Ok guys that are on the shipment sent out on the 24th that doesn't have tracking... I just called Apple and got a bit more info.

First the lady gave me the whole thing about the order arriving on the 4th or before... and tried to leave it at that, but after some time I was able to press her and get her to track to the MBP itself (Apple has the tracking info, for some reason they aren't sharing it with us), she said that my MBP was due to arrive at the UK distribution centre tomorrow, the 30th, and that by 5pm in the evening I should have a status update, then the order should go out on the 31st for delivery and will hopefully arrive then.

Hope that helps.

Nice work, who else is on the carrier pigeon that left Shanghai on the 28th?

Great work, thank you. That sounds more plausable than the nano holding the whole thing up.:D

moclippa do you have anything else ordered with the mbp? a nano or printer?

NP guys, just be straight with them but nice as its not the call centres fault. Just don't let them give you the runabout. I just told her I needed more concrete info because I needed to ask someone in advance to house sit for me to accept the package, and that my 'friend' had been able to track his progress from shanghai, ordered after me and got it first (and that I was utterly confused as to why I couldn't do the same)... which stopped her from using the line that all orders were in the same situation that everyone at Apple support has been giving me over the last few days.

Hopefully you guys that call in will be able to back things up and allow us all to be a bit more certain.

Apple Care :p That cost me one day of delivery, but it was an HE discount, so it'll be worth the extra day.

Wheres My MBP ? !

I ordered by MBP 2.53 7200 18 hours after keynote finished.

My order "shipped" on the 22nd.

I was originally told the 4th for delivery, then it updated to the 29th after it shipped.

The 29th is today, I still have NO TRACKING # !

I rang Apple CS and was told by an Irish lady that I would not get a tracking number untill 24hrs before delivery. She also said that her system was telling her I could expect delivery on the 31st !

This all seems so inconsistant. I was originally old to expect a tracking # shortly after the item shipped !

I ordered nothing else with it, (except apple care).

Where is my MBP ! ?

Nice work moclippa!!
I called apple just before your post and got the usual BS with them reading off the tracking website that I had in front of me , but your call cleared things up nicely.

Fingers crossed for the 31st... although today would have been nice...

This puts my order in doubt too. I spoke to Apple just now. I ordered at the same time as you - shipped on 24th Oct. I asked why I had not received a tracking number - I was told that it is waiting to be picked up by the final carrier (either UPS or TNT). I should receive a tracking number this evening and delivery by Friday 31st the latest.

Currently I am being told:

Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change)
30 Oct 2008 (Subject to change)

Current Delivery Status In Transit to Customer -
Shipment on Schedule 29 Oct 2008

I am a big Apple fan, but I have to say this is not a very good online service. I would have thought there would be more customer involvement when spending over £2,400.

Thanks to all of you guys for posting your status updates in this process! For the people who ordered multiple items and already received the tracking number, did you receive an email when the tracking number was posted?

Ordered on the 15th
Prepared for shipment on the 24th
Dispatched on the 25th
Just called Apple and they said it'll all merge in the UK and I'll get my tracking number on the 31st

Order consisting of:
"low" end MBP, baseline + Applecare
Printer
iPod nano

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the plant in Shanghai works 24 hours a day? Also, how many flights leave a day with shipments and what time does it leave? Are they any constants in the process?

I just don't understand how apple care can slow an order down. I didn't think that it was a physical product. I thought it was a service that they could email you the details of / you can sign up to online. Oh well, roll on Friday. Fingers, no everything crossed. lol

I too had the HE discount so an extra day delay is certainly something that I can cope with, it was such a big discount!!

Judging by the speed that Apple is shipping these things, I would say it is actually this one....

Applecare is a physical product. At least it was when I got my MacBook Pro. It came in an envelope with a small manual and a cd inside. I think we've now established that Apple uses different delivery companies to ship orders over from Shanghai if a MacBook is part of a multi-part order or not. If it is a multipart order then it seems to take 2-3 extra days to fly over from China than in single part orders and then usually takes a day to be merged and handed over to a UK courier. So all in all, its looking like ordering more than one product at once delays delivery by 3-4 days minimum. Nice.

You know, a carrier pigeon flies at 50 miles per hour. According to Google Earth, the as-the-bird-flies distance from Shanghai to my house is about 5700 miles. So it would take a carrier pigeon 114 hours to fly from Shanghai to here, or 4 and 3/4 of a day. Assuming it rested for 8 hours a day, it would take it 7 days and 3 hours to get here.

So, if Apple does only get our MacBook Pros here on Friday after they were shipped out on the 24th then I think we can safely assume that Apple *does* in fact use carrier pigeons to deliver multi-part MacBook Pro orders.

I'll be sure to put some seed out for my little delivery pigeon:

Ive been following closely on MacRumors since the anticipated iPhone 3G launch and have been following the launch of the new macs for some time now aswell.

I ordered a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro (see my signiture) on the 15th at 5.01pm GMT with an iPod nano and AppleCare, it was shipped on the 22nd, last night i was finally given some tracking info and it was assigned to TNT and delivered at 11am this morning (29th). Thats 2 weeks since the day of purchase with extras and it came the day after the trackig was posted, so I dont think the extras make too much of a difference.

Hope that helps, Im currentl enjoying my first Mac

that is sooo funny, thank you for clearing up my apple care question.

I did not realise that Apple Care was a physical product.....even if it is im not sure why this should hold up delivery......

I had HE discount, not sure why this should hold up by delivery by 1 day ? After all I have still parted with £1600 of my hard earned cash ! !

And what is the point in tracking a parcel for the final 24hrs of delivery when I ordered it over 2 weeks ago ! ?

See, this gives me confidence that mine should be here by Friday! I have an 808 number, which if I am correct, this means TNT will be my carrier.

Now, to be sure, I am with you on this. But it might be argued that as long as the order is not merged there is no singular entity to make reference to. And as long as this is the case the order did not ship out, in the full blown sense of that term, from apple yet. So providing us with the information that the MBP was shipped from Shanghai and that it is en route to be merged is actually a very good service ;)

I have an 808 number too but it doesn't work. It just gives me the details of an order from last June lol

'It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a 5.5 pound Macbook Pro.'

Unless of course, its an African Carrier Pigeon :D

Nice work, who else is on the carrier pigeon that left Shanghai on the 28th?

latitudehopper, I'm also on the 28th Shanghai shipment, but I've got a multiple item order (MBP 2.4ghz and ipod nano) so I don't have any tracking information. Anybody else out there who does and would like to post tracking info for the 28th shipment?

When I ordered I was advised 7-10 November for delivery although this has been revised now to 4 November - so if that works out I'd be pretty happy.
