New Macbook Air is being delivered... Return window is 14 days, WWDC is in 14 days.

Damn Apple, what are you doing to me? Why can't you have a 30 day return window like most e-tailers? 😄
I am really tempted to just take the plunge on the Air at the moment, would get the M1 Pro but with the minor improvement over the Air, and the fact it has the Touch Bar just makes it senseless to fork out an extra 300 for…

I am either going to take the plunge or just hold out til WWDC before I decide…

I like this. Apple is starting to get good products again, after a run of annoying designs. The new Apple remote is great, and I'll be glad to get a MacBook without the touchbar and with an hdmi port. Of course, the real
fun will be the speed and battery life (or thinness) of the new laptop.

Interesting render shown. So that predicts 2 display ports are back, no USB-C, and it has no facetime camera? 🤣

A lot of folks are going to be disappointed. NOTHING in Apple’s history shows that the cpu in this will be anything other than the M1. People think it will be an M1x or M2. NOPE.

“Then what makes it Pro?”

This is where Apple has PLENTY in its history to let you know.

1. Mini led screen

2. “Studio quality” mic and speakers

3. 4TB storage options (maybe even 8)

4. MagSafe.

5. MAYBE ….MAYBE…32GB of ram. But that’s a big MAYBE.

It seems unlikely Apple will release a "Pro" machine that supports just one external display, when its predecessors for the past 5 years have supported four external displays.

It also seems unlikely that they'll release it with a 16GB memory limit, when its predecessors for the last 3 years have supported 32GB, and for the last 2 years have supported 64GB.

But hey, if the rumours about HDMI in favour of TB3/USB4 ports are true, maybe "gimp it" was the internal messaging when they developed this, and they will indeed release such a machine.

I can play this game too. Look new laptops in their wwdc picture. Plus maybe airpods? Then also they will talk about xcode, messages, terminal, and calendar. Maybe throw in some fancy new hairstyles for memojis.

There’s a few Dave Chappelle jokes in there as well, but you aren’t allowed to make funny jokes anymore.

It won’t happen, WWDC is entirely software focused only

don’t forget he mentioned last year hardware like AirPods max being revealed for WWDC last year and yeah.. software event only Prosser
An “I was wrong.” would have more appropriate than “What I meant to say…” 😄

I must be weird, I actually quite like the touchbar on my Intel 16”. Use it loads, in particular, it’s a really handy volume control. I’d actually really miss that.
Yes. There were some missteps in gen 1, a little bit of iteration earlier would have made things better.

Prosser's approach: "I heard it from somebody. Can't tell you who they are. Can't tell you how they know."

Ming-chi Kuo's approach: "I figured this out by analyzing the supply chain."

I can tell you whose approach I would put more money on...
Sounds like modern journalism in a nutshell except there’s no Ming-chi Kuo’s out there.

These designs are too good to be true, so i'm worried. This is the certainly the right way to go, but it's a massive rebuke to Jon Ive's "The best feature is one that has been removed" design mantra. Doing this is admitting they (Ive) made a mistake (Suggesting the removal of MagSafe should have been a fireable offense.)

I wonder if the leaked schematics is for a Macbook Pro "Classic," to commemorate the classic unibody design from the legacy intel models, complete with magsafe, etc. But it's a one off. And then Apple will introduce a completely new redesign to celebrate the "complete" transition for the laptop lineup to Apple Silicon.

It doesn't matter if new Macbooks Pros are released in summer or later in year. But, it is good idea to release MACs between spring-summer before the new school year starts and WWDC.

It's why Apple quickly released the M1 Macbook Air and iMacs. Those will be quite popular with many consumers and students.

I like it too, but sometimes forget to watch it to see what it changes to do. Sometimes I would brush it while typing, and wake up Siri, or do some other surprise feature, but got used to lifting the (many) unused fingers higher.

I LIKE the Touchbar. I'll be sad to see it go. I think on this model, I can turn it off, which was a surprise. I didn't know it bothered people that much.

Ahh, so 'the next day'...

I swore at that TouchBar and hated it the first month or so. I thought it was there just to drive me mad. Funny how quickly I forgot my angst over 'that damn thing'.

One feature I liked was it would show possible words I meant to spell, and now doesn't. Some (most) of the functions on it I don't use, but when I do need them, they are usually right there. It'll be sad having to sift through the Sys Pref morass to find the setting jewels again in the future.

Especially if there are stocking issues. Get them out quickly, so people can order them and hopefully receive them by fall.

Filed for claim chowder.

You have typing issues on the 16”? I get those sometimes - the cursor will jump a couple of lines. I reported it to Apple but they seem to lose interest.

I also notice typing issues (like now, via my iPad) using the web, but that’s most likely due to the website speed itself.

It's one of the strangest things to see, and it's not all the time, but it will sometimes take a second to catch up.

I do a lot in FireFox, so have been wondering if the thing is hacked. Like right out of the box. I fired up Top, and Activity monitor to watch what's running, but it's hard to get a specific diagnosis with those tools. Like *everything* tends to bubble up to the top, and when I'm seeing lagging, and Activity Monitor is at the top I know it's just the moment, making running it pretty useless. It's almost as useless as the 'uncertainty principle' in action. I can see what's top, but it's usually not what's causing the problem at the moment. I would need something that better trends the processor load, without contributing to the load, and that's an impossibility. But still, it's rather annoying. A 'new' MPB, and it's slow? What???

No speed issues offline for me at all - my base model MBP 16” is still lightning fast, but typing on here, and other forums for example, I do notice a lag.

If it’s only occurring online, then it’s most likely a connection issue, or slow server speed/script on the website you’re posting on. Or could be an extension (ad blocker, maybe) running on your browser. You could try reinstalling Firefox and check the settings, or have a go with Safari.

👌

Oh, that's probably it. I installed a recommended 'privacy' extension that I've never used before, and I think that is blocking some web content that should work. Time to toss that thing, and see if it makes a difference.

'Privacy Possum' is the name...

Thought it would help for protection. Hmm... Over protective?

And who was responsible for the Touch Bar anybody knows ? (and what happened to him/her ? ;) )

As to the HDMI instead of fourth TB3/USB4 , stupid move for me
(but won't stop me to pre order a 14" !!)

How would you do HDMI 2.1 without using up a TB channel? HDMI 2.1 is 48 Gbps, and the TB channels are only 40Gbps - a dongle wouldn’t get you there.
