Surely the OLED strip merits more than a press release? Maybe they're having supply/manufacturing problems and have to push it into November when they get those straightened out.

In any case, I sure hope they obtained some much faster/more efficient chips from Intel. OLED strip or not, it's hard to see them selling many if they aren't significantly faster or get significantly longer battery life.

Apple still plans to announce its new MacBook Pro "in the month" with shipments to begin at the end of October, according to new information shared by Japanese site Mac Otakara.

Citing a "reliable Chinese supplier," the site says that Apple will launch both 13 and 15-inch models, continuing to offer the machine in the same sizes available today. Apple is also expected to launch a new 13-inch MacBook Air, but will not debut a new 11-inch MacBook Air machine.

Both the new MacBook Pro models, which will replace existing models, and the new 13-inch MacBook Air are said to include USB-C ports and Thunderbolt 3 support.

Previous rumors and part leaks have suggested the upcoming MacBook Pro will include four USB-C ports, doing away with an SD card slot, an HDMI port, USB-A ports, and a MagSafe connection.

It is also expected to feature a redesigned, thinner body with a flatter keyboard, an OLED display touch panel that replaces the physical function keys at the top of the keyboard, and Touch ID support.

Mac Otakara often shares accurate information sourced from the Asian supply chain, but the site does not have a flawless track record and has gotten some details wrong in the past. Other more reliable rumors have also pointed towards an October launch date, however.

With the month coming to an end in just two weeks, it is unclear if there will be an event to announce the new machines. There have been no hints of an event and no invites have been sent out, so it's possible Apple will debut the machines more quietly, with just a press release.

MagSafe is brilliant - don't ditch it. A few USB-C ports are nice- only USB-c is lazy crap.

And I will second that the super flat keyboards are an abomination. I was seriously thinking about a MacBook than I went and typed on one. Yuck. Foul.

So now the big difference will be home many USB-c ports you come with. MacBook 1, Air 2, Pro 4? Ahh innovation.

Apple - we used to make insanely great stuff like hardware, now we dabble in internet radio stations. Ughhh.......
Yes indeed, Apple created significant hardware and computing experiences when they were focused.

This time around, after years of hibernating like a bear, it's risky to have high expectations of Apple Inc. the Gadget Company.

That said, and based on recent experience, I'm truly looking forward to the upcoming release of Microsofts Surface Pro 5.

So much for a "Pro" level laptop. Losing MagSafe, HDMI, and SDCard slots. I don't care about thinness in a Pro laptop. I value functionality way over thinness and portability. My Macbook Pro 2010 is the perfect size and weight. If you want to remove the ports that a lot of people use ALL THE TIME, then do that crap with the Macbook or the Air, not the Macbook Pro. That damn headphone jack better be there too or I'm roadtripping down to Cupertino.
I planning on leaving my MacBook Pro 2010. Since everything is backup/accessible in iCloud, all I really need is an HDMI port (or at least a dongle having been used to my old Mini DisplayPort)
It wouldn't be a modern ultra-thin Mac, unless you also had to carry around a gross ton of adapters.

But at least it's ULTRA thin.
This baby right here won't need dongle

My wallet is ready for all of this.

Finally, getting rid of all the standard ports and replacing them with a bunch of usb-c ports that need adapters for all my devices.

Exactly. I understand USB-C is the future... be we've already got a ton of present devices.

Luckily with some devices... like external hard drives... you can just switch to a different cable. But it still might be an awkward transition.

Especially if you move between a laptop with USB-C and a desktop with USB-A. You'd have to carry two cables for one hard drive, for instance.

This month is fast coming to an end and no invites yet? I really hope to see updates this month but I strongly doubt it. November seems more likely, if at all this year. Not to mention any banners being spotted. This year for the Mac line is looking more and more like a dud.

We've heard it all before.

I'm ready to buy my first Mac laptop in years, and first pro portable in even more years.

I want thinness and lightness most of all.

I want speed next (but the current ones are fast enough).

And third, I want legacy ports gone. I plan to keep this thing a while, and delaying the transition doesn't help me. Combine the latest USB and Thubnderbolt in one port, along with DisplayPort and power! (And give me more than one of them, at least on the Pro.)
Tell us more Tim!

I feel like USB-C is great but I also feel like there just isn't anything available to plug into it without a dongle. I wouldn't mind them replacing some things with USB-C but at least keep HDMI and SD card

I bought the dongles and hardly ever use them. The future is wireless. Only Apple can force the issue.

just like they succeeded in getting support for Firewire? Mini Displayport? Thunderbolt? yeah they have a really great track record of supporting the most ubiquitous connections well ahead of their time. You know what they are famous for though? Wifi issues, lots and lots of wifi issues. The future isn't wireless for business because until wireless is as stable, secure and as fast as a wire, which will never happen because if you can make wireless faster your can make a wire even faster still. Security will always be better on a closed wired network, and stability of a wire is always better due to no interference issues

Except that USB-C has already been adopted by most phone makers and many PC makers like Dell and HP.

Time to upgrade my Mid 2010 macbook pro with a failing gpu.

I have the 15" 2010 one with faulty GPU. I didn't know about the repair program until after it had expired. Kinda BS that Apple did not send out emails to owners that suffered from it.

So just a small spec bump then?

Quiet updates are usually not that huge of a change so I'm assuming besides the new ports, a spec bump basically.

No different from 1998. USB-C is the future. And you can use any charger you want to. No more proprietary ports.
Except for the iPhone, iPad and iPod. Except for those, no proprietary ports.

What would be AWESOME is for Apple to drop the 3.5mm port on the Mac, and only supply USB-C, so the iOS devices and Macs can't share wired headphones, only bluetooth. That would be hilarious.

I wouldn't be surprised if there won't be an event. To fill an entire hour with a touch panel and a slightly thinner body is rather...difficult. And no rumors at all point towards anything else, that's in the pipeline.
They could also announce the AppleTV 5 and discount the TV4 (TV3 just got canned) and highlight the release of the Nike branded Apple Watch?
