just lost yourself a customer!" scene from Flaming Moe's:

NOTHING you can't do with an late 2015 MacBook Pro that you could do with a 2016 Late MBP. As a matter of fact you can do MORE with the late 2015 as you can connect MORE devices....

Also, I think this has to be balanced with the amount of time spent doing the "more". Sure I can connect a lot of peripherals to my Late 2011 MBP 15 with 16GB RAM and SSD, but ultimately, a 2015 or 2016 MBP is going to run rings around it (for the most demanding of use scenarios). :)

sorry, i was joking..
the little '/s' tag at the bottom of the post is meant to indicate 'sarcasm font' ;)

macs are an integral part of my productions (design/fabrication) and i think these 2016mbps are sweet.
Sincerely sorry about that but, man, does that ever make me feel old not being able to identify what was, in fact, obvious sarcasm as evidenced by the /s (I actually am aware of that and was being reactionary). Thanks for your patience.

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Say what you want in the debate about the 2016 MacBook Pro not being a device for "professionals," but it's got features that people want. Apple's goal is not to cater to a small niche of users who demand 32GB of RAM or legacy ports, but to capture market share in the notebook computer segment. What the average consumer wants today is a lightweight device with efficient processors, and the preorder numbers speak for themselves.

Sure, only thing which Apple should have done different is call the "Macbook" the "Macbook air" and call the "Macbook Pro" the "Macbook".

Also, keep in mind that the professionals who do want to have a *pro* device with 32GB and good connectivity and a decent gpu (nvidia), are including the guys developing the software for the ecosystem and the guys introducing the macbooks to "non-geeks"... Even if a small ( but vocal ) minority, it's probably not a good idea to distance yourselves from these guys.

Why don't they do total sales of other laptops vs the macbooks? With windows pcs you have choice.

I'm sure that ASUS or Toshiba would be happy if they could see it that way from a financial perspective too.. lol

Sales numbers would have been through the roof and into the "space" had they priced it just about $400 less. :p

When I did business studies at Uni we were always told you price on what the market will bare along with supply and demand. If Apple can sell out on a production run at 2.5k a unit why sell for 2k? Why get orders you can't fulfill at a lower price?

I think Apple purposely raised the prices knowing how popular the new MacBooks would be and once the production rates go up, the inital surge is over, the price will slowly come down.

Again, so true! With these orders, one of the signals we are sending is that if you choke us long enough, we will pay for whatever you give us.. no matter how annoyed we are while purchasing it. Rampant profiteering has always been an Apple hallmark.

Its clear reading some comments that some people really have a limited definition of Pro.

Boy, that's putting it lightly. With the new machines you can have multiple workstations set up to your precise liking, with monitors, external DACs, external drives, you name it; all which immediately come to life simply by plugging into just ONE of the four Thunderbolt 3 ports. Then you unplug and go.

Yet people's main 'professional' criticism seems to be that you'll need an adapter to plug in a USB stick, which almost seems like a juxtaposition when considering the above. It sometimes makes me wonder if these self-professed 'Pros' actually do anything.
